While in Baton Rouge for work I had a real craving for some authentic Cajun food- and that's exactly what I found at Poor Boy Lloyd's. The folks working here are some of the most hospitable people I've met. I ordered the red beans and rice lunch special and it came out HOT and fast. It was delicious! Ill admit it isn't much to look at- if you're looking for a fancy sit down meal this isn't it. The restaurant is pretty worn in. But if you want good food, nice people, and a cozy down-home vibe, this is it. My only con is my fries didn't have any seasoning, but they were crispy and hot.

I had to try this Baton Rouge institution while passing through. You definitely feel as if you're getting the true Louisiana experience. The shrimp po' boy was incredible and the side of red beans and rice topped it off brilliantly. Super friendly staff made me feel like a local and the prices are competitive. Do plan on getting there early because that lunch rush won't be far behind you!

Expensive and dirty inside. Food was ok- slow to get food out. I'd skip. I had the oyster Poboy and it was a ton of bread and in my opinion not enough oyster. The oysters also tasted too fishy.

I've searched for the best southern gumbo, etc, while in BR, for days- today I land here for lunch and was beyond impressed!!! I'll be back tomorrow for their étouffée! Their gumbo, red beans and rice, and fried okra was phenomenal! I've not finished a full meal in almost a year but I did today! Then I had a lovely conversation with the owner as I checked out. The service was amazing, and I paid a whopping 13.56 Pre tip! The only sad thing is they close at 3:30 PM. Aside from Fridays. You all need to have lunch here!

Stopped by when we were already downtown. Seated quickly but I'll say service was relatively slow throughout (taking order, getting food, etc) but very friendly. Shrimp po boys were large but a little bland in my opinion. Red beans and rice came with "toast" which ended up being not toasted white sliced bread. Overall ended up being a bit pricy for what we got.

Stopped in for lunch while staying at the Hilton. What a great place. Seems to be family run. The food and service was excellent. Come hungry because the Poor Boy sandwiches are stacked with meat.

Stopped in here on a whim when we were visiting from out of town. My dad has fond memories of eating Po Boy sandwiches as a kid in Louisiana and wanted me to try one. We shared the shrimp Po Boy sandwich and it was very good! The food came out really quickly and was hot and well seasoned. All the people who were working here were super friendly and we felt right at home. The atmosphere had a relaxed comfortable feel. Would definitely come back. Highly recommend!

Was looking forward to a classic breakfast with good biscuits - was disappointed to be served a practically inedible biscuit that had been microwaved into oblivion. Never got the coffee I ordered...

The bread was stale ,and the lettuce was brown. Although the menu said that a sandwiches come with either fries or chips, that isn't true , it is sold separately. The old man is obviously thinks it's still 1967 & doesn't show the same respect to all his customers, especially black customers. From slamming the peppermint on the table instead of simply giving it to me.. to something simple as saying my total but just snatched my card to pay. Everyone I talked to about this told me , especially the ones who look like me says that's the normal ambiance & I don't not plan on going there ever again. That was so disgusting, it's 2024 ..
