Hands down the absolute best food and service!!! We did the 5 course meal at Latil's landing with the wine pairing and everything was perfect. The wine that accompanied each entree was paired perfectly and the service was top notch. The sea bass was absolutely delicious and the veal was so perfectly cooked that it melted in your mouth. The timing of the entrees was also impeccable. A bit pricey but worth every penny.

After a fantastic tour of the Houmas mansion and grounds, we were lucky enough to enjoy a lunch at Latil's Landing. The staff was a bit curt, but that didn't stop us from enjoying the great views of the gardens and friendly diners. I ordered a Smoked Salmon Salad which looked like it had an entire fish on it and was very refreshing and lite. I was surprised to find heirloom tomatoes on the salad and coming from CA, am skeptical of heirlooms anywhere else. They were great! My mom had a HUGE bowl of gumbo which was full of fish and andouille. My friend had a ham and brie sandwich and her mom had a shrimp po'boy (which was overflowing with crispy shrimp, so much so that they were almost falling off the plate). Now a meal like this in a location like this sounds like it would be expensive...not at all! My salad was $14, the sandwich $12. It's a steal for all the food you get. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/FWPpQ1FH4f7AC0imO5kvQA?select=g8wdWIyDOvMDAijcuYtsOg

This has been a favorite restaurant for many years. Always have loved it- bit disappointed with this occasion.I took my mom here for her birthday and chose the the 7 course meal plan.Bread basket was small in selection. The three butters were great! Between the pork cheeks and the mango crab cakes I was in heaven.I had the duck and okra gumbo- it was so so. Zero okra at all.Beet and crab salad was fantastic just extremely small. Crab meat was sweet and lumped perfectly.Lemon basil sorbet was amazing! I truly wanted more!!!The main meal was not great. I chose the lobster. It was TINY! Very disappointed with it. Flavor was not great at all.Dessert was lava cake and bananas foster. Lava was mediocre at best. Bananas foster was good.Overall, I'm really sad with my meal. I spent almost $300.00 and left dissatisfied.

The Houmas House is simply enchanting! The grounds are breathtaking and the service across the board is outstanding - from the woman in the gift shop who took our day-of reservation over the phone to the exceedingly talented gentlemen bartenders at the Turtle Bar to the waiter we enjoyed at Latil's for our excellent meal and dessert! We will definitely be recommending this extraordinary culinary, mixology and aesthetic adventure to everyone we know who's planning a trip to New Orleans - definitely worth the drive out if you're staying in the French Quarter like we are. Turtle Bar: John and Derek are amazing - extensive and rare alcohol selections with expert, unbelievable mixologists who routinely come up with mind blowing creations...Latil's: BBQ shrimp appetizer, Houmas House Salad with locally sourced blue cheese (phenomenal), cranberry sorbet aperitif with Grey Goose topper, filet mignon with fingerling potatoes and Red Fish with ratatouille and local fresh veggies, finished with mint julep creme brûlée - stunning presentation and exquisite flavors!!

We ate at Cafe Burnside for lunch (it is called Latil's Landing for the more upscale dinner service I guess?) after taking a weekday tour of the Houmas house and gardens because it is there on the grounds. The menu is relatively well rounded for its size and for a restaurant serving a tlimited clientele (Houmas House tourists and a few locals). Service was good, if a little scattered and unorganized--the poor Swiss tourists seated by us were completely forgotten about for 15 minutes after getting their menus.Every table gets a basket of bread and sweet pecan butter. They did offer daily specials during our vist, but we ordered the burger and the catfish to split. The burger comes with basically every topping you could want (cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, bacon, mayo) and great fries. It was well cooked and tasted good, not to mention it seemed to be pretty popular throughout the restaurant. The catfish had a delicious cornmeal batter and the crawfish etouffee was decent, but the rice it was served over was a little weird for the style of the dish (curry powder or turmeric flavor to it....hmmm) and the asparagus side was pretty flavorless--not even garlic or butter. Many around us ordered dessert and I noticed the shrimp po-boy was absolutely stuffed, which kind of made me jealous so you might try it out. Overall, if you are in the area or touring the Houmas House then this is a perfect place to stop. It is not an overwhelmingly delicious restaurant, but it definitely is good and will please most anyone in your crowd.

I came for brunch with a party of 7 and absolutely loved the experience. The food was exceptional and the service was very nice. I would definitely recommend a brunch here. The best part is walking around the gardens afterwards. Here's the rundown:*Bloody Marys are delish, with a little bit of spice to them. Brandy Milk Punch, not so much. They didn't know how to make it. Stick to the basics!*Their bread basket includes dragonfly shaped mimosa biscuits (awesome!) and they serve the bread with 3 kinds of butter. The pecan spice one was divine.*Their prices are very good for the quality of the food you get. Put it this way, we went to another Cajun restaurant and for 30% more we got less food and mediocre quality. Latil's definitely impressed!*Crab Mango Cake Salad - this was very good. A generous crabcake on top of a chipotle remoulade with a side salad and fresh tomatoes.*Gulf Fish - it was the drum with a very generous amount of lump crab meat on top. Tasty!*Grits & Grillades - made with veal, and a very nice presentation. Looked fabulous and I didn't hear any complaints. The only thing is that there are no signs directing you here once you arrive on the grounds of Houmas House. I would definitely recommend some wayfinding signs so the older guests don't have to walk around in circles like my grandma had to do!

