Only in the New Orleans area are you going to find a playground right across the street from a cemetery. Talk about your circle of life.Anyway, this is one of the better playgrounds on the Westbank. I think it's pretty new: put up within the last three years or so. I actually found myself here when a friend's kids were looking for a place to play and they seemed to enjoy it. It has all the basic type of playground fun such as swings and things to climb on. The equipment is well maintained and, as Jeremy mentioned, there is rubber matting around the equipment so that the precious angels don't hurt themselves. SIde note: do y'all remember when we were kids and our equipment was either on dirt or concrete? If you acted up and got a skinned knee, you knew not to do that again. And don't get me started on those metal slides that would bake in the sun all day to a nice 200 degrees that you then had to slide down in shorts. No but seriously, the rubber is probably a good idea. There is also some nice green space out there, if you just want to sit and hang out while your kids play. This is a really nice addition to an otherwise quiet part of Huey P. Long Avenue.

This new playground is a great little place for kids in Gretna to play to their little hearts' content. There are three separate play structures- two for preschoolers and toddlers and one for ages 5-12- as well as a set of swings, a seesaw and the safest merry go round you will ever see in your entire life (I'm serious- the thing is a single piece of plastic like a giant bowl with molded seats- nothing to get caught on or anything.) Because all of the playground equipment is brand new, it's in great shape. The ground material in the playground area is soft wood chips- watch out if you have a thrower (we have to tell our munchkin to not throw the wood chips every once in a while- it's apparently really, really tempting)There's lots of room for kids to run around and burn off excess energy, and there are benches for parents to sit and chill while watching the kids go wild. There's an art thingy recently added- made by local school kids- at the side of the park, so yay! for extra visual interest! The biggest disadvantage is a lack of shade- so during hot summer days it's not a good idea to head to the playground. Go in the mornings or late evenings in summer and save the afternoon trips to Gretna Heritage Playground for the cooler months of the year.

This was my first time visiting this playground, and I can honestly say that I enjoyed it (almost as much as my kids). There's a lot of choices for the kids to choose from, such as monkey bars, swing, seesaw, merry go round, swings, etc. There's three separate play areas for different age groups, and they're close together instead of being on opposite sides of the park. I always had a problem with some parks separating the toddler and big kid play area, because some parents have children in different age groups. The only thing I didn't like is that there isn't any picnic tables around. However, there's a lot of open grass area if you wanted to bring a blanket and lawn chair. Overall, I think it's one of the best playgrounds on the Westbank.

Its a playground. The rubber floors are covered in mulch so the kids know the pain of falling and getting splinters. The plastic playground equipment is dark in color and has very little shade so that little legs can feel the sweet sting of Louisiana summer upon them as they squeak down the slide and blister in enjoyment.I am not really that overbearing, I had a rusty swingset with monkey bars when I was a kid and only got 5 concussions and I turned out fine. My nephew really likes this place and there is always people there so it is definitely needed here.
