This little place is full of products and produce. I enjoyed exploring all the different products while on the hunt fir gluten free products, which they have a good bit of. A lot more than I've found in other Asian markets. There are tons of gluten free rice noodles, rice flour and other gluten free flours. The thing that surprised me the most was the different gluten free sauces I was able to find. I will say there are multiple isles with the same products so I had to go down a few different isles to find the gluten free products. They are not all in one place.

Everyone says the prices are reasonable here, but most of what they offer is almost double the price of Hong Kong market. Some things were even more expensive than the Asian market by my house in Metairie. The selection is good for the size of the place, and it seems pretty well-organized otherwise.

Kien Giang Market is a little hidden store hiding in a shopping center on Lafayette Street in Gretna. I initially was in the area to buy vegetables at Budget Saver when I stumbled across this place. I saw the sign peeking at the corner of my eye and as I approached it the Asian lettering grabbed my attention. Kien Giang specializes in Asian groceries and gifts, of which most are primarily Vietnamese. It is a fairly sized market that has enough to keep you looking for a while. When you walk in you get those unique smells of products from various countries of Asia mixed together. On the right side is a mini produce section with vegetables and fruits to choose from. On the left side is where you get everything else. Lots of caned food, various noodles, spices and sauces, drink mixes, and other items to make your meals. There is even a small area where they sell dvds and music. It was so interesting to see Korean Drama dvds on sale as well, even though the titles and language was translated to Vietnamese. So if you need to find ingredients for that special Vietnamese dish then I definitely recommend this place, but they do not offer much products for the other Asian cultures out there. Service is average, but maybe they are shy to speak English. At least you know this place is authentic!

My go to asian market, especially for meat and seasonings! The produce is fresh and you can stop in for all ingredients to any asian dishes you need to make. There's also occasionally some really good exotic or rare fruits. The owners and workers are helpful.

If, for some reason, you can't make it to Hong Kong Market, this is a nice alternative. Larger and better stocked than most of the other Asian markets, the selection is second only to Hong Kong. The prices are reasonable and they now have Latin goods. Not too bad, really. Had a hard time asking for anything as the staff either didn't speak much English or figured it was easier to pretend not to speak English.

KIEN GIANG MARKET. Kien Giang Market, don't know why "Health" appears in the name on this Yelp site. According to the owner, Kien Giang Market has been in business for about 20 years (minus 2 years after Katrina). I accidentally found this authentic Asian market tucked behind Budget Saver about a mile from the Westbank Expressway. The large market was filled with lots of Asian products, fresh produce, canned and packaged foods, etc. If you want thousand year-old duck eggs, fermented tofu, fried tofu, dried noodles, fresh noodles, Asian eggplant, fresh ginger, galangal, turmeric, curry powders, Chinese sausage, teas, canned juices, etc. go to Kien Giang Market. Prices were very reasonable.

This place is small and tucked away. Not many people know of it, so they prefer to go to the larger Hong Kong market. However, it has its loyal base. The food is fresh and has everything Asian. It also has a Latino section since the area it's located is having a booming Latino presence. It's location is convenient. You can step across to Budget Saver to get more "American" groceries or jump to Family Dollar next door to get cheap household items or get your haircut at the Beauty Salon or eat at Three Happiness Restaurant. Location is very convenient. I give this a 4 instead of a 5 because the staff there can be very aloof at times. They can be a bit nicer and appear more welcoming.