Perfect from start to finish. Beautiful restaurant and grounds, polite and attentive staff, and amazing food. We made a last minute reservation here for our 10th anniversary when our other plans fell through. So glad we did - we'll be back!

Took my fiancé for Valentine's Day and had a fantastic experience. It was her first time there, so a staff member brought us around the grounds in a golf cart, giving a nice view of the many fountains. We arrived early for drinks at the turtle bar, where we both enjoyed an excellent old fashioned. The only thing missing was the cherry. Regardless, it was one of the better ones I've had. Since it was Valentine's Day, we a walk around the fountains, where a staff member even offered to take a picture for us. We had an 8:30 reservation but were not seated until almost 9. It was no big deal, as we had nowhere else to be. The Valentine's menu was smaller than the normal menu, but still had plenty of excellent options. The meal was $100 a person and included a full five courses.Appetizer - She had the mango crab cake and I ordered the pumpkin, crawfish and corn bisque. The bisque is one of my favorite menu items and did not disappoint. The crab cake was very good as well. Salad - very fresh greens and an amazing house dressing. It was sweet, yet, not over-poweringIn between the salad and the main course was a cosmopolitan sorbet. It came in a nice cocktail glass (see gallery) dipped in Mardi Gras colors. The waitress then poured orange Gray Goose Vodka into the sorbet, where you then mash it all down with a spoon. A wonderful combination and very refreshing surprise, for first time visitors. Main Course - I ordered the grouper crusted in zapps potato chips, which was served with jambalaya grits. She ordered the seafood crepe with fried soft shell crab. Both dishes were amazing. As a Louisiana native, I loved the incorporation of Zapps potato chips to the grouper. Usually, I'm not a fan of grits but these has bits of andouille mashed up in them which gave it a nice southern flair. I really enjoyed that unique twist. Dessert - We split the bread pudding and cheese cake. By this time, I was so full, that I barely remember the desserts. I know she loves her cheese cake. The part I do remember was the chocolate covered strawberry. It may have been the best I've ever had. If you want a quick meal, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for somewhere to bring your significant other for a romantic evening, then Houmas House is your place.

I really hate to give a 1 star review to anyone, but unfortunately I've been eating here for years and my last experience insured I'll not be going back. For years my bf and I have brought our family in for the holidays and been excited to drive slightly out of town for a celebratory dinner. Unfortunately, the change in executive chef and menu were not the only two issues. I'll start with the menu change. This restaurant is now Prix Fixe only and there are options for 7 courses or 9. I don't always mind this but I also don't think this makes restaurant successful in the long term (RIP Stella!). Our waiter told us that the owner always wanted Prix Fixe but Langlois wouldn't go for it. I also felt the drag in service between getting a drink and getting food. Our waiter had 5 tables and no help that I could see, which resulted in long waits for drinks and food. There were some dishes missing from the choices that made me a little sad (duck confit and Abita shrimp & grits for example). We were told we could choose from either menu with the 7 course, which meant there were two more options...whoo hoo!! The amuse was actually the best item we ate all night. A nicely cooked duck breast over sweet potato hash...yum! As for our dinner, we started with pork belly and it sounded very promising. Once it was delivered, I almost squealed with excitement as the texture was perfect! Then I put it in my mouth...cold pork fat!! The lack of reheating of these beautiful morsels makes me sad even as I write this. *tears* Moving onto the soup, turtle soup to be exact. This soup was more the consistence of a gravy but really had some great flavor. In hindsight, I should've just asked for rice and more soup. Then we had some okay house salads and the ever present sorbet with vodka (never a bad idea). This is where things really head south. For our entrees, I ordered the tuna topped with soft shell crawfish and my bf ordered the triple tail. First glance, we were both ready to dig in! But when we did...my bf came up with a mouth full of bones and my tuna was ready for a can. The tuna was so over cooked that I didn't eat it and that is saying a lot. The soft shell crawfish was okay but could've used some seasoning. Neither of us ate our entrée and then the chef came by to ask how everything was...we didn't complain too much but also told him we wouldn't be back. He didn't seem to mind.I wish it was over here but nope, got to eat dessert. The bf ordered some chocolate mousse dish and I thought I'd be safe with a seasonal fruit (green apple) tart. This tart was stuck to my teeth longer than a Now & Later from 1984. I took one bite and asked for the check.I'm sorry but these things are unacceptable at this price point. We're hoping they get these things fixed sooner rather than later but I'll have to watch Yelp! for updates before I make that drive again.
