Rhino Contemporary Crafts

Don't let the word craft in their name fool you. Rhino is an artist consortium retail shop. You can find jewelry, pottery, furniture, sculpture, paintings, hats and scarves here. The artist members do change and the stock at the two stores can be very different, so check them both out!This is the one in Canal Place shopping mall. It's on the 3rd floor.

Rhino is a neat shop that sells local handmade art and jewelry.My favorite is Sabine Chadborn who sells various silver jewelry pieces. My favorite are the colored glass cameos that she sells.Prices range from inexpensive to pricey for the one of a kind pieces.

What an awesome store to walk around in! I was captivated by the pieces of handmade art made by local artists, and the prices range from $25 to the hundreds. The pieces are really cool, colorful, and inspiring. The two people working in the store are two of the artists whose pieces are featured, and their work was actually my favorite! I wish I could order things from their website to ship to NY. Anyone walking around on Canal or in the vicinity of the mall should visit and support their local artists.

I happened to be in Canal Place waiting for Mignon Faget to open when I stumbled across this store (opens EARLY on a Sunday!!). I really love supporting local artists and this store has a plethora of goodies from them!One of the artists happened to be there and we started talking about her jewelry and silver art clay. She was refreshingly open and friendly! I bought a gorgeous necklace, had a great time browsing all of the other artists (see if you can find the one who makes t-shirt quilts- they are unlike anything else I've seen! Stunning!) and will definitely be back to check it out again when I am in the area. I know Mignon Faget is also a local artist and I enjoyed looking at all of her fabulous stuff, but I definitely think the quality of the jewelry in Rhino is just as superb. Support your local artists and go check this out!

Artisan Peg Martinez....wood artist extraordinaire!! I really enjoyed the conversation and the history about the co-op. This is a great shop to see 20+ artists work in one shop. Support the local arts and stop buy for handmade, excellent craftsmanship with something for anyone. Take your time and enjoy some beautiful items. Wonderful experience while visiting from out of town.
