This is my latest update based on my recent stay during the Mardi Gras timeframe. The hotel is still a very nice place to stay, but it continues to need improvements, especially at the front desk level. For the second time in a row, I was NOT recognized as an iPrefer member at check in. It was ironic since I had just received an email from iPrefer stating my status was moved up to Gold. In addition, there are "We are an iPrefer Member" signs all along the Front Desk. Once again, I recommend the staff be properly trained in this important welcome greeting.I also did not receive my "Welcome Amenity" in my room upon arrival. I went down to the Concierge Desk to inquire about it. The gentleman apologized for the oversight and said he would take care of it right away. (Previously, I was given four chocolates and now they are down to just two in a box. Being a Gold iPrefer member seems to have lost its luster at this hotel.)The majority of rooms are quite nice, but not necessarily roomy. I had a nice Traditional King Bed room with a desk table and chair and another chair to the side. It was perfect for just me. I noticed the refrigerator was larger than my last stay in a suite room, so that was a definite improvement. The bathroom has very limited shelf space for your personal amenities, but given the age of this hotel, it is to be expected. (Recommendation-You may want to consider looking at the "Preferred" rooms on the website if there are two or more of you for additional comfort.)The hotel is beautiful, and the Carousel Bar is always a fun spot for a drink. The turn down service is a nice touch. The beds are comfortable and clean, and the bathrooms are very clean also. A Keurig coffee machine is in your room, which is also appreciated. I'm just not so sure I will select the Hotel Monteleone the next time I'm in New Orleans. After walking around the French Quarter, I noticed several other options at a more reasonable price level for Reward members (I'm Gold at several hotel chains) that I plan to consider for the future.

What a great hotel experience during our stay in NOLA. Centrally located, this hotel has everything you need if you're looking for a true NOLA experience. We stayed in the Iberville Suites which came with two beds, one sofa bed, and 1.5 bathrooms. This was comfortable enough for four girls. The staff was accommodating too. Would definitely stay here again!

The good: a beautiful, historic, charming hotel filled with warm and friendly staff. The hotel itself is gorgeous with a stunning lobby that transports you back to a forgotten time. The bars are great for drinks and the restaurant served a delicious breakfast. From the moment you walk through the door you are greeted by lovely staff taking your bags, making recommendations, directing you to the equally charming from desk staff. Room service was fast and friendly. The hospitality is perfection. The bad: dated rooms/bathroom fixtures, musty linens, and ventilation systems that need to be cleaned. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable soft. I understand this is an old hotel but I have been in hotels almost as old (I stayed at the savoy this past November that is only 3 years newer). However there was a freshness to the air, the beds were modern, the fixtures were in keeping with the period but immaculate, and you could open the windows a little bit. Overall I loved the location and the charm - you can't beat it. I longed for a good night sleep in fresh linens, in a bed that didn't sag in a room with good airflow. Easy fixes could be made to make this a true 5 star and I hope to come back soon.

An excellent choice of stay for my first visit to New Orleans. We wondered why our GPS was taking us a round about way to the hotel, but the parking garage is on a side street and with one ways, I recommend you listen to your GPS. It brought us right to where we needed to go. We were early and our room wasn't ready so we took everything we needed from our car and had it valet parked and stored our luggage with the hotel and headed out to explore NOLA. From parking our car to checking out, the staff was top notch. Very friendly, chatting about where we were from, helping me mail some postcards, directing to restroom, and bringing drinks in the bar - absolutely everyone we encountered went over and above in being hospitable. Our room was quite lovely. We were on the 11 floor with a view of the river. On occasion I could hear a train or siren but overall it was wonderfully quiet for sleeping. Bed and pillows sucked you in to a relaxing cocoon of sleep. Thick curtains kept it dark. Towels were plush. We headed to the bar to enjoy live music after dinner. Talented musicians played blues and jazz. Well worth the stop. The carousel bar was packed so we didn't worry about getting a ride on a stool of the spinning bar but we did get front row seats for the music. So glad we chose Hotel Monteleone.

I haven't stayed here formally, but I guess parking my butt at the Carousel Bar for a few hours counts a bit. This is a boutique hotel right in the thick of things in the French Quarter. What makes this 5 star is everyone we interacted with was super friendly and helpful. Just a great place to hang out and I may think about staying here on a future visit!

