Continuing my quest to find the best plate lunch in Lafayette, I tried The Lunch Box for lunch yesterday.Only plate lunches were available yesterday and on the menu was BBQ ribs and chicken.I enjoyed the chicken, garlic bread and the baked However, the Rice Dressing could have been a bit more.... seasoned. Overall...not bad. The search continues

Old neighborhood favorite. Solid plate lunch performance and consistent quality. I love the barbecue chicken and rice recipe here. It's my go to dish. I have friends who eat here and they love the roast and rice dressing as well some gravy on it. Extra calories for those of us who need it. :-)

Solid southern food and a quick lunchtime experience. We ate here twice during a recent business trip to Lafayette, both times with a group of our customers. On both occasions, we ate the daily specials. Was it the best food ever? No. But was it solid comfort food, good value, and efficient service? Definitely. On the first visit, I had the 'meatball stew' which was basically two large beef meatballs in a dark brown gravy 'stew', served over white rice, with a side of (overcooked) sweet peas and canned peaches. The gravy reminded me of the kind of dark brown salty packet gravy you make to go with meatloaf, except this was apparently scratch made and started with a roux. It was definitely tasty and I ate the entire thing. Not healthy at all. But tasty. On the second visit, I had the BBQ pork chops over 'rice dressing' served with garlic bread, potato salad and baked beans. The pork chops were very large; the rice dressing was basically rice cooked with minced beef (again, tasty), and the garlic bread was totally drenched in butter (YUM). Potato salad was cold and almost like mashed potatoes mixed with sweet pickles (strange, but oddly delicious). The baked beans were your typical beans just like out of a can. Again, very tasty. Not healthy at all. But tasty. Not a vegetable to be seen really....though believe it or not, they do have salad on the menu! Both lunches set me back $9 each, including a tip. Co-worker and customers had a variety of items ranging from po'boys to burgers to gumbo. Everything looked and smelled good. On top of that, the place was packed with a stream of people coming in the door; there was never an empty table; and service was relatively fast despite the crowds. If you are in town for a while, looking for a local experience and want something quick, cheap and satisfying, I don't think you can go wrong here.

I usually do not like to see give our local fast food cafe a bad review, but, just experience a load of extremely salty potatoes which could not even take a few small bite without my blood pressure going haywire . They need to taste food before customers do.

A local hotspot in Lafayette that brings in a large lunch crowd. I had a basic cheeseburger poboy that was not spectacular. The locals seemed to be dining on seafood, which may have been a better option. There is a lot of fried food here if that is your thing. It is not Roving Professor's thing.

Ok, so pretty much everything I love in Lafayette is on Moss Street. What can I say... it was my old stomping ground. I was born and raised on the Northside of Lafayette, but did some time in Carencro and the Southside of Lafayette, but I'll always remember these places on Moss Street that I go back to when I am in town visiting my family. There are really a lot of good po-boy places in and around Lafayette including Chris' on Moss Street as well and Kyle's in Breaux Bridge. I love the shrimp po-boys and the catfish po-boys. When I was a kid it was always sausage, but since I am a Texan now and eat as much sausage as anyone should, I always opt for seafood po-boys these days. The best lunch in the world is a dressed catfish po-boy with a cold beer from The Lunch box. It gets my highest recommendation.

Always a pretty good meal every time I come here. Their meatball stew is so yummy and flavorful. Recently tried their shrimp poboy, and although the bread was like a hot dog bun, it was still delicious! The shrimp and sauce were so tasty and delicious that it didn't even need the fancy French bread. They have really good, simple home cooked food.
