I really enjoyed the New Orleans Greek Festival this year and the other year I attended (I forget when that was.) The 5k has been moved to Saturday morning, but I couldn't swing it this year. Lots of runners did stay for the day afterward, sporting their medals! It was really easy to order my ticket online to skip the lines. They have parking about a half a mile away and there are shuttles that run about every 15 minutes to bring you if you don't want to walk along the bayou. Be ready for the heat. There just isn't a lot of shade in the area, and you are going to sweat. We witnessed an older lady being taken in an ambulance, so hydrate and get out the sun when you can. Upon arrival, we headed and grabbed some drinks and some of the Greek appetizers. i did not realize there was a whole gym filled with food inside, and I would have waited to order inside and get a more filling option if I had. They also had the pastries to go, a box of goodness. We bought a few Greek staples in the little indoor shopping area, and we did the cathedral tour. It was nice to learn the history, and the music was lovely. Plus, you were out of the heat for about an hour. I wish there were more frequent shows of the dancers because we couldn't do the tour and see them on our schedule. There was also a cooking demo tucked in the lobby of the church area that I didn't realize was happening. The staff and volunteers were amazing, and I was happy to tip and contribute to the church. Leaving a was a little less easy than arriving and some of my fellow festers were a bit testy, no fault to the event though. I wish I would have been able to get some more food items, but the lines and the heat just drove me to the shade I could find. I do love this festival, and I cannot wait for a future return.

I LOVE Greek Fest and I go every year. I do the race on Friday night and you get free beers, a t-shirt, and free entry for the entire weekend for the price of your race entry which ends up being a great deal. I love the food, the music and most of all the fun people that are enjoying themselves to the maximum here. This is a great family event with activities for all ages. Beer, Wine, liquor are all in abundant supply and the pastries are decadently delicious so it is definitely a must do on the festival schedule. Friday night has always been the most fun for me but I go all three days!My video review of Greek Fest is here:https://youtu.be/tYPpHEbsmhk

Definitely one of my favorite festivals. I don't think I skipped it in last 6-7 years. It is a family oriented event at a Greek Orthodox Church in Lakeview. You can buy tickets online and also at the door. I remember the days when cover was $5 per person. Now it is $8, which is still pretty good. On Sunday you can walk in free of charge if you are wearing a toga. There is plenty of food, drinks, music, dancing, performances. You can go inside the church and get a combo. They also have foods and drinks available outside. This year they started accepting credit cards, which really boosted their sales, as I talked to one of their regular volunteers. They, of course, still accept cash. ATM machines are all over the place. As this is mostly an outside event, wear comfortable shoes, bring sunglasses, sunscreen, hat etc. and have fun!

For about three years, I lived a block from this festival. The festival is usually the last weekend of May. On Friday, they have a race, so streets are blocked off. Sundays are free admission if you wear a toga. Last year, admission was $7, which I think is a bit high. Parking is a pain to say the least. I know of parking for festival go-ers with shuttles, but that is largely ignored. The food is pretty darn awesome. Baklava, strong drinks, drinks with no spirits, fries, gyros, lamb, and the whole thing. Live music, activities for kids, a tour of the cathedral. All sorts of things. So why only 3 stars? Well, the people who come are just rude. Downright unpleasant in some cases. I went two years in a row, but it's just not my bag. Too many people crowded into a space that is too small and no room to move. The festival goers here do not pay attention to what is going on, will walk right in front of you while walking, one kid looked me in the eye, deliberately poured his soda on my shoe and then ran away laughing. Classy. The only reason why there are gender neutral restrooms is because they are port-a-johns. Bring cash! The ATM fees are exorbitant, and no cards are accepted.

What is there do do at Greek Fest ?Paid 16 bucks to enter for a couple.Well:Opportunity to purchase posters t shirts and trinkets at the annual celebration of things Greek held at Hellenic centre on r e Lee Blvd. We had those from other years, so just looked.Big collection of Greek home made pastries for sale, we took home a box for family members who didn't come to Greek Fest this year, checked out the few food stalls selling Greek delicacies the most impressive of which was spit roasted lamb slow cooking... over hot coals.Seemed like fewer food choices than other years was a comment I overheard.Spent an hour on site enjoyed music with an ethnic flavour, watched some kids in ethnic costumes dancing on the little stage.Parking on the street was far and away, meant we had a nice walk through the park to and fro.
