To call Roaring 20s merely a "dive bar" would be a disservice. No, we're talking *dive lounge* and I mean this as the highest compliment. Normally, I avoid day drinking. I think it's because I just love night drinking so much. Well, I can get past that because Roaring 20s makes you feel like it's always nighttime! The cave-like interior is dark with dim red lighting. It feels like you're entering someone's basement rec room in the mid 70s, old couch in a corner, vinyl bar stools, wood paneling and low ceilings and all. Think of Ted Knight's daughters' ultra cool basement pad in Too Close For Comfort, only realllly fucking dark. Visits from Monroe not included. I dare you to *not* stay and hang out, even if the sun is shining brightly outside (stay a couple hours and maybe it'll be dark by the time you leave). So, you ring the bell, the bartender buzzes you in, and you walk past a small group of friendly older gents sitting at the bar. A quick perusal and no skinny jeans-wearing hipster in sight. So, no, not a dive bar at all as we know 'em today. Thankfully. As a gal, sometimes you might feel odd walking into a place where you the only one. You might even worry for a second if you've just entered a men's-only club. But! "Unescorted ladies" are not only welcomed at Roaring 20s, they get their second drink for free (that's what the little paper cup that the bartender puts in front of you means)! And don't even think for a second you'll be fending off undesirable come ons from the regulars. It's very much be and let be here. In a world full of contrived dive bars, Roaring 20s stands out as a comfortable place for "unescorted ladies," is cheap, allows smoking (the air purifier does a decent job), has a friendly clientele and feels like the elusive "real deal."

Roaring 20's is a great example of a West Bank dive bar.I have been wanting to try Roaring 20's for years. I was never brave enough to venture in, but recently read a review (thanks Joi) that renewed my interest. Since it was fresh on my mind, and my friend had never been there either, we made the long trek to Terrytown. We pulled in around 5 a.m. on a Saturday night and the place looked packed. We walked to the door and pushed the buzzer. The buzzer adds an exclusive feel and makes you feel like you're being judged before you enter. When they didn't immediately open the door, I became self conscious that I wasn't cool enough or properly attired. Lucky for us, the bartender had stepped away from the buzzer and a friendly patron opened the door. When we walked to the bar the bartender shook our hands and introduced herself as Sandy. Sandy told us that she knew as soon as we walked in that we had never been there before. She was very friendly and welcoming. She explained that we should make ourselves at home and have fun. She must have assumed we were fancy people because when I ordered water, she explained that they only had tap water and hoped that was ok. I told her that we had read about the bar on the internet, but she just laughed as if it was impossible. The bar had a small dance floor, jukebox and two couches. What made this bar even better was the woman taking a nap on one of the couches. This was a great experience and was everything I imagined it would be. It is too bad that it took a yelp review for me to build up the nerve to go.If you want a laid back dive bar, I recommend you give Roaring 20's a try.

Y'know when I've gone to this strip mall before, I've only had eyes for Hi Do bakery, so I never even noticed the bar down the way.If it hadn't been for Joi & John and the Party Bus Wank tour, I would never have stopped here. But y'know it was a pretty cool place. The regulars were funny and tolerant of our nonsense. The bartender makes a good drink and was very nice.Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area and looking for a homey (if your home is somewhere in the timewarp 70s) experience.

Ever since some fellow yelpers took a westbank field trip and reviewed this place, I been coming here alot and I am a true fan! It is everything the other guys and gals have said and a tad bit more.I remember this place from way back when I was a little fat kid eating next door at the long closed Pizza King. While playing Jungle Hunt and waiting for pizza, my Dad would tell us not to go anywhere and he would step into the Roaring 20's for a quick sip. I always wondered what was behind the black glass door with the buzzer......fast forward to now. A 40 something still fat, I found out and I love it!Ok, dive bar...yes. But with class. Meaning it doesnt get too stinky or smoky in here. Majority red lights , check. There is a very entertaining karaoke night on Fridays. The regulars are of the older set, but they are well versed in new music to sing to. Gotta see it. All the bartenders I have met over the visits are extremely friendly. Make you feel warm and welcome. They even break the ice for you with the regulars. There is usually some finger sandwiches or meatballs and lil smokies to grab a snack on. They like it too if you come in with some food for all. Like that a lot! ;)I haven't been able to figure out the hours, I'm not sure if its 24 or not. I think if its a slow slow night they shut down, but will never kick you out.I feel very privileged (and like i snuck in) when they buzz me in. Always look forward to who is inside and what's going on. If there was a pizza place still next door, I would repeat the process with my daughters and go in for a quick sip

This was an interesting spot that I visited for the first time on a Yelp pub crawl on a party bus. I had driven by this place many times on fishing trips but hadn't really even noticed it was a bar. I was impressed with the fact that I had to get buzzed in and that made me feel all happy as all the other bars I've ever had to get buzzed in are pretty cool places. The bartenderess was very friendly and tolerant of our group (as most of us stumbled in with our outside drinks still in hand). Most of what I remember in here was a frightening haze of red light that was much more intense than the red light in Snake 'n Jake's and when I was a child I used to have a nightmare about being trapped in a room with this same haze of red light. I have finally discovered that my nightmares as a child were all about the Roaring 20's in that their beer selection doesn't have any local Louisiana beers or special beers at all beyond Bud, Miller, and Coors products... nooooo I need my Abita Amber!!! Other than the limited beer selection and crazy red light this seems like a decent spot to experience on the West Bank.

I went to the this club tonight. I saw several people sitting at the bar. I rung the bell several times. No one answered eventhough I could hear the bell ringing. I even had my friend to ring the bell and no one answered for her. This was my first time going and I will not go back. They don't deserve my money. I even called the club to ask whether they were open or not. The person replied we are already closed. I asked several times what time did they closed. She never answered that question. She told me there was a bad issue there tonight....whatever that means.

The Roaring 20's in the Westbank! Used to be a fan when the original owner ran it . Was a bar for locals on the Westbank for many years... I've known several of the staff there and all followed the sentiment at the time. The culture of America has changed as we can no longer offend anyone! Roaring 20's has adapted to that change with arms wide open... hence I believe it is no longer the local watering hole I knew, but a future site of a ....!
