I agree with Alex H- bring reading material because even if you are ONLY there to gain something as simple as an access code so that you can create an online account, you will be there over two hours. At least once my name was called, I was in and out but to get to that step took over two hours. The workers were polite enough but there has to be a better way to assist people in less time. Only about five or so workers so that's probably why the long wait exists too. The building is under construction. There are about 20 parking spaces out front.I parked two blocks up the road near the beach volleyball place. The guy who sat next to me was there before it opened standing in line then went inside when doors opened at 9 AM. I arrived around 9:20 and left close to noon. Your number is called, you check in to state what you are there for and THEN sit down again waiting for your name to be called. Plan accordingly!Don't forget to silence your mobile devices (you'll be reminded every twenty minutes if you do). Happy waiting

The office in Lacombe is better.- Less waiting time (average for me is 25 mins).- Less people.- Friendlier staff.- Staff doesn't work at snail-pace.- More private (privacy), quiet, and cleaner.- Bigger waiting area with plenty of chairs.- Bigger parking lot with plenty parking spaces. All things the Kenner location IS NOT.

As I sit here, entering hour #2, I decide to see if this place has any Yelp reviews. I was pretty sure they would not be positive. To my surprise, no previous reviews. I'll make up for that now.I take part of the blame for this waste of time. I could have mailed in my name change application. Instead, I decided to do it in person. If you have the option to avoid this place, DO IT.I'm too far in right now to leave. Sadly.First, half the letters are missing from the sign for the building. Don't drive past it like I did. It's the ugly building next to the OTB Casino. There is only one direction entering the parking lot. Drive past and you will have to do a U-Turn and go back. It won't matter, though, because there will be around 40-50 people inside and only 10ish parking spaces. They will be full. You will then notice the back parking lot and think "oh, good, overflow parking" and make another U-Turn to find the unnecessary two-lane One Way street to get to the back. The first entrance to the lot is the casino. Don't park there. Keep going. You will be happy you found it, complete with empty parking spaces, only to be greeted by an "Employees Only" parking sign. Keep in mind, many more spaces than the front. This is when I decided, oh well, park anyway.Walk inside, find a very thorough touchscreen system to check in. They ask questions about why you are here. Very specific. It even takes your SSN. Presumably this is to collect some info and speed up the process. Please don't be fooled.. It doesn't.It does spit out a number. Of course, there are signs up telling people that the numbers aren't called in order. This is probably to keep people from getting discouraged when they realize their number is 25+ digits away. Go ahead and get discouraged. It's pretty much in order. The fun part is people watching, but even that gets old after a while. Eventually you will get close to your number being called. It's like winning the lottery. Except.... Not. Remember all of the info you already gave the kiosk? Not necessary. When they call your number, you happily prance over to the desk thinking you are almost done. The employee then asks your name and reason for visit (same as the kiosk...). Next? You go sit. And wait. They call your name when they want to. No more numbers, no more idea of how many are ahead of you. You just wait, and wait, and wait. One star is generous. One star is mandatory. One star is wishful thinking that I might eventually get to change my name, instead of just sitting and waiting...(I'm still waiting and managed to type this on my phone)

Deliberately undersized parking lot. Randomized ticket numbers so you can't predict the wait. I'm not expecting a buffet and lounge when I visit a government office, but a few simple acts of foresight in design and service would go a long way. Bring a book, even if you arrive early, and be prepared to park on a side street.

Got there 20 minutes before it opened like all people should do at Government Facilities example the DMV. The doors opened and we were politely greeted by a kind security guard, He gave us instructions and I was in and out in 15 or less minutes. I thought the Lady that helped me was kind, polite and very professional. You see all the bad reviews are probably the lazy people that can't get up early and get there early. They probably go 3 hours or more after it's been opened and expect to get quick service and when they don't they give bad reviews. The Bad reviews should be written about them..........The End.

Got a letter to come in for an appointment. As a Deaf person they should already know I'm Deaf hence the reason I was called in. This place is NOT Deaf friendly. No lights when the numbers are called. And of course per usual everyday of my life no one signs ASL. Figured it's labeled in my file that I'm Deaf they would have an interpreter available. I refuse to come back because of their neglect. Again no access for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community at all at a government building. All the technology that's available at this moment and we're still left in the dark. Pisses me off so much. Oh and moving your mouth bigger to enunciate your speech doesn't do jack shit. Time to learn equal access and communication!!I recruited the tall black male security guy. Very nice and looked out for me when my name was called!

Just went to the Soc Sec office in Kenner, LA. Very pleasant experience. I was called initially within 20 minutes. I had 4 things to try to deal with. The person I saw took care of 2 of them immediately, but I needed to see someone else for the other 2. In a little while, I was called into the back office. The person helping me next was very nice, polite, knowledgeable and efficient. He took care of my third need quickly, and was a pleasure to talk with. My fourth issue, a problem with "my account," is something I only can try to address via phone.I had needed one of the first 2 things for at least 2 years, but could not bring myself to go back to another local office due to horrendous experiences there. This was a pleasure. Quiet, efficient and friendly. Everyone there seemed relaxed and happy: both clients and workers.I was in and out in about one hour, and didn't even have time to catch up on today's emails!

I thought to go out to this office as parking was easy , And believing that I would rather talk to someone face to face. I went to the kiosk to check in , obtained a number and waited to be called. The wait was not long and I was directed to a cubical and spoke to a lady behind bulletproof plexiglass! Told her was I was there, she looked up my social, answered a few questions abruptly and set up a time and date to be called later. Hopefully, on the next, upcoming call the person is warm and patient!

I tried to sign up for medicare online. The website says, "it only takes 10 minutes". What a laugh (or cry). The online application takes at least 30 minutes, and when you are almost finished, it tells you that not only can you not complete the application online, but your attempt is frozen due to fraud prevention...Soooo, I called to speak to someone. The usual recording with 10-15 reasons why you have to call another number, and then you find out that you have to call Equifax to verify your identity (birth certificate, passport, drivers license, in hand...not good enough).THEN they tell me I need my social security card, which I haven't see in 40 years. "you'll have to apply for a new one"...Soooo, I decide that I'm just going to go the the SS office and get one, and I see all of these horror stories on yelp...I dread going to this office.I pay 36% of my income to the IRS, and this is the kind of service we get? This is our government in "action". And I thought being in the Army was the most horrendous repetitive paper chase ever...wrong.Good luck.
