Glad I happened upon this living room-like neighborhood watering hole. I stopped in for a drink after a walk around Audubon Park. The pour was quite healthy and the pourer was super friendly. The regulars there that evening were very welcoming as well. The bar has a few TVs playing sports, news, and other programs. There's a pool table. And there are multiple comfy sofas and chairs in addition to the numerous stools. I plan on frequenting MHB going forward. See y'all there!

I went to the monkey hill bar to hear a friend who performed there. Very cozy atmosphere while you're listening to the music you can have a drink and relax.

What a cozy bar! We stumbled on this place randomly one night. It was fairly empty which was fine by us. I love a dark bar for all sorts of reasons. Lol. They have a really nice wooden bar. There's a seating area that looks like a living room which was odd and great at the same time. Drinks are reasonable and I love love love that they have the electeonic machine with different games on the corner of the bar. It was obvious they get regulars from the neighborhood coming in and out which is always good to see. Great neighborhood bar.

This place blew me away!! Lived in Nola for 8 years near by and it's always been on my list. I'll admit, we went hungry and from their social media, it appeared they had a delicious menu. Upon arriving, we found out they no longer utilize their kitchen. I'm not sure why but this place would KILL IT with a kitchen. There was almost no one in the building and it is the most adorable spot for date night, couple of friends wanting to catch up or even a spot to play pool. In December they are decorated for the holidays and you can hear the faint Christmas music playing from outside. Behind the bar there is an entertainment room where you can rent out parties. The owner was in and showed me the room himself. I will absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing ambiance or a private party. For private parties, they will assist with food. They have many tvs to display the games and offer sound for their projection screen. Lastly, the bathrooms are gorgeous. You can't find many places with nice bathrooms but Monkey Hill kept the entire place filled with historical Nola charm. I can't stress this enough.... Check out this place!

I am a fan of Monkey Hill Bar, but more specifically, I am a huge fan of the crawfish they serve on Friday. It's a catered affair. Chef Brett provides the goods. Here's the deal. Chef Brett I think is based out of Gretna. He boils a boat load of crawfish and cooks a second boat load of jambalaya or pastalaya. The crawfish are killer. Very nice sized crawfish and they are seasoned beautifully. For some, I bet they fall on the spicy side. I love this. For me, these are the best crawfish in the city. Just my one vote. For jambalya, also excellent. Chef Brett also cooks a pastalaya which is good but not as good. I'm less excited by the pastalaya than the jambalaya. It's just not as good. I recommend getting their early, close to 5. The crawfish start to cool down later in the evening, and we have caught them when they are downright cold. So early is better. Here are some negative things. Monkey Hill bar is not crushing it on the service. You have to buy a ticket from the bartender then get the food. Sometimes the bartender is slow to the game, so it just bogs the system down when are just waiting around to order the crawfish. Also, if you want a refill on drinks or water, you have to go back up to the bar and begin the wait all over. Sometimes it's quick but I hate waiting around for a drink when I have hot crawfish waiting at the table. Despite the minor inconveniences that come with eating in a full on bar, the crawfish are so damn good, it's worth it. Try them out.

Monkey Hill is one of coolest neighborhood bars in New Orleans. First of all, it's big. There's probably a half dozen couches, a few lounge chairs and just a great place to unwind after a long day. Thursday steak night is my favorite.

Monkey Hill Bar has become my annual birthday destination - mainly because of the delicious bananas foster and cupcake martinis. In years past, I would come to Monkey Hill sit down with family and friends and stay for a good portion of the night. However, this year for my birthday, we were having a nice drink when about 100 college kids came in. I'm not sure if this was an official event or if a bus just came and dropped off a bunch of babies, but either way, the bartenders gave my group absolutely no warning. No "Hey there's a college party. Please close your tabs!" We just looked over and there was a swarm of college kids at the door. Also, that's a bit worrisome that my late twenties friends and I could have easily crashed that party. When we saw the group of college kids, we closed our tabs as quickly as possible and headed out the door. I've always liked Monkey Hill because it was a chill bar that wasn't flooded with college kids (been there done that at other bars), so it is disappointing that the one day I go, there was a party of that size. I hope this isn't a trend.

The bartender (Hannah) added drinks to my tab that I did not get. Not only would she not take the extra drinks off, but she added a 25% tip to the check despite that fact that I had already tipped her. I was unaware of the illegal additional tip she added until I checked my credit card statement. Extremely poor customer service and unprofessional bartenders. I will never be returning to this bar and I highly recommend avoiding this bar as well.
