If you're looking b for a fun birthday dinner place, I recommend Habaneros. Newly opened in Mandeville. The restaurant is beautiful, spacious and clean. We had a birthday brunch and started with the Bottle Service mimosas with fresh guava juice. We started with the Esquite Bombs, queso and a special ceviche for appetizers. All were really good but the queso was too thin. For entrees we had the chicken and waffles which is always a good choice although I was t crazy about the thin fried chicken; and steak and eggs. Both were good and very fresh and hot. I really enjoyed the Sparkling margarita which was a large frozen margarita topped with a small bottle of champagne. We brought a birthday cake and they came out with a sparkler in it and a free birthday shot for my friend. They sang and had fun with us. Such a wonderful experience. I'm looking forward to going back.

Ah, new restaurants are always interesting! Ok, so this is a new location, not a new restaurant, but it's close to home, so we checked it out.First impression is the place is well appointed and very pretty. There were some heaters in the vestibule to keep customers comfy on the cold, but no one was outside. We got here late on a Saturday, but there was a 40 minute wait for a table. Luckily, there were two spots at the bar!By the time we got situated, the thumping of the Saturday night bass was banging in our ears. No big deal, it's late on a Saturday, but it was still a lot for us old people. Just something to keep in mind depending on your mood. :) We powered through, though, and it was totally worth it.Petunia: wanna share something? Me: sure, what ya thinking' about?Petunia: enchiladas!Me: then no. The upside to Mexican inspired cuisine is I usually get my own plate - she is as much a fan of enchiladas as I am not, so it works out perfectly. ;)I got the tacos - Playeros, to be exact. Shrimp, bacon, cream cheese stuffed jalapeno, esabeche and chipotle mayo. A jalapeno popper taco with shrimp??? Sign me up! I was too excited to remember I prefer flour tortillas, so they came on corn...but these were excellent tortillas and really added a nice extra layer of flavor to the dish. I wasn't expecting them to be so good. I mean, I expected good, but these were like explosions of deliciousness in my mouth. I shouted, "OMGOSH?" Luckily, the music was so loud no one heard me, but I'm sure the look on my face made SOMEBODY say, "I'll have what he's having."So should you. What a delicious, wonderful, terrific taco - the flavors - briny shrimp, smoky bacon, the creaminess of the jalapeno and all the pieces made a whole that was definitely greater than the sum of the parts. The tortilla soup was good, the salsa for the chips was spicy and perfect, and the whole meal was very, very nice.Petunia enjoyed her enchiladas, which came with a grilled chicken breast. I had to taste it - let me say this was the most delicious grilled chicken breast I have ever had, and I like to grill chicken! It truly was perfectly done and the grill flavor was just amazing. If you haven't decided I liked the meal, lemme just say I absolutely did...get in here and get some tacos to share, you're gonna be glad you did.

We have been eating at Habernero's since the first one opened and must say that this location blew us away. We used to eat at the restaurant that was here before Habanero's and the transformation of the space is amazing. I would describe this place as Boujee Mex. I felt like I was at a high end hotel. The menu was consistent with the other locations, but everything seemed to taste better. The only issue we had was the house margaritas were very weak, to the point that my wife and I really think they forgot to put alcohol in the batch. So my advice is to stick with the premium alcohol selections as they have much more alcohol in them. The cucumber mint margarita was very good. Everything we ordered was excellent and the service is very good. The gentleman that was always at the Covington location was there and he is incredible. We will be back very soon.

We've eaten @ both the Hwy.21 and the business 190 locations numerous times. The food was always better at the one on Hwy.21. We decided to go to the new location on Hwy.22 ( it's close to our home and it was a rainy night). We both ordered the Chile Releno dinner and agreed that it was very good. Service was okay and pricing was good. The restaurant is lovely but it's obvious that they hope to attract a young bar crowd. The music was an obnoxious techno beat played much too loudly for a dinner experience. We might try for lunch and see if that's more conducive to the enjoyment of one's food and conversation.

We always find the menu interesting, and -- usually -- the food is good. This week, not so great. Enchiladas Suizas were bizarre... strange quesadillas with a piece of grilled chicken. The beef cheek was all fat, served with cold potatoes. The music is always annoying, very loud and throbbing. Not our favorite night at Habanero's.

We walked in at 8:05 on Sunday night. We chose to sit at the bar. The first thing the bartender said was we close at 9, no greeting. The place was nicely decked but the music was loud bass heavy disco sounding stuff. We ordered a sampler appetizer. It looked and tasted like it all came out of a box. I suppose should've ordered something else but we just paid and left. We will try again for lunch because we have had decent experience at the other Habaneros locations

We looked forward to this opening but were completely disappointed. I give it one star because they really did a good job in design/decorating and creating an upscale ambiance. When you walk in, you know that this isn't your typical Mexican restaurant. You're bracing for the prices. Our waitress couldn't speak English well enough for us to communicate effectively, which was a little frustrating. They didn't have Diet Coke -- only Diet Pepsi, which I won't drink. I ordered Chicken Fajitas, which were tasteless -- no salt, no flavor whatsoever. Smallest tortillas I have ever seen. Couldn't fit anything on them. My fiancé ordered Chili Relleno and said it was absolutely the worst meal he's ever had in a Mexican restaurant (and he's from Houston and has eaten in many restaurants). Drinks were $14 or $15 each, so we passed on them. The music was irritating and more suited for a nightclub (same club beat, on and on and on and on). But we weren't in a nightclub. We also didn't like the bench seating, where the tables are lined up in a row with one bench seat. The tables are only inches apart. If you like eating with strangers basically at your table hearing everything you say, then this is for you. The place is very attractively designed, but expensive, and the food is not good. Sad to say there's no way we're going back. I'll be surprised if it's still open a year from now.