We stayed 1 night at Hotel Monteleone. The entrance to parking was behind the hotel on another street, not Royal St, so don't get worried if the street is blocked off for pedestrian use. We just continued driving past Royal and made an alternative few turns and it was painless with a large sign showing you where to enter to park.Staff were welcoming and friendly! We were able to check in at 2pm since our room was ready. Otherwise, check-in is 4pm. They also email with options for guaranteed check in early for additional costs. I opted out of that. We checked in and then began to explore! It's a great location in the French Quarter. It is located near but off Bourbon Street (that area is always so loud and obnoxious at night). You can quickly get to Bourbon St. and Jackson Square. The room was comfortable and large enough for the 3 of us in my family. We had 2 beds (not sure if full or queen). We were on the 14th floor and we could faintly hear the debauchery on Bourbon but it was not enough to wake us up or bother us. Only 1 of the 2 elevators worked but there was rarely a wait for the elevator even at check-in/check-out time. Our water pressure in the shower was fantastic! The Carousel Bar seemed very fun but we did not go due to having a child with us. It did stay busy even when it first opened so it seems to be full most all the time! We would definitely stay here again if we are in the French Quarter!

Love this hotel!! This will forever be our place to stay when visiting New Orleans!! The staff members are soooo nice, and helpful. The security is on top of it, and the greeter in the front is on top of safety, taxis, and everything! The showers have nice hot water, the rooms are super cute and comfy, and everything feels like luxury. The bar downstairs is super cool too but you definitely should make reservations for the carousel bar! It fills up!!The hotel is also VERY walkable to EVERYTHING!! The location is amazing. I'd recommend this hotel to everyone!!

Very nice hotel to be sure, but like the old adage ... it all depends what you were looking for. This is an unapologetically old-fashioned hotel with a history dating back to the 1880s. Now while it has been updated repeatedly over the years, you won't mistake this for a more-recent Four Seasons hotel. The rooms we had were immaculate, a bit on the small side but very clean. Beds and linen were soft and spotless. The bathroom was also immaculate but pretty small. Unlike bathrooms in newer hotels, there just wasn't much room for your stuff ... like counter space for your ditty bag and shaving gear. Bathroom amenities were Gilchrist & Soames ... very nice. All the hot water you needed, and good pressure to boot. In room dining was nice and quick, the only downside was a chip in the glass of milk we ordered. We mentioned it depends on what you were looking for ... and by that we mean location. This hotel is on Royal Street just off Bourbon street and the heart of the French Quarter. You'll be hard pressed to find a better location. All the sights and sounds and fun stuff of the Quarter are right outside your door. When you get here, park your car ($50 per day) and you'll probably never take it out. You can walk to Brennan's, Antoine's, Jackson Square, etc. Great location goes a long way in making up for size of rooms and the like. Of course, you could also reserve a suite, if you're in that situation. This hotel also has the Carousel bar, a neat to be experienced place. Absolutely top service all around, from the doorman to the front desk and more. In sum, a very nice hotel in the heart of the French Quarter ... stay here some day.

My wife and I had a great experience at Hotel Monteleone. The staff seemed to be everywhere and were helpful, very friendly and courteous. We booked a traditional room with a king bed on the Bienville tower side. The bed was comfortable and the room overall was small, but just right for two people. The bathroom was very small and simple with a tub/shower. Sounds simple, but the room had a great shower head. Our friends stayed in the Iberville tower and their room looked similar, but had more room and was more modern/updated.The rooftop pool and bar was a good time. The pool was wider and about the same length as one found in a typical backyard. My friends utilized the exercise room near the pool and said the room was small, but they had a great workout and enjoyed the view of the Mississippi. We ventured to the Carousel bar a couple of times to have some drinks on the carousel and in the lounge area next to it. The carousel is not very big and a tad touristy, but still a cool photo keepsake and place to say you had a drink. I enjoyed the Sazarac and my wife the Espresso Martinis. The gift shop had decent souvenirs, but the prices were high. There are a ton of local shops nearby.I think the location of the hotel was great. You're one block from Bourbon and the noise difference was night and day. You still get some late night music and loud noises, but for the most part it was minimal. We were on the 8th floor. There's a Walgreen's next door on Iberville so your covered there. 25 minute walk to the Superdome, 10 minute walk from Jackson Square, same to Caesars Casino. We never felt unsafe, the streets were cleaned every morning and the sidewalks are power washed too. I'd look to book in advance, some travel sites had great prices on a room. Friends who tried to book much later told me the prices jumped quite a bit. You really can't go wrong staying at Hotel Monteleone. Thanks guys and we hope to be back one day!

This was the best hotel we stayed at when in New Orleans and we stayed at multiple. Not only is the service top notch (seriously every time we called needing something they were there so fast and their uniforms are so cute, darling, the absolute best). The hotel lobby is so beautiful and the restaurant is beautiful as well as it serves good food. Especially in the morning for breakfast when they had their beignets with their praline sauce! It was so good! This is also home to the famous Carousel Bar which goes round and round and serves great cocktails and they also have jazz bands play on the weekends which are really good. Rooms are quant and bathrooms are a decent size. Anytime you need more water they give you as much as you want. Next time I am in New Orleans I am definitely staying here again.
