Smaller market but in December it's an old school craft market! I purchased mustard greens, a piece of art and some ornaments when I was there on Saturday. There were also prepared foods and wooden toys and all sorts of things available.I was also tempted to buy an afghan, custom cutting boards, pork skins (for my parents), and spiced nuts. I was able to find street parking nearby without a problem. Some vendors were cash only and others accepted e-payments. My guess is some might accept checks as well.

Tonight was the inauguration of hopefully an annual event, the Asian Pacific Foodie Night sponsored by NOLA Nite Market. Malaysian, Indian, Vietnamese, and Thai food trucks and stations scattered about. It was well attended with throngs of people looking for great food and drinks.I opted for an Indian cuisine tent featuring food from Thali Llama. Owner and Chef Tyler Stuart had a great dish called baingan bharta. Smoky, spicy eggplant roasted with spices and topped with pomegranate seeds. Accompaning this was naan straight out of the skillet. Topped with black sesame seeds. Both were amazing. I hope Thali Llama finds a permanent home where we can get great food like this all the time.

This is such a cute little setup! I recently visited for the first time today. They have about 20 vendors I would say and there is so much to choose from. They have boudin, Thai food, snowballs, pepper jelly, Mexican breakfast tacos, brisket, cakes, cookies, fudge, painting, flowers, fruit, crepes, lotions. It's such a great variation and it is every Saturday I believe. The only bad thing about Gretna is that everywhere around there is pay to park like New Orleans. Other than that I can get over it. The market is opened till about 12:00-12:30. We got there about 10:30 and it was a good crowd but not too packed. I ended up getting some lemon poppyseed cake, a crepe and some strawberry pepper jelly. It was a hot day in May but the overhang there def helps somewhat with the heat. I will def be back ! If you haven't been and are into farmers market you should def give them a chance! It won't hurt

Every Saturday morning under the old railroad cover and in the middle of the quaint old downtown buildings, Gretna hosts a friendly neighborhood farmers market. I'm serious - it's a relaxed, social, welcoming neighborhood activity. There's always fresh fruits and vegetables, a knife and scissors sharpening station to get a professional edge on your good knives, plants and trees for your yard or garden, fresh bakery goods, barbeque, preserves, honey, and fruit wines. I'm especially a fan of the fruit wines - I got blackberry today, but I'm going to make sure to get a couple of cases of the Cranberry wine well before the holiday season this year, because it's very popular and he runs out. The same guy that sells the fruit wine also sells delicious sausage and cheeses. There's also a local musician providing music to shop and socialize by. Once a month, they also have an art market, and also once a month local kids perform music. And it's dog friendly!

My neighbor mentioned this as something I had to see and it was worth the trip. Starving, I found the nearest vendor selling Tamale Balls (yeah, who knew, right?) which were meatballs with tamale spices and in a tamale sauce, $4 for a half dozen - excellent, but spicy breakfast. Then I found the lady selling the breakfast burritos and scarfed down a chorizo and egg burrito. There were 4-5 vegetable vendors with tomatoes, okra, 5 kinds of eggplant, peaches, plums, watermelons, blueberries and other local fruit and veggies. Other vendors included: - 1 local wine producer - A couple ladies selling baked goods - 1 selling home made candy - 1 selling prepared spices and mixes for Cajun foods (BBQ Shrimp spices, shrimp creole, etc), - One stand selling BBQ: Brisket, pulled pork, boudain, ribs, chicken, etc. I got a half lb of brisket, a rack of ribs, and a few boudain links for $26. Home made BBQ sauce. - A couple ladies selling prepared food like the tamale balls, tamales, burritos, etc. - A couple vendors selling potted plants- One guy selling "Gretna Farmer's Market" T-Shirts.What I'd like to see: - Seafood (shrimp, oysters, crab, etc) - Flowers (boquets or cut)- Cold drinks (cold bottled water in July would sell pretty well, I'd guess), and coffee in the winter. Notes: - Cash only - Starts at 8:30, none of them were set up much earlier. - Easy parking

Phenomenal market. Every bit as nice as those on the East Bank, except that it always has an INCREDIBLE meat selection.Came home today with 1 lb. of pulled pork, 1 lb. of bbq brisket, 2 links of hot smoked boudin, 2 huge bags of vegetables, sides to go with the BBQ, and more for about $40.00. We'll have enough to feed 4 adults coming by the house tonight and I didn't do much to put it all together.Vegetables we got include zucchini, yellow zucchini, red onion, butter lettuce, arugala, cherry tomatoes, eggplant, bell pepper, etc.MUST TRY: The best feature of this market is one of the most easily missed and unassuming! There is a hispanic lady who has a booth of vegetables, salsas, corn chips, HOT and fresh breakfast burritos (excellent), and BEST OF ALL - a drink she makes that varies in flavor with each week. She's had watermelon, cucumber (was surprisingly great), strawberry, etc. This stuff is SO MUCH BETTER than anything I've ever had from a bottle. It sits in a large 5 gallon glass jug on her table each week. You MUST try it, then fight yourself not to have two.I have no idea what it's called, but it's remarkable... and so is this market. The levee is a short walk from the market and makes for a great place to walk or bike before going to the market.Pets are welcome, but bring your own water bowls/water for them (it's hot out there).

Per Jessica's request...I'm elaborating on my previous review :) (I'm new...so bare with me ;)The Farmers market is held only on Saturday morning's from 8:30-10:30am under the open pavillion on Huey P Long Avenue. There are various merchants selling brisket, snowballs, crawfish bread, etc... (I could go on all day about the food) I also spotted "MetryChick" out there one day with her cute designs. It's different everytime you go. So much fun and a great way to start your weekend!

A fantastic open air market where you can get everything from veggies to (on the Second Saturday of the month) arts and crafts. This has become a sort of Satuday morning tradition. The vegetables are home grown by local farmers, fresh and delicious. You can also get farm fresh eggs and corn meal. They have dried okra, if you are in the mood for a crunchy snack. They also have homemade honey and hot dishes such as crawfish bread.A local performer provides musical entertainment while you shop around and all of the vendors are extremely friendly.

what a disappointment. thought there would be fresh produce but only one vendor, corn was old, hard and inedible, tomatoes edible but little taste, I may not even try the butternut squash and just chalk it up to a bad experience. I will not go back. unfortunate since it is close by. I've gotten better produce in the grocery stores. I didn't try any of the food trucks so can't comment but I was disappointed overall.
