This has been my go to grocery store since I started working late nights in Gonzalez. It's the perfect place to stop on my way home. It's well organized and designed like you'd expect a medium sized grocery store to be. Set up in a way where you almost have to go right upon entry. It's always clean, shelves are well stocked and everything is where it's supposed to be. Ralph's Market feels like a neighborhood grocery store. The cashiers and stockers are very friendly and personal. Maybe I go there too much but I find myself having personal conversations with some of them about their personal lives and other things going on in their world AND I'm not even from the area. Sure go here if you're in the area. I'd almost always prefer to support a store like this which is independently owned instead of one of the larger chain grocery stores where you don't get the personal touch. The deli also serves lunch and breakfast with several options on each. I've had the breakfast with no complaints and even a slice of pizza one day. Also, two of the ladies I work with go there to get salads on a regular basis for lunch. But there's also more hardier options available.

I'm not a resident of Gonzales, but if you find yourself there, this the neighborhood market. Locally owned, so gotta love that. It's one of two, but I forget where the other one is located. Similar to an Associated Food Store group, but don't think that it is. This store would be my go to if you had a house visit/party in Pelican Point, this place will make you the ideal guest. Flowers, deli platters, bakery...have usual offerings for an "aw, you shouldn't have" response. I'm sure they have alcohol, but I didn't check it out. I stopped in with a colleague to pick up king cakes for some client visits.

A small neighborhood market that has been trying to grow but has had some growing pains in the process. The prices are higher than the bigger chains, but the deli and bakery are pretty good and usually worth it. They are renowned for their kingcakes and smoked lunch meats, but you have to watch the prices because they differ day to day. I've seen the same deli meats (smoked chickens, pork chops, ribs, etc.) with extremely different prices. Same goes on with the bakery. I don't think they pay attention when they're pricing things, but when there is a mistake, which is often, it's almost always in favor of store which begs the question is it a mistake or an attempt to gouge the customer. The deli & bakery personnel seem well trained and friendly otherwise, not so with the check out girls. Usually new and untrained, they don't seem to have a clue. Deli soups often get rang up by weight instead of by size like they're supposed to, and you have to catch it or you overpay. If an item rings up wrong, they will go look up the sale price, but then don't seem to have the math skill to figure it out. The store also sells gas, usually cheaper than the Exxon across the street, but you better pay with a card outside. Only one checkout counter can ring up gas, and it also happens to be the counter where they sell alcohol and cigarettes, so there is always a line if you want to pay cash, hardly worth the savings. I consider it as a large convenience store instead of a supermarket, which makes the mistakes more palatable.

I love shopping at Ralphs. There is a great salad bar with a variety of vegetables, meats, and prepared salads such as chicken, pasta, seafood, etc. There is always a full food and pizza bar also. There wrapped sandwiches are delicious. I love the size of the store (small) as getting in and out of a smaller store saves me time. Additionally, the meats are great and the butchers are also ready to assist with specialty cuts and advice. Ralphs is my primary store for shopping!!!
