If you like Mexican food and have never been to this restaurant you are missing out. This is hands down the best Mexican food available in Houma. Having lived in both Texas and Los Angeles for extended periods of time, I feel like I have a pretty good feel for what real Mexican food tastes like. If you're looking to kick back a few Margarita's at a Tex Mex restaurant then this is not the place for you. If you want fresh authentic Mexican food that is served piping hot every time then this is the place you want to go. I'll give a step by step review of what you can expect.Beverages: As far as I know they don't serve any alcohol. But they do have some Jarrito's drinks and they only serve sweet tea which has quite a bit of lemon in it so if that's not what you like you may prefer a soda or some water to go with your meal.Dips: You'll be presented with two salsas both of which are pretty spicy so if you have a low tolerance for spice you might want to pass on these. They also serve some pickled vegetables with the salsas (onions, peppers, carrots, etc. with a hint of cumin). These go well with chips but also are good to add some flavor to tacos. They have a pretty solid queso dip and also a good guacamole both of which are reasonably prices. Guacamole is served fresh and if I had to guess more often than not it's made to order.Entrees:If you go for lunch they have a few daily lunch specials that are available Monday - Friday. I'd recommend forgoing those options for the dinners which are really at lunch price points anyway.Below I'll make a few recommendationsEnchiladas Suizas - Chicken Enchiladas served with a tomatillo sauce on top and melted cheese. Simple but very tasty and it served with black beans and rice.Enchiladas Potosinos - You might be a little surprised when you get this dish because it really has the appearance of Tostadas.Tacos - There are multiple different meats that you can choose for the tacos. It will be served the way it is served by authentic taco stands with two corn tortillas, white onions, cilantro, and lime. If you prefer more tex mex type toppings such as sour cream they will honor that request.Carne A La Tampequena - Steak served with guacamole, tortillas, cheese enchiladas. Very well seasoned beef that makes for some great tacos or is good enough to eat as a stand alone dish.Chile Relleno - This is a classic stufed relleno dish with cheese stuffing and topped with a homemade ranchero sauce. Rice and beans also served with this dish.Chicken Mole - Bone in chicken legs served with an authentic homemade mole sauce served with rice and beans. If you've never tried a mole sauce you might want to read up on what one is before you jump head first into this dish. It's a little different and not for everyone.Soups - They have several Mexican soups here that you certainly won't find at any Tex Mex places and maybe not even most of the newer authentic type places that have been opening up. There are a couple of soups that they only serve on the weekends (Pozole being an example.)Tamales - These are only served on Saturday and sometimes Sunday. They're pretty generous sized pork tamales wrapped in banana leaves. If you eat two of these with some beans and rice you'll definitely be full. Hands down the best tamales you'll get in town. I like to throw some of the spicy salsa on them. To each their own.So you might be reading this review and asking why I like the place so much. A few reasons which I'll quickly outline.Fresh ingredientsAuthenticityClean environment (let's be honest, you don't get this in all authentic type Mexican places)Guacamole is made fresh and isn't half brown when you get it like most places in townFood is always served hot (again this might seem like something small but you know plenty of places in Houma can't even get this right)Inexpensive - There are only a couple menu items over 10 dollars and the portions are generous enough. They know how to properly make Mexican rice. It's the only place in town where the rice isn't terrible.
