Krewe of Themis

Let me begin with a disclaimer as I answer Ms. Lysa G. who must not understand New Orleans parade regulations. I am a proud charter member of Themis. Post this, or not, Yelp.Issue number 1, Lysa: There is a finite number of parade permits that the city of New Orleans will issue, and until a permit-holding krewe folds, none of the three offshoots of Nyx can have its own parade. They must all ride as part of an existing parade. We ride as part of the Krewe of Freret, which requires us to wear their costumes (believe me, we've asked for our own!). Ditto for the signs on the tractors.Second, the umbrellas. In the three years since we were founded, the quality and creativity of these throws has grown, now matching just about anything Muses or Iris are throwing. I joined this group of outstanding women as a New Orleans transplant to make friends and contribute to the city, and some of my very best friends were made at Themis events. This group is anything but mediocre.

The Krewe of Themis is one of the spin off krewes after the mass exit of Nyx. Three spin-off krewes rolled that day, Themis,MOOTP and Harmonia. Themis, who rolled with the Krewe of Freret was mediocre. While the signature throw ( umbrella) was decent, it's hard to call them Themis when they clearly had on Krewe of Freret's costumes and rode on floats with Krewe of Freret on them. The throws had themis on them, but that's about it.They say you only get one time to make a first impression and they blew it in my opinion. Are they Themis or Freret?

Although I'm happy they broke away from the krewe of Nyx,these ladies are lacking when it comes to throwing. They aren't bad,just seriously lacking and skimpy.

I have to agree with Lysa and Kevin. While those umbrellas pictured really look nice,they are not what typically comes off the float.And a Charter member has a biased opinion of the krewe.It's nowhere near objective. She would be wise to take constructive criticism from those of us who have no dog in the fight. Themis definitely was stingy to the crowd this year.Hoping they fix these growing pains.
