Miles and miles of paved path to bike run or walk along the river!!! So many places to stop! My photos are from the LaSalle Landing! Cute historic stop at the first world heavy weight championship! May 10, 1870!

It's long, straight foot path that goes for miles in sort of a peripheral city atmosphere where you see plenty of buildings, but also parks, greenery, and river so it's a very harmoniously balanced spot. One of the city's hidden gems.

I'm a moderately active biker (think spandex not leather) but not to the point of wearing a neon skin tight jersey that have more company names than a Nascar. I ride for excercise and pleasure so I'm not breaking any speed records. With all that said, the Levee is a really good place to ride no matter your speed. The levee runs from The Fly in New Orleans all the way out to the Valero refinery in Norco. I believe the total distance is 25 miles long. I've only made the entire trip back and forth once for the 50 mile trek. The pro's of the levee trail are that there are no real interruptions from car traffic (there can be a car come over the levee but it's pretty rare) so you can maintain your pace without starting and stopping a ton. You have a cool view of the river for a lot of the ride, plenty of ramps to jump off and on the trail, and a few bars to hop off and get a beer along the way. (Don't judge bar hopping via bike is a great time!)The cons are there is very little shade, and the wind at times can be a killer. Especially in the spring when a fella may have gained a few pounds and is just getting started again. Another issue is sometimes people are walking up there which is cool but when they take up the whole path and wont move, I want to just run their asses over. It's not that common of an occurance but happens enough to mention. Overall a great place to ride in an urban environment.

Nice smooth paved pathway. No lights at night so it can get a little dark and a bit buggy out. Lots of scenery to take in and even a few bars along the way in case you feel the need to reward yourself for your efforts.

We were looking for a park to sit and eat lunch. This was supposed to be close. Hit the button for directions, and it takes us to an asphalt walkway on top of what I'd guess is a spillway in front of this business. That's it. There's absolutely nothing else there, and no place to park or anything else. Tack on that we sat at the top of the spillway for about 3 minutes deciding where we were going to go instead, and a cop or security guard complete with lights and a siren pulls up behind us, hits the siren, and tells us we can't be there unless we work at that business. Really nice. Besides startling us both, our food is getting cold driving somewhere else.
