Origen Venezuelan Bistro

Amazing food. The service was next level. When we were ordering at 5:55, our server ran to make sure we got the happy hour menu, which ended at 6. 50% off the appetizers which were so delicious. The ambiance and the decor were really something else too. Very accommodating and 11/10 recommend to locals and visitors.

What a beautiful place I just happened to be walking by on my visit to New Orleans. I popped in here & loved every minute! Carlos, my server , was just fabulous! He was friendly, welcoming & provided great service! I had the seafood chowder ( with coconut milk) & it was delicious!! Enjoyed a beautiful glass of Tempernillo as well!I absolutely recommend this place & I will be back!!

Origen is a hot new opening in the Bywater. My husband and I take an annual trip to New Orleans and typically like to stay in the Bywater. We were excited to see this new addition to the already great food scene. We came for brunch and made reservations for a Sunday right at opening. Given all the press for Origen we figured it would be busy but we were the only people in the restaurant the entire time. I feel like some of this was due to the Saints game timing. We had prompt and courteous service. Unfortunately there were a couple items I'd really wanted to try that were out of stock at that time. The food I ordered (an arepa and side) was underwhelming - but my husband got plantains and black beans that were both fantastic. Overall a mixed bag. Given how good other food in the area is I wouldn't prioritize a return visit, but I feel like maybe we didn't pick the right meal to experience everything that Origen does best.

Charming little restaurant serving delicious authentic Venezuelan food. Went for Coolinary special, $50. Started with mock tail or rum punch. Nice touch. First course was ceviche featuring seven different seafood items in a cold tomato broth. Fantastic! So flavorful. I chose vegetarian plate which was beautifully presented. Squash, carrots, sweet potato fritter, all roasted and served with sliced avocado. Delicious. Husband ordered steak and chorizo sausage. Rich!I only gave 4 stars because I didn't care for the flan. I love flan! This was very firm and had no caramel sauce on it. It was more like a cheesecake. The staff was friendly and efficient. Checked on us often. One error was serving the dessert before the entree dishes were cleared. Made for a messy presentation. Highly recommend! A unique culinary experience for New Orleans.

I had been meaning to try this place for a while now and finally made my way in on my birthday. It did not disappoint. I had been craving arepas so I ordered the arepas fritas appetizer. It's 3 arepas - one topped with shredded meat, one with chicken & avocado, and one with white cheese. The shredded meat was definitely the best in my opinion followed by the cheese. The chicken one was good but the chicken was a bit too dry (that's why I'm a boneless skinless thigh gal over breast lol). The sauce that came with it helped with that and was delish. I want to say it was a tomatillo salsa but I'm not sure. I also tasted the meat empanada, which was delicious, and the chicken empanada, which was also dry. For my entree, I got the pescado rojo, which is seared red fish with brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. I would order that again and again! It was SO good. The fish was perfectly seared and the sauce was so flavorful. The brussels sprouts were cooked well and were also tasty. The mashed potatoes were great. They were smooth and silky and yummy. I definitely fell like they put those through the ricer twice or something lol. They were smooth like the criminal Michael Jackson sang about. The service was fantastic. I got parking right out front (street parking only). My cocktail was their twist on a mojito (I forgot the name). It was great. I would like to come back and explore more of the cocktail menu for sure. I'd also like to try brunch because the brunch menu looked good.

The food is wonderful! Highly suggest a mix of the small plates such as the tostones, arepas, and my personal favorite the arepas de chicharrón. I had the Pork Cachapa that was delicious but next time I will ask for less cream so nothing distracts from the wonderful flavor of the sweet corn. The yuca fries are also 100!

Origen is exactly what I was hoping for when searching for South American cuisine in New Orleans. They have a substantial menu which includes brunch all day. The food was flavorfully complex, plentiful, and filling. Also, their hot sauce is a great compliment if you'd like some additional heat. You can't go wrong with the arepas, cachapas, or tuna caribe. The restraunt is nestled in the Bywater in a converted home which gives an elevated, cozy eclectic feel blending both old and new elements. The restaurant has a quaint back patio where you can also dine or have drinks. The staff were incredibly kind and happy to make recommendations and accommodations. The owner of the restaurant may even be present during your meal which gives a hint of his investment in his restaurant.

Visiting from out of town and can't recommend this place enough! The service was very friendly and our server provided us with great recommendations. He went above and beyond to let us know we had 5 minutes left for 50% off apps for happy hour!!! We ordered 2 apps, drinks and entrees and everything was incredible. Would absolutely eat here often if living in the area!!

My initial review was two stars, when the restaurant was not open during it's stated hours.Julio from the restaurant messaged me, with a kind and reasonable explanation that I found reasonable and have updated my rating +2 stars. Not every experience and visit are perfect, things happen, and we call all be understanding and kind in dealing with these problems.

Amazing food & excellent waiter!!! Highly recommend for fresh & authentic food! And the drinks are on point!
