That's why you come here

A neighborhood corner meat market that secretly serves one of the tastiest (and cheapest) po boys in town. They have a nice offering of standbys at the deli counter, but I couldn't make it past the 12" shrimp po boy with a side of pork and beans for about $8. Nothing fancy, just massive deliciousness from a hole in the wall that you may never find if you ain't lookin for it.One note: it gets a little sketchy in off hours, so be aware.

Living near here for only a year or so, I wouldn't have ever believed people would eat any food from this place when I stumbled upon these reviews. As the last guy said, some of the people appear a little sketchy. But his impression that this is not a good neighborhood is incorrect. It's the Store that is the epicenter of any weirdness happening in the immediate vicinity. The store just appears to be a super overpriced, dirty, poorly stocked, front. At least they sell beer and ciggs. But they both cost more than Birdies, just a few blocks away.

The sign doesn't say Sopranos anymore...just S. As some people have said, the location is a little sketchy but there are some nice houses nearby with lovely beautiful people living in them. Night time would be scary, except on every visit last weekend (I was in town from BR and just kicked it in the hood for a few days) there were at least 4 guys (that I wouldn't mess with) "working" behind the counter. I'm willing to bet that they don't get robbed a lot. This is a classic bodega with all kinds of weird stuff and essentials. The Poboy. My local friends both swore up and down that it was the best catfish 'boy in town. I used to live in NOLA. I know what's up. Sorry guys, but they dropped the ball on this one. It was a big sandwich. Lots of catfish. The problems: 1) It took forever to make and B) SALT. This fish was so salty I couldn't even eat the sandwich. My friend's was the same. It was definitely an issue with the batter. Someone used a cup when they shoulda used a tablespoon. I was really disappointed. It looked delicious. The portions were splendid. Everyone in the store was nice and friendly. At least we got to watch the beginning of the Saint's game while we waited...

Soprano's Meat Market, conveniently located near Broad and Ursulines, is quite simply the gold standard of Midcity Epicurean markets. The philosophy of proprietors Ricky and Sharif is simple: "we got whatevuh sh*t you need." The loyalty of Soprano's customer base is unparalleled, with some even traversing Broad Street in the sweltering summer to browse its extravagant foodstuffs. Even non-shoppers are drawn by the fluorescent solicitation of Soprano's blazing emblem, and its stoop has become THE place where Broad Street's elite congregate to 'see and be seen.'After exchanging pleasantries on the stoop with Broad Street's "A-List", shoppers entering Soprano's magnificent vestibule are greeted with a feast for the senses. A veritable cache of gourmet staples, it's easy to get lost in Soprano's tempting aisles.Featuring New Orleans' finest collection of Discount Wines, Mad Dog 20/20, Limited Edition 4Loko, and a wide assortment of malted lagers, Soprano's is sure to quench your thirst. Beverages aside, Soprano's shelves are crowned with a mélange of comestibles nestled against cleaning products. Its legendary selection of cracklin' alone takes up a full aisle. A wide array of Bath Salts are kept behind the counter for the truly discerning customer. Of course, no feast of cracklin' and Thunderbird is complete without a denouement of satisfying smoke. Behind the counter, the selective shopper can find a seemingly endless array of menthol cigarettes, sold by the pack or individually. If rolled tobacco leaves are your election, rest assured that each cigar at Soprano's is genuinely rolled by machine, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Children delight at the choice in "cigarillos", with savory flavors like chocolate, honey, strawberry, coconut, and sour apple.Since it's opening in the mid-1990s, Soprano's has become a staple of MId City's Syrian-owned market scene. Competitors come and go, but Soprano's timeless formula for success ensures their endurance.

Extremely good po boys. (I was tempted to give this place a 5, but lets just say 4.5)It's in a slightly shady location, and I don't know if I'd want to be hanging out outside the place at night, but that said some of the best boys I've had in the city were at Soprano's.

The food here is awesome. When you're in New Orleans you have to go here. The prices are great and the people who work there are very friendly. I had an oyster po boy and my girlfriend had the red beans with fried chicken are cornbread. Unbelievable. I can't wait to visit New Orleans again.
