YUM. Really lovely staff -- warm and friendly as I've come to appreciate in NOLA. The food was fantastic and there were great options for kids (not formally listed on the menu, but they could do pasta, tenders, and burgers) and of course the adults. The vibe was chill, low-key, and pleasant. Absolutely would come back!

My evening flight arrived on schedule in NOLA but by the time I got to my boutique hotel (see my post for that later) in the French Quarter, it was difficult to get a dinner reservation. It was 7:30 pm and many of the restaurants close by 9 or 10 pm. When I called Mr Ed's, they said I needed no reservation and I could just walk in. When I got there, one is immediately immersed into an atmosphere of creole hospitality. The dining space was small, dimly lit (difficult to read the menu), not full, but playing wonderful old time hits of superb soul and blues music.I wanted it all, so I ordered the Creole Combo. It consisted of 3 of the New Orleans classics: Shrimp Creole, Crawfish Étouffée and Gumbo. When it came to my table, there was little to no shrimp in the creole, hardly if any crawfish in the Étouffée and the Gumbo was a ball of ground something. I was shockingly disappointed and when the server asked me how it was, I was honest, polite and to the point. She took it away and asked me to order something else. So I went for the Crawfish Rockefeller. Something unique I thought. When this dish showed up, the oysters played the same tune. While they were succulent, fresh, well blended with bacon bits and tasty, there was not much crawfish to be seen. I did not say much after this. With all these drawbacks, I must say that the service was excellent. By that time, they were getting ready to close for the night (9 pm) and it was time for me to leave, get on the crawl and find another watering hole for the evening.

**Tourist Review I was told by multiple people to try this restaurant. I ordered the chargrilled oysters and the seafood gumbo. Oysters were amazing but i do wish the butter was melted a little more. It looked like half of them were getting overcooked and the other half was undercooked so they pulled them out. The gumbo was really tasty but the crab flavor was really prominent. If you're not a fan of crab, i would not recommend. All in all, i would come back!

The appetizers here are amazing! These charbroiled oysters were so tasty and may be on my top list of places to eat them. We also got the crawfish spinach dip which was fantastic!! The only reason I am giving this restaurant a 3 is because I was served raw chicken in my salad. The waiter was extremely nice and took it off the bill but disappointed nevertheless.

The plan was to eat somewhere else. But that plan fell through when Big Bro learned many Yelpers weren't to thrilled about that place. So after a quick search, he decided this place might be better. (And we were only a few blocks away.) So after a teenee bit of a walk, here we were! Party of four. We kinda had been snacking all day, but we didn't want to let the day pass without having oysters. (Side note: Big Bro and Mom said their goal is to have oysters everyday we were in NOLA.) We were seated and given menus immediately although it was poppin' - pretty good for a midweek dine in. ICED RAW OYSTERS: Shucked fresh, with very minimal leftover shells (they were there, but not a lot.) I liked that there was broth on some of them which made the experience better. We all liked it! CHARBROILED OYSTERS: Warning: give it a minute or two to cool down because these are served off the broiler. Served with a loaf of bread topped with melted butter and parmesan, oysters were packed with so much flavor. A bit on the salty side but nothing the lemon or bread can tame (that's what they're there for!) Bread was also a good have to absorve the melted butter goodness on the bottom of the plate. LOUISINA CRAWFISH BREAD: To be honest, I have NEVER heard of such a thing, I had to have it! It's a small French bread look-alike bread topped with crawfish and all sorts of seasoning and sidekicks. There was plenty of crawfish to cover each bite. Melted cheese wasn't overpowering. The whole thing is seasoned well. Definitely a good first run! My party had the seafood as well as chicken and andouille gumbo. I didn't get to try either one, but from the looks of their empty bowls, it's safe to assume they liked it. FOOD: 5. We liked everything. SERVICE: 4. Friendly staff. Service with a smile is always a plus! VALUE: 3.5. More than fair for what we got. PARKING: Street. Someone mentioned a parking lot but I'm not sure. Might wanna check on that if you on driving through.OVERALL: 4.25. So, yeah. Big Bro's calling an audible paid off. Definitely recommending.

I came to this place at least 10Years ago and the bartender gave a lesson on how to prepare and eat Oysters. I have done it the same way since and even take my saltines to places if I know they don't have them. So happy to be back

We stopped by Mr. Ed's for lunch while in NOLA. Our server, Lee was fabulous. He suggested All his favorites. We loved the red fish which was served with sautéed vegetables and a side of jambalaya. Really tasty! Can't wait to visit again next time we are in town to try some more of their yummy menu items!!

Mr Ed's is much better than the previous Cajun restaurant I reviewed. It's more toned down, a lot smaller, and a few blocks away from the outside commotion. The oysters were more generous and the blackened chicken salad was well made. Had a nice conversation with our server about him moving to DC and the weather in Chicago. It's nice that you can actually speak at a normal volume.
