Rice and Roux

This was my second time at rice and roux. First time I went, I tried the pastalaya, jambalaya, and boudin. I didn't care much for the jambalaya. Personally, feel like I've had better w/ zataran's jambalaya mix. I wouldn't get it again. Pastalaya was pretty good though! Not amazing or anything, but it was good, and I haven't had many variations of pastalaya to compare it to, so I was satisfied w it. I would order that again. Boudin was good. I'm not a big boudin person, so again, I don't have much to compare it to, but I thought it was good. I think I remember it being sufficiently spicy. Love that they have a drive thru. I got the gumbo this time bc I was craving gumbo but not feeling well didn't feel like cooking or going inside a restaurant to pick up. I thought it was pretty good for a drive thru. Decent amount of meat, and was a good portion for the price, and pretty tasty! Would come back if I were in a similar situation and craving gumbo (which does tend to happen often, so will most likely be back in the next couple months).Every time I've been here the workers are always super friendly and have always gotten my order right. So, good service, I'd say!

Omg the fried fish is delicious and the portions are of decent size. Each side I've tried so far is good. My all time favorite is that outstanding banana pudding. I'm diabetic, so I have to be careful with portion control lol.

While staying in Baton Rouge, my husband and I had decided that we wanted to get some gumbo. Through my Yelp app, it lead us here, Rice and Roux. We drove over here and decided to go through the drive thru (which is very convenient). So on a Monday night, around 7:40 pm, we were the only people in the drive thru line and ended up ordering:Quart (32 oz) of Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, $13.99 prior to tax- A side of rice was included with our order. This is a pretty large serving and made for a few meals for us. On the night we had this, I thought the gumbo was good. But over the next few days, I thought it was even better, as the flavors had a chance to mingle and stew for a bit. I really liked that there was plenty of chicken throughout this gumbo. There was sausage as well but definitely more chicken (which was fine with me). ----------------------------------------(Total= $15.38 after)Service was friendly and wait time for our food wasn't too long. We were also given plastic utensils and some napkins with our order. If I lived in the area, I would mostly come back to try other items on their menu and also take advantage of the daily specials.

My recent visit Rice & Roux left me disheartened. The red beans and rice were served lukewarm, almost C-C-COLD. That may be fine for all the people picking up orders to go because how would they know that it didn't just cool off on the way but for those dining inside, it doesn't make for a very good meal. ALSO, the dish lacked sausage altogether, a vital component that adds richness and depth. My other experiences before we're much better. Could be a fluke but for now, I cannot recommend this place for a red beans and rice experience. HEAT IT UP!

Ok, it's fast food but executed very well! The staff was so friendly and let us sample a few things prior to making our order. They explained the items to us and made our experience fantastic! The food was on par with the cost, and we left, full and happy !

Ordered pastalya, incredibly bland very little flavor. The wife said the seafood gumbo was sub-par and we didn't even get part of our order. We genuinely just didn't finish our food and won't be back.

Making a gumbo is a labor of love but also, kind of a pain in the ass. It's delicious when you're done, but it's chopping, stirring, skimming, for 8 hours before you get to the end result. So much time! Next time, go to Rice and Roux and get a quart of it and CALL IT A DAY. Their prices are great, the gumbo AND potato salad is delicious AND THEY HAVE A DRIVE THRU. They couldn't make it any easier. Our go to is a quart and a half of the seafood gumbo with a medium potato salad. The seafood gumbo is the perfect consistency with a good mix of shrimp and crabmeat, Enough for 3 generous servings. Perfect for our phantom cold days in Louisiana!Go check them out ASAP y'all!

Not a great experience!! The place was completelyb at 6pm empty which should of been a sign something was wrong. You place your order at the counter before seating yourself. The man taking our order seemed very annoyed that we were there. Not sure why .. I mean if no one comes in eventually the restaurant will close and he will not have a job, but anyway I placed my order. I decided on the small white bean dinner for 6.99 and added a link of sausage for a dollar. The dinner came with one side,I chose a green salad. Our food was delivered to the table about 5 minutes later. Instead of the green salad I had ordered they brought what I think was potato salad. No big deal, I let the waiter know and he quickly switched it out. I probably should of kept the potato salad. Lol. The salad was only iceberg lettuce and the ranch was served in what looked like ketchup packets. I didn't even try it. The beans would of been pretty good if they weren't cold. It wasn't a very good meal at all. Maybe they were just having a bad day but I won't be back.

Don't waste your time and money! Went on a Sunday evening and they were out of everything. Finally, after ordering one of the few things they had, gumbo, they served it but the restaurant was out of spoons. The staff seemed very disorganized and untrained by not knowing what they didn't have in stock and even what was on the menu. The only saving Grace was their potato salad which was quite good

The food is delicious. I've been wanting to try this restaurant and finally did yesterday. We tried a little of everything since I had company to feed. The lasagna lunch special was so good and exactly what I hoped it would be. Amazing jambalaya with the most tender meat (the pork jambalaya was my favorite). Both gumbos are really good, but I prefer the seafood. The sides were good, white beans were my favorite. Love the drive-thru at the Lee location and will be back soon, likely this week. The only suggestion I have is that they don't pile up too much in one togo bag. My lasagna lunch got smushed by a heavy bag placed on top of it, but it still tasted great even though some got spilled.
