Here is a bit of history about this parade from their own website. The Krewe of Pygmalion is a New Orleans Carnival Club founded in 2000 by a group of Carnival veterans who wanted to provide a high-quality parade for the first week of the Mardi Gras Season. The Krewe of Pygmalion is named after a Cypress king who fell in love with a statue the theme for 2017 is "Journey to the Jade Empire," will celebrate a foreign culture. Hold your hands up high to catch plush panda bears, bracelets, glittery masks, flags, footballs, light-up flowers and necklaces aplenty. While I caught nothing special this year at this parade, that wasn't surprising, as there wasn't much special about this parade. They still have the grim faces of someone being forced to do something they don't really want to do. What Suzanne, then Marielle state still stands. They just don't seem to be having fun. This is a good parade for families with small children. Both of my teenaged nephews were not impressed though. But at 18 and 15, that's quite a feat.

The Krewe of Pygmalion is a young Krewe establish at 2000. The name Pygmalion is derived from Greek mythology sculpture. The Krewe parade is started near the Audubon Park. It is 4.5 mile from the canal street. It will take 2 hours or more to reach the canal street. This is almost like the late night parade. This parade is more gear to the adult than the children. By the time it finishes is closed to 11:00 PM. The parade compose of the Chorus Girl Project, The Disco Group, Roux's Cabaret, dance studio, several high school band and cheer leader. There is King and Queen Float that give out special bead medallion. Their floats are beautiful to display to public. They elephant, purple swan, Jesuit, The Greek Statues, Butterfly, Baby catching the Bug, Mermaid, and The Secret Heart. All this floats has people throwing the beads to the spectator. The best offend is the best defend. Basically you have to raise your hand up to protect yourself from getting hit by the beads. You will not know where and when the beads arrive. As a result, raising your hand can block the beads hit your face and catch it at the mid air. The bead throwers are crazy. Since we are close to end of parade route, the beads were throw in who bag that was not open or large amount in spray pattern. Our hotel has to put out the beads recycle bin for the excess amount of beads that you don't want to carry home. We are one of the people has to put our beads in this bin every night since there is new one tomorrow. The Canal street center aisle is the great area to catch both side of the parade if you want shower of beads. I say again shower of beads. It is insane amount of beads if you are in that aisle. They are also throwing the stuff toy. You will definite enjoy when you collect so much free items in large beg.

This parade actually cheezed me off. There was NOTHING exceptional about Pygmalion. The first few floats or marching groups set the tone for the entire parade, and this krewe decided to start with royalty that Were Not Having Fun under all their finery. I understand needing gear to assist with the overwhelming weight of a royal dress on a moving float...but when it looks like the maids are standing on the gallows waiting for the hangman to do his job, there is a problem. (And I'm not just talking about the metal structure behind the large feathered collars. I'm talking about the grim looks on their faces.) The 2011 theme (It's All Greek To Me) felt like a series of memorials to parades that ain't dere no mo' packed full of riders having no fun. They were acting like it was their JOB to ride on the parades instead of a pleasure to ride. Krewe isn't having fun? Then reviewer isn't having fun. I spent most of this parade counting down until I could go to dinner. Did I mention the Grand Marshals of the parade? No? Well, good grief. The first float, even before the miserable looking maids, was the cast of The Bad Girls Club which is apparently a show on Oxygen. I guess Pygmalion was the only krewe that would take these women as riders. I wasn't impressed. Recommended beer: Heineken. It seems like a decent idea, but it only manages to leave a bad taste in your mouth.

This isn't one of the biggest or fanciest parades, but it's a good little kick off to the Mardi Gras parade season. They don't have any really special throws, but I did get a cup to add to my "collection".Suzanne pretty much hit the nail on the head with this one.

Pygmalion is a relatively new krewe (founded 2000). I like that it's co-ed and the folks did seem to be having a good time this year. They had some decent bands this year. And, of course, the weather was gorgeous...which means that they either have weather control or are very lucky. A fun way to kick off parade season.
