I arrived on site to adopt a new pet for my family. Their website said they closed on Tuesdays at 5pm. When I arrived there doors were locked and there was a sign on the door stating that they'd be closing at 2pm today due to the expected inclement weather. The lady opened the door at 1:27pm and asked how could she help me. I stated I was there to attempt to adopt a new family pet. The lady then very rudely told me that I needed to come back another day because they would be closing in 30 minutes. I was flabbergasted! I had showed up alone and I'm not picky, as I explained to her an ideal pet would be one that stays small and is good with children. Those were my only concerns. The rude lady who I spoke with was well past retirement age and should permanently retire. Needless to say, i won't be returning. Ppl who work in shelters always seem to be in desperate need of ppl willing to adopt shelter dogs, well today I showed up and got shut down! This review is not about them closing early, but more so the way the lady talked to me. It could've been handled much better.

I just dropped off a beautiful husky there I found and the man at the counter (Alexander Davis) barely told me what to do. He didn't even tell me the process. I asked him questions and he straight ignored me and moved on to the next person after taking my license. I have never found a dog before and being a dog lover, I wanted to make sure the dog was going to be taken care of. They just took the dog and ignored me. He did not even tell me when he was done after they took him. Worst service I have ever experienced at a supposed "friendly animal shelter/ clinic".

The facility is nice as alot of the workers. But there is a old grey Haired lady that is down right rude and that is the nicest I can put it. I seen many people post about her and figured no way can they be true. Well believe me they are. I had years ago taken in a small Dog as the owner was passing away with Cancer. So I took his pup brought it to the Vet to make sure it was Healthy and then found it a awesome home so the dog wouldn't have to go to the pound. At the time I was working 80+ hours a week and didn't have time for a Dog. So doing this for a animal was somehow frowned upon with this establishment. Years later I had gotten my dog who I loved dearly and am still heartbroken over her passing from cancer. I wonder how many dogs don't go to good homes because of how these people are?

I have recently become familiar with the JPAS because one of my beloved cats went missing and I have been searching for him here (among other places). Although I have not yet located him, the staff here is extremely helpful and nice. They agreed to let me put up a flyer with his picture and my contact info and one of the women working here even agreed to be on the "lookout" for him.I'm basically writing this review in order to remind people who are looking to adopt to check the shelters first. At this shelter they have a TON of animals, especially kittens. Some of them are so teeny tiny they look as if they could fit in a pocket. They even have a room where kittens are free to walk around and you can go in and mingle with them, if you are looking to adopt. It was SO HARD for me to not leave there with a kitten. They are sooo cute. They also have puppies. They had one that looked like maybe a beagle mix and he was so small and shaky, I just wanted to pick him up and take him home. I'll admit it, I'm not exactly a tough sell.Whether you are searching for a lost pet, or you are hoping to add to your family, the JPAS is a good place to start. There are always a lot of animals who are looking for a home and would love to be a companion for years to come.

Brooke Bourgeois, her staff, and volunteers are so loving with all of the animals and so patient with all of us humans. They stand behind their animals and work hard to make a forever match for the many animals that just want to love their families. We are so grateful to Brooke for helping match our sweet cat, Luna, with our daughter Chloe. They are forever friends "fur sure".

JPAS Animal Control Officer David Lagattuta rescues Barred OwlIt's not everyday you are able to get close to wildlife or are able to witness a courageous rescue. A gorgeous Owl was located at 7:15 a.m. this morning on Lapalco Road, on the West Bank, not far from the TPC Golf Club. He sat upright, squinting his eyes, as large trucks and cars were close enough to ruffle his feathers, as they sped pass him. The owl was in obvious distress. He could fly a few feet, but quickly hit the ground. Jefferson Parish Animal Control was contacted, and Officer David Lagattutta was dispatched to the scene. Once he arrived, Officer Lagatutta quickly placed leather gloves over his hands to safely pick up the Owl, as he struggled to get free from his grip. He gently transferred the Owl to a kennel. Officer Lagattuta, with the help of Officer Victoria Clark, identified this owl as a Barred Owl. The Owl appears to have head trauma and is being transferred to Wings of Hope Wildlife Sanctuary, https://www.wingsofhoperehab.org/located in Livingston, Louisiana. Please donate to this organization to help our wildlife in Louisiana. More on the Barred Owl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf1j8nYtl24

My fiancé and I just relocated here for military purposes and a little over a week ago my fiancé found a dog in the street. He decided to take him to this place to see if he was someone's little baby. So he was told that if in 5 days he wasn't claimed he would be ours. After the 5 days we called to see if he was still available and Alex told us that he was no longer there. This past Saturday we got a phone call saying the dog was still there and if we didn't pick him up by Monday they would open adoption for him. The lady at the counter her name is Elle was a completely rude mess. Never have we EVER encountered such a nasty person. We asked if she could hold him just a few more days so that we can verify with our landlord if the breed of the dog is acceptable, she gave us until tomorrow. We just got a phone call from her saying another application was put in for the dog. This is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and she shouldn't be working the customer service counter at ALL! I'm hoping the landlord gives us the okay to bring that adorable dog home and if we do I would not want to do business with this establishment if I have to encounter with Elle.
