Warning to Keratin Treatment Users I have been getting Keratin Treatments in my hair for over 5 years (one time per year) and am always happy with the outcome. Recently I decided to try Hot Locks Studio on Lapalco Blvd. in Marrero. I called prior to going in and spoke to Stephanie Bauman Cardon and was told I would have to come in for her to look at the length of my hair and quote me a price. After speaking with Stephanie I set up my appt for 12/26/17. Upon leaving the salon after my Keratin Treatment my hair look like it normally does during my three day waiting period to wash my hair. Well Friday finally came, I washed my hair and to my surprise the back of my hair looked totally dried and was breaking off when I combed it. Needless to say I was horrified. I immediately texted Stephanie Cardon (the hairdresser) and also sent her pictures of what my hair looked like and asked for any suggestions. She told me to apply Argon Oil and set my flat iron higher. I did not do that since common sense told me putting an extremely hot flat iron on damaged hair would make it worse. I continued to text and Stephanie said I must have done something wrong and became defensive. I assured her I was not blaming her I was just trying to get answers since I am not new to the treatments, just new to the damage. She asked me to come in and we could go over the process I do with my hair. I was asked to bring my products with me. As I said I've have been getting these treatments for years and I know you need a leave in condition and barely have to flat iron it, but I decided to go to the shop as she suggested. Upon arriving at the shop we did not speak about my hair, we talked about the New Year weekend she had with her boyfriend, she was not interested in looking at my products she just wanted to use hers. Stephanie even went as far as to tell me what type of brush I should be using, that's bull, no certain brush is needed. Stephanie took me straight to the shampoo bowl, washed my hair with her products and then I asked her to cut the damaged hair off (which she charged me for cut). After the cut she added approximately four different styling products which should not be needed with a Keratin Treatment. One product she used was "Simply Smooth Calming Balm" which Stephanie Cardon told just holds the hair in place and good for fly aways. She proceeded to blow dry my hair and again used a flat iron at 450 degrees taking 1/2 inch section over my entire head. Well, care to guess what that did? Of course it burned my hair even more, but I could not tell because I found out after I left, the Calming Balm is actually a one day Keratin Treatment, so what Stephanie did was camouflage the damage to my hair. A couple days later when I found this out and again saw even more damage to my hair, I asked her very nicely for a refund because my hair was damaged even more. She refused to discuss refund and continually tried to cover up what she did. Stephanie proceeded to tell me she was surprised to hear this (really I texted her and sent pics) and she just wanted to defend herself instead of offering solutions and I was still not blaming her. Stephanie said and I quote "you are not going to convince me your hair is fried". Finally I saw that I was getting no where with her because she kept insisting my hair looked beautiful and she had never had a complaint. In business for 30 years and never a complaint, OK! I said I would speak with the owner since Stephanie just wanted to defend herself. She then told me she was the owner, that is a 100% lie, Craig owns that shop and she knows it. When I told her fine, do what you have to do, but remember I am your walking billboard and I'm done texting Stephanie said I should call her and stop all the name calling and anger. In all the texts that were sent I NEVER resorted to name calling only trying to get my point across. All I wanted was a resolution, all Stephanie Cardon wanted was a excuse for herself. Stephanie is unaware that although I do not practice cosmetology I am a graduate of John Jay School of Cosmetology. I can only imagine what Stephanie Cardon says to other clients that are not familiar with hair. Please take my warning and stay away from Stephanie Bauman Cardon at Hot Locks Studio on Laplaco Blvd, in Marrero. I'm going to try to add the photos I sent to Stephanie Cardon so you can see what she calls beautiful to cover her butt. Only reason for one star is b/c yelp doesn't let you leave it blank. Steer clear of Stephanie Bauman Cardon.
