Matt's Grocery and Deli

This place is pretty off the beaten path. I never would have been aware of its existence if I hadn't been picking up clothing from an alterations place in the same strip mall. But since I saw it, I decided to stop in and see what they have.The place is part convenience store, part food counter. It is #AsianOwned and has fried food, Chinese food, and po-boys. I saw something on the menu called "John rice" and decided to try it. Turns out it's a mildly spicy, mildly peppery fried rice with egg and tasso; pretty good! It was cooked to order and ready pretty fast.Prices are reasonable and the food was pretty good. Not something I'd go out of the way for, but a solid option if you're in the area. I noted that the whole strip mall was covered in security bars/shutters, so this may not be the place to go to alone after dark.

Basic convenience store that serves hot plates.Chicken wings - so crispy. so greasy. so perfect. I honestly don't think anyone can really f up chicken wings. Spicy fried rice - wowza! This can get your mouth tingling. It has so much more flavor than the regular fried rice. So if you can handle a bit of heat, make it hot!Fries - I would say you can't f up fries. But they can and they did. It was over fried and super hard. Probably fresh from the freezer fries. Hot sausage on toast with egg and cheese, fully dressed - omgggg. I love this. It's so good. Today they forgot my cheese and my egg wasn't over easy, so it wasn't as much of a guilty pleasure as I was hoping, but still good enough to finish. Lol. Boneless chicken - I don't eat boneless chicken very often, but when I do... it's from Matt's. And only if they're fresh out the fryer. Topped off with some duck sauce. Oh yes! It's the only way to eat it. Everything is fairly priced and you can find things such a white bread, canned soup, and possibly other daily essentials. It's a convenience store! It is in a slightly sketchy neighborhood, so I'd just stop by if you were ever in the area. Lol.

New menus attached, FYI. Matt's Grocery recently changed ownership but the food is still just as good in my book. I've uploaded the most recent menus. I work across the street and my coworkers and I go by there a couple times a week. The Cajun burger is amazing!

They have a fried shrimp salad that is extraordinary and a small is under 8 bucks. Staff is very friendly service is always quick.

Love this place! Have the BEST chicken in town! Real cool people! Great food and good price!

Forget Manchu..... This place is winning if ur looking for some good fried rice and chicken wings!!!! Area isn't so pretty and it's a convenient store but don't let that shit fool u.... Quick food. On the go food. Don't feel like cooking and ur home alone food. Fat girl Fat boy moment food!!!! Idea gotten. Basically food is delish.

Went to Matt's while visiting family in the area. The guy who rung the order was surprisingly polite and my fish po-boys and fried chicken plate was good and tasty. I also like that they sell The Hot Mama Pickles, and other stacks that are hard to find. The surrounding area is not the safest feeling, and I would use caution tracking to this location if you go in the evening. But for a decent sandwich and fried chicken give them a try.

Absolutely love their chicken wings every time we stop by in New Orleans east and craving for wings we would come here!
