I am not sure how I have not reviewed this parade yet, but here we are. I liked this parade, it is the first parade the Sunday before the big day, and a morning parade. I thought the throws were plentiful, those on the floats were not too drunk and it was very nice. Not the absolute best Mardi Gras parade I have been to, but a nice start to the day. Please do not expose your chest or genetalia unless you want to visit the very elite OPP. No, this is not the OPP in the rap, this is the Orleans Parish Prison, where you will likely not get out until after Mardi Gras is over. You will miss the big day and likely miss your flight home. Do you really want to tell your boss that you missed work because you were locked up?

Generally speaking most things done during the day are less fun than if it were done at night. This holds true whether vandalizing some property, drinking, throwing a party, going to a concert, attending a sports game, etc. Okeanos is an aforementioned daytime happening that takes place too early in the morning for most locals and tourists who just went to sleep at 5-7am from partying the night before. Okeanos kicks off at 11am on the Sunday before Mardi Gras Day. It's a decent parade for the kids to catch some beads and souvenirs but it lacks the sought after signature throws that are usually thrown at the bigger night parades. If you're awake before noon on a Mardi Gras weekend check it out. If you're not no biggie as the bigger and better parades happen later on anyways.

Okeanos is just that OK. It's not really a remarkable parade and it's the first parade on a long day of many other special ones. That being said, it's a fine parade with lots of throws and enthusiastic riders.A bunch of kids around me caught decorated wine corks which are a fun unique throw. LOVE custom made items. Also the Skin & Bonez Gang is a great group that marches in Okeanos...creepy and fun!The floats aren't great but at least they weren't using the Halloween floats from Kerne like so many others. They did have Vince Vance this year and he was singing as he passed where I was watching so bonus points for that. Plus there seemed to be both men and women riders which I like. A solid start to a LONG day of parading.
