This bright and welcoming restaurant is becoming a regular stop for me on my visits to New Orleans. The owner is friendly and takes a great deal of pride in his business, and rightly so. He's very happy to answer questions about the menu. The food is fresh and absolutely delicious. Their vegan options are great for lactose intolerant people, such as myself. These pupusas don't need cheese to be amazing. Be sure to try the horchata, too!

Outstanding service with Manolo, the owner. The El Salvadoran pupusas are delicious, and the main plates are excellent. The grilled carne de res with shrimp was very good. I loved the seafood sauce topping the rice, and the black bean puree - mua! While a lot of food, I felt great after because they use fresh and natural ingredients - something many restaurants have abandoned.Wait, the dessert. I love the flan. It is absolutely fantastic. I had to grab an extra one to go for my Spanish mother.Delicious and healthy El Salvadoran dining in a fun environment. I'll be back soon!

I first came to La Macarena back in 2017 and it was a great establishment then, but having tried it again recently all I can say is it has only gotten BETTER! The food is excellent and you can't go wrong with anything. The owner Manny is very welcoming and only wants the best. La Macarena is a New Orleans gem!

The food and service are so heartfelt! Kind owner just re did the whole menu to include more vegan and vegetarian options. Everything is so fresh, hot, delicious and definitely made from the heart. Feels like a family visit every time I pop in. The 3 papusa combo is always a good choice!

I stumbled on La Macarena and it's an absolute delight. Cozy, great food, and the perfect welcome in the form of Manny -- co-owner, character, and sweetheart of a human being. He recommended the pork and Salvadoran cheese. And the limeade. And he was right. Bright and cheery decor, intimate setting. Loved it!

Came out of town from Texas, and found this resturant online. I have to say it is my favorite resturant in New Orleans. The owners are such standup people and have the best service Ive ever seen my whole life. Being a family owned resturant I have to say this was possibly the best dining experience Ive had in my life. I could taste the love in the food.

This place is amazing! The owner went above and beyond to treat us vegans right. We always appreciate a specific vegan menu and it was so extensive! He was so welcoming, gave us bean dip on the house since it was our first time. While we waited they ensured us that everything was made from scratch and you can tell! So fresh and yummy. Each thing was better than the next. The guacamole really stood out to me, so fresh with a perfect zing. The passionfruit margaritas made in house were also perfect. This is the kind of local joint you travel for!
