What an amazing spot! I came on a Friday evening for a talk entitled "Visible Passes" about the different types of things you can see in the sky aside from constellations. Everyone was very friendly. The guy who gave the talk was very informative and passionate about astronomy.

No lights, no cameras, but look up in the sky to check out the action! Get educated on what goes on way above our heads in our giant sky. Learn a bit of physics and astronomy. Kids love it because there is so much space to spread their wings and gear up knowledge of the stars, the moon and the planets. My daughter did a camp there during the summer and she got to launch a rocket at the end of the week. It's a wonderful place for family activities and a great way to educate the community. Come on over and check out the stars and planets through the giant telescope at the Highland Observatory.

BREC's Highland Road Park Observatory offers fun, family-friendly and free Friday night sky viewings and lectures (from LSU physics and astronomy professors and graduate students). I've been twice now and have always had a very pleasant time. The lectures start around 7 and are then followed immediately by the sky viewing. Each week the lectures focus on a different topic so check out their website for topics. They also have coffee available (which makes the whole experience very quaint). They also host a multitude of summer day camps and Saturday afternoon activities for kids but I don't know much about those since I don't have children. For pictures and more information, check out my blog post about my visit to the observatory here: http://fleur-de-life.blogspot.com/2012/10/things-to-do-in-baton-rouge-highland.html

This place is super cool. We went by for the sky viewing. The people are very polite and helpful. We got to see saturn and 5 moons, it's amazing how clear the view was. I'd highly recommend this.

My boyfriend and I went a couple of years ago and had a lovely times. The place is small but intimate, the lecture was interesting, and I loved looking through the telescope. We also made great conversation with the man behind the counter and his dog Henry. I hope they're doing well!
