This statue is located in the middle of the street. You can get to it easily from the cross walk. Located across from Cafe Du Monde, Near the French MarketThis is a pretty cool landmark with tons of history as do most things in NOLAEach year on January 6th, the Krewe de Jeanne d'Arc honors St. Joan and the French heritage of New Orleans with a celebration. "As the first day of the carnival season, that date suggests renewal-the awakened sprite carrying the battle flag from the dead of winter toward the light of Spring. Joan has given us hope. Once more she is called to battle." -Errol Laborde

I loved learning about Joan of Arc as a child and had to come visit this landmark. It was a little tricky to find but eventually found her not too far off from Cafe Du Monde and the beginning of the French Market. I was disappointed to see that someone had spray painted on the bottom part of the statue, so hopefully the city will clean it up.

Want to be mildly startled at night? Walk down Decatur Street at night, looking around and admiring the architecture, and suddenly see this GOLD high up on a pedestal. That's how I first saw this statue. It's beautiful to see, and be careful crossing the streets for a closer inspection.

This statue is located on a small piece of grass in the middle of a street. If you are going to go up to, I would just be careful crossing the street. The statue is nice and sits upon a tall cement pedestal. It depicts Joan riding a horse in victory while holding a banner. The pedestal is engraved with "Joan of Arc, Maid of New Orleans" and "From the People of France to the citizens of New Orleans". There are two cannons in front of the statue and a low wall around the statue that forms a very small plaza like area. The inner part of those walls have plaques listing some significant cities that are relevant to Joan's life and campaigns. The area between the walls is not very well maintained and is dirty. There are three flag poles behind the statue that are flying the American flag, the Louisiana flag and the New Orleans flag, respectively. They really look nice waving in the wind behind the golden statueFrance gifted the statue to the city in 1964. They chose Joan of Arc because of her defense of the CIty's namesake, Orléans, from the English during the Hundred Years War. The city did not unveil the statue until 1972, after spending years in storage. They claimed to not be able to afford the $36,000 price tag to erect the statue until then. You may being seeing de ja vu when you look at this statue. It is not an original piece or a one of a kind. There are 9 nearly identical ones that were cast by French artist Emmanuel Fremiet dating back as far as 1899. Some of the other statues ended up in Portland, Philadelphia, and Quebec. This is a nice statue and catches your eye from as far as Jackson Square. It is probably not a long stop and not even a destination stop. It is more of a stop on your way to somewhere else or part of a larger itinerary. Also, remember it is on a small grass island in the middle of a very bust street, so be carful crossing over to get a closer look.

No address... but I managed to figure out where it was! But then, given its location on an island between Cafe Du Monde and the French Market, it would have been hard to not just happen upon it in my French Quarters wanderings. The Joan of Arc Status was shiny gold and impressive with the four flags waving above.

The statue of Joan of Arc did not appear on public display in New Orleans until 1972, 14 years after it first arrived in the city on consignment. One of 10 copies made from the original plaster mold by Frenchman Emmanuel Fremiet, the statue's $35,000 price tag proved too much.In 1964, French President Charles de Gaulle gifted the statue to the city. He wanted to recognize the city's close ties to France. De Gaulle and the French cities of Orleans, Paris, Rouen and Rheims paid for the cost of the statue. The statue was erected at the Plaza de France and remained there for two decades until Harrah's built a casino there. The statue was moved to a pocket park in the French Quarter in 1999.The statue is identical to one that has graced Coe Circle in Portland, Oregon, since 1924. The original was erected in Paris in 1874, near where Joan was injured during her failed attempt to capture Paris. They are all spectacular.

" The Statue Is Hard To Get At "We were on Bourbon Street and we went over to see the Joan Of Arc famous statue, and saw that the statue is in a very dangerous position. There are roads on either side of the statue with very little room around the statue to take pictures. In fact on young man walked 2 steps out into the street and almost go hit by a car. I talked with employees in the stores directly around the statue, and they told me many people have been hit by cars, because their is no room around the statue. Anyway it is a very pretty and nice statue.
