5 stars for Glen, the house and the location. We stayed in the suite upstairs and had an entire porch to ourselves overlooking lovely Esplanade Ridge under a huge tree. I love staying in this neighborhood. I can walk to City Park, the French Quarter, Treme, the racetrack, and about anywhere in town. House is beautifully decorated with antiques and period furnishings. It creeks, floors are uneven, windows are large, and this is how we like it in New Orleans. Beautiful pool and courtyard out back which I regret not using out of sheer forgetfulness. Glen is so nice and warm and welcoming and helpful and everything an innkeeper should be. I never experienced his breakfasts because I either slept in or was too full from my prior evening's New Orleans meal to even think about eating again. Had to work a little and WiFi worked great throughout the suite. Appreciated the little things like bottled water downstairs and a cool collection of books.

What a great experience I and my partner had at the HH Whitney. It's just close enough to all the action but in a nice quiet neighborhood. Glenn the inn keeper made us feel at home and had great suggestions on what to do and where to go. I celebrated my birthday while there and they got a small cake and candle for me. The house itself is beautiful and our room was large with a super comfy bed. The pool outback was a nice extra. The breakfast in the morning was delicious, relaxed, and it was fun getting to know the other guests.

Stayed at the HH Whitney 7 days and loved it! It has a very old charm and it's close to the French Quarter, Freshman street and Bourbon as well.Glenn was very nice, although we were out all the time so we weren't demanding LOL. We did not do breakfast because of all those late nights but you have it from 8.30 to 9.30 every day, also for New Year's we had a bottle of Champagne waiting for us, complimentary from HH. Do don't expect a new building with with perfect isolation, this is a 200 year old house and you can literally hear it breathe, but if you want to feel the real NOLA that is what you need to embrace. The house was very clean as well. My favorite part of the vacation was, sitting at the porch at 3 AM with pizza and beer..and that is something a 5* hotel does not offer.

This was our first time to the "Big Easy", and to the HH Whitney House. I read great reviews when I booked our trip in March, and frankly I'm surprised the reviews were so positive. Don't get me wrong, we had a great time in New Orleans, and enjoyed the house and our room to the fullest. There are just some things that the owners could do to draw in some repeat business.Firstly, Glen (the innkeeper) was generally apathetic about having guests, and frankly seemed annoyed to have people in the house. He has been doing this for 15+ years, and I think it shows. I sensed a bit of an attitude throughout our stay and when I asked him a question about the pool he got annoyed and waved me away - there are no lights in the backyard by the way, so night swim at your own risk. He was helpful in providing a map of the city, along with certain destinations/restaurants that he recommended. He was fairly friendly up until he collected payment, but then seemed passive aggressive. We saw very little of his partner, Randy, but our brief interactions with him were very pleasant. Our room (Garden Suite) was decent, but much like the rest of the house was a little dated and could use some TLC. To echo some similar reviews, the shower pressure was inconsistent and there is no bathroom door. We made it work. There is a nice TV in the room, and plenty of space to spread out. The door and lock for the room were original to the house (I assume), so it took a little finagling to shut and lock the door. We locked it at night, but were able to keep it unlocked while we were out during the day - no issues with that. The balcony of the room was nice to have, and overlooked the pool and the backyard. However, it was in fairly significant disrepair - Glen said he "had a guy coming next week" to look at it, but I sensed that might have been the story for a while now. The kitchen and common areas were pretty cluttered. There was always snacks, water, drinks available in the kitchen for guests. We filled our water bottles daily before we left. Daily breakfast was decent, but nothing to write home about. The dining room is a little dusty and has holes in walls/ceiling. The walk to the French Quarter is about 25 minutes, and in August I cannot imagine very pleasant. We took Uber everywhere we went, and could get to the FQ and Canal Street for $7-9. Overall, my impressions and memories of the Whitney House are fond, but that is due in small part to the atmosphere that exists there. I have always enjoyed B&B's, but when the innkeeper seems like he doesn't like you, it might not be a bad idea to consider a nicer hotel closer to the action.

We've stayed at the HH Whitney House twice (3 years apart). Our first experience was magical. Glenn greeted us when we arrived, told us all about New Orleans, & presented us with a map that included several suggestions. We had such a great time, we invited a few friends back for our second experience. The house is about a 20 min walk to the French Quarter but we also had an easy time catching a cab right in front of the house or crossing the street for the bus. We've stayed in the Scarlet O'Hara Room and the Grooms Room. We enjoyed both though we found the Scarlet O'Hara room to be a little more private (the Groom's Room has a connecting pocket door to the Bride's Room). The house is quiet & comfortable too. Glen & his staff also made special accommodations for our diets for breakfasts. We hope to be back soon!

I had another great stay here last week. I was originally booked into the Bride's Room but was moved to the Scarlett O'Hara room near the back stairs and it meant having a private bathroom instead of a shared one. However, it also means going downstairs to use it. Fortunately my knees aren't so creaky that it's difficult but the stairs are rather steep. The room is comfortable but doesn't have a table for laptop use unless you count the nightstand by the bed. Staying in a room surrounded by images of Vivian Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara, I couldn't help but think of her making a dress out of curtains every time I looked at the windows.During my stay, I made extensive use of the 91 bus that runs on Espanade as a starting point for exploring the city because walking to the French Quarter may be good exercise but is also tiring and time-consuming if you do it a few times a day. I always meet nice people staying here and often they are repeat HH Whitney guests. We often discuss New Orleans activities and restaurants over breakfast and it's fun sharing ideas with other guests. Glen is always friendly and gracious so it makes every stay pleasant. I only wish the weather had been warmer during my stay as it would have been good to try the hot tub if it weren't too cold to want to walk outside from the back door and back to the hot tub.

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay at the HH Whitney House this last weekend. We were lucky to reserve the Garden Suite upstairs at the rear of the house. The room included a private in-room bathroom with shower, dressing area, and an awesome balcony with a couple of sitting areas over looking the pool and hot tub. And yes, we took advantage of the hot-tub on our first night and after spending the evening in the Garden District. The room included all your standard amenities like cable and internet access. The house was beautifully decorated with period antiques and had a fabulous living room salon and dining room. The Dining room was the focal point as the friendly and caring inn keeper, Glen Miller, prepared excellent hot breakfasts every morning. The location was perfect. The next morning we walk about 8 blocks to the edge of the French Quarter where we spent the afternoon. During the evening we took taxis to the Garden District on Friday night, and to Frenchmen St on Saturday night. In the Garden district, we had dinner at Commander's Palace, drinks at the Columns Hotel, then walked to the Delachaise Wine Bar a couple of blocks down the street. At the Delachaise Wine Bar we sat outside on the patio and were entertained by the trolleys on St. Charles Ave.Saturday Night we had dinner at Snug Harbor on Frenchmen St., danced at Bamboules at couple of doors down, then walked to Bourban street for a nightcap. What happenes in New Orleans, stays in New Orleans! :~)We would definitely stay here again.

Our stay at HH Whitney House was delightful! Glenn, our host, was gracious, kind and helpful. Not to mention the full breakfast and great coffee he provided every morning - we were there for a week. We enjoyed meeting other guests at breakfast. Glenn gave us recommendations on activities, restaurants and sites in New Orleans and made us feel at home. The historic 19th century character home gives the feeling of what it must have been like to live in the old New Orleans. In addition, there is the lovely backyard area with pool and hot tub.The location of HH Whitney House is a central and close to public transportation, bus#91. Although we rented a car, public transportation is easy and inexpensive to the French Quarter. All in all it was a lovely place to vacation in New Orleans.
