Best praline shop in New Orleans with a wonderful aroma and free samples inside. The original praline and the rum ones are my favorites and very classic items. Pralines are freshly made and not too big, which is helpful for a very sweet dessert. Convenient location downturn walkable from main tourist attractions like Jackson Square & Aquarium. Always friendly service. They have a wide selection of sweets/candy, and the pralines are the standout.

Stumbled into this quaint shop as we were walking around. Nicely laid out, tastefully decorated. They had a "show and taste" counter. The regular praline was delicious, very buttery and melted in the mouth. The persons at the counter were very courteous and we decided to but some for ourselves. Great place.

Date of visit: December 22, 2024With so many different options for buying pralines in and around the French Quarter, Southern Candymakers sticks out for offering free praline samples while you wait. And trust me, you will wait here!I did appreciate the free sample but it wasn't enough to get me to bring some pralines home with me, instead I went with a Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, combining two of my favorite things into one treat! Unfortunately it was a bit of a mixed bag. While the flavors were good, the way it was made--with a thick layer of chocolate on top--that biting into it caused the peanut butter to come out, requiring deft actions not to let it fall on the floor or get all over your hand. Having to essentially eat all of the peanut butter and then eat the chocolate took away the blending of the flavors that make this such a tasty treat.

You can't swing a cat in New Orleans without hitting a praline or beignet shop. Everyone proclaims to have the best most original recipe. In my opinion, so far this place has the creamiest, most buttery praline. Each piece has a whole half of pecan or more in every piece, none of that chopped up nut foolishness. They use whole half pieces in every single praline!!This shop offers a variety of pralines as well as other confections. Throughout the years I've tried different things but the original praline is all I need! The shop smells so good, like sugar and butter! The employees are always nice, answering questions and offering samples. If you like pralines then you have to give them a try!!

TLDR: Yum, award-winning confectionery in New Orleans. Quick, friendly service. Free praline samples. Plenty of sweets to choose from!Tasty confection shop connecting Decatur and N Peters Street in New Orleans. The shop is easy to locate and walking distance from Bourbon street. I don't like being on Bourbon street, however, was in the area for a parade. Of course I was craving pralines and stopped in here for a quick treat. The praline shops typically hand out pieces of pralines as free samples if you want to try it first. I recommend trying a flavor or two first since you may be surprised at which one you prefer. I'm a fan of the traditional pecan praline flavor as well as the chocolate version. This shop offers different praline flavors as well as a variety of other sweet treats including peanut butter cups, clusters, chocolate covered oreos, and chocolate bark. Overall, great place to walk through to get out of the heat and satisfy a sugar craving!

Its a tiny narrow shop. I bought a few things from the cabinet. Milk chocolate coconut cups, made with white coconut, but not much. Rice Krispie cups, with a good amount of krispies. Chocolate pretzel and Milk chocolate orange peel. I wasn't impressed with the milk chocolate here, as it was very hard, with a weird flavor. It actually had a sweet raisin-like taste. Avoid this place!

I started my love of Southern Candymakers with their West Bank location, and almost a year later found this location. The selection is amazing!Don't be put off by the pricing - for quality product, handmade, it's worth it. Convenient location just on the edge of the Quarter, and hourly parking across the street. My favs, after working my way through quite a bit of their selections, are the lemon pralines, peanut butter pralines and sweet potato pralines. I do love the King Cake pralines during Mardi Gras season as well.Love the choice of chocolates - if it's made in dark, it's made in milk and white as well. I'm "Team White" when it comes to my chocolate, and that goes for the dipped cherries, the pecan clusters and the peanut butter cups. (Just Jif in the middle - YUM!)Will always be my go-to for that something from New Orleans gift for others.
