BE AWARE: Exposing your body in an attempt to get more beads is considered to be uncool. There are children who come to these parades, you will get in trouble, possibly arrested and possibly be registered as a sex offender for exposing your body parts to small children. Please be considerate of others.Browsing my bookmarks, I realize I have made a grave mistake! How can I have had this bookmarked since Mardi Gras season of 2017? Wow! I am slacking.Krewe of Thoth runs the Uptown route on the Sunday before the big day. They have been in existence since 1947, so not as long as some, but longer than others. This krewe does not seem to be as drunk as some of the others, and they make the goodies rain. I love the bright floats. As mentioned previously in another review, I like how they planned this route to go in front of extended healthcare facilities to throw to patients. How nice is that! The parade is a precursor to Bacchus, which is the final parade for this day, and is the 3rd parade to run for the day. I do love a good parade.

Thoth is another unique carnival experience. It has the longest route of any uptown parade because it starts near children's hospital. It was originated by physician's (Thoth being the Egyptian god of medicine) and so has been allowed to deviate from the standard route and pass a couple of hospitals. The riders are generous and they always have some unique out of town bands. Bonus points because this year I met friends outside of Boulangerie bakery to catch the parade and got to watch & eat fresh pastry. Yea!

Super fun parade on the Sunday afternoon before Mardi Gras. The route is long and it runs right by my place. This parade is unique and one of my favorites because they attempt to pass in front of all the extended healthcare facilities that care for people with disabilities and illnesses in New Orleans. A generous and caring Krewe that makes Mardi Gras and New Orleans so special! The floats are huge and there are MANY. The riders look like they're having a blast and are super generous. It's a great way to get your Sunday afternoon started and carry you through the long Mardi Gras stretch.

Okay, this is a really fun parade and they are super generous with their throws--I usually leave with 1 or 2 bags full of stuff from this parade alone, which is fun. But this parade is SO. LONG. Are they 80 million floats? That's what it feels like. It's just so tedious after 2 other Sunday morning parades and right before Bacchus. I know people who basically never make it through half of this parade because it's just so tiring. But I am not those people. I like this one, the floats are cool, they throw a lot. So I'll stand their for 400 hours and catch stuff.

This parade is long, full o' throws, full o' cool floats (this year designed after streets/alleys/places of interest in NOLA) and full o' good will (the parade route is made so they pass by over a dozen organizations for people with disabilities/illnesses). Favorite throw was the blingy medallion beads. Love that the 610 Stompers are a part of it because they crack me up. Less thrilled with what seemed like more boom box pop music than brass bands.I think this parade has convinced me, however, that I need to maybe not live on a parade route next year. So many people set up shop on "my" front lawn (if I owned this house, you can bet on it that I'd construct a fence) and left tons of trash including a tarp behind. Then there was the dude who brought a GAS GRILL and ran a picnic (he did not know anyone who lived here) for his family. His kids kept running up like roaches on my front porch to grab anything they could find. Actually, so did he. I know, I know, it's Mardi Gras, but... let's just say that if they had some manners, I wouldn't really care. His kids and the kids with the family who set up their ladders on the front lawn started throwing beads, footballs etc back and forth with the revelers who live upstairs. After all the parades were over and everyone was drunk, for a grand finale, one of the fathers got into a fight with the a guy upstairs on the balcony and charged into the building to kick his ass. Quite a ruckus indeed. But it's not Thoth's fault. Great parade.

Love Thoth! If you've felt a little sad because of how few beads you've received during Mardi Gras, well make your way to Thoth so you can acquire a bead-induced neck ache. We took some MG noobs to Thoth who were really excited about bringing beads back to their classrooms (out of town teachers). They left with four tote bags worth of beads. Beware of heavy objects - Thoth is a huge fan of throwing giant unopened bags of beads. Although I never catch it that early, I really like that Thoth rolls near the children's hospital and some other spots not on the regular route so people can enjoy the parade.

This is a really great and generous parade. It's a great precursor to Bacchus and really gets the crowd going. The riders seemed to be having a good time and made the experience fun for everyone.

Welp, what could be better than to do the best Mardi Gras parade for my 300th review?!?!The Krewe of Thoth is consistently rated the best day parade by many NOLA publications, and it continues to live up to those ratings. Thoth has the longest parade route, having a special permit to start at Tchoupitoulas and State Streets, so that it may pass by Children's Hospital as well as several retirement homes, special care units, and Saint Clare's Monestary. This is an amazing tradition and Thoth has developed great relationships with these places, even putting on a walking event a few weeks before parade season where several members go to these places and deliver Mardi Gras goodies in person.Thoth members never stop throwing along the route, and there are always great bands and dancing groups interspersed among the 40 floats. The theme is always good, and the parade is always entertaining. And I can assure you the riders are having just as much fun (if not more) as the spectators.HAIL THOTH!!!
