Gourmet Girls

I stopped in here early on a weekday morning after a really long time- I used to go to Gourmet Girls regularly when they were located on Perkins, and I was excited to check out this location. I understand they are not meant to cater to all diets, but I was disappointed that there was not a single vegan item in the pastry/cookie area or in the coolers. This is an area of town that doesn't have many vegan options (unless you count Whole Foods), and I was hoping to get a little treat. I browsed for a few minutes and ended up getting a black coffee (only cream available) and a cute kitchen item. The service also wasn't particularly friendly or inviting, and I felt like I did not want to stick around to browse more because of this.

If you need a king cake to WOW you need to order one from Gourmet Girls! Their Dulce de Leche cake is STUNNING to look at. It sparkles-really! That's no exaggeration. Instead of colored sugar they paint the icing and it looks like it is topped with gold. It will steal the show no doubt.I tried a slice recently and it tastes even better than it looks if that's possible. It's decadent and rich and oh so heavenly. The only downside is the price. One of these babies will cost you $35 for a small and a whopping $55 for a large. I know, I know-but this cake is worth the splurge.

I have been wanting to go here for a while. I was excited to try it for lunch on a day off from work. This place is stunning. There is so much to look at and the goodies in the display case look too good to eat. Everything is a work of art. That said the food is a bit $$ for what you get. I ordered a sandwich/salad combo and a tea. I was a little surprised when the bill rang up at just under $18. I was more surprised by the mini salad and mini sandwich when I open the box. The presentation was beautiful and food was really good. The salad fresh and the croissant...so flaky. Will I go back...yes. But next time I will be prepared for the prices and not get sticker shock when they ring up my order. I may even be brave and get one of those goodies in the case.

It feels like spring in there! I got all the warm & fuzzies because of the vibrant colors and contemporary decor. That is the place where you want to have tea & cookies, like all day long! TIP: they do serve lunch though and open from 10am-4pm. Come here for gifts, decorative items and yes... KING CAKE! I ordered a dulce de leche king cake here and after tax it was $38. It was worth every penny. The king cake had multiple layers and it was frosted with the traditional king cake frosting and also topped with a generous heap of dulce de leche! It was pure decadence and heavenly, if I may add. I placed my order (and prepaid) a couple days before I needed it and it was ready at the time I requested, too. For years, I had known about Gourmet Girls and had only tasted their cake (recently) at a friend's birthday party. From what I had always seen on social media, they make exquisite cakes, cookies and other desserts. I have yet to try their lunch. Hopefully soon! They have a beautiful, open kitchen and customer service in-person and over the phone was nothing but stellar. I can't wait to go back. Lunch anyone?

If I'm going to be completely honest, I've actually only had the king cake cupcakes but they alone were enough for me to give this precious gem a 5 star rating. They're delicious, soft and more like a lovely cinnamon roll bursting out of a cupcake tin with just the perfect amount of sweet and cinnamon to make it enjoyable without leaving you with a feeling of regret after you've devoured the whole thing. The shop itself is bright, airy, clean, welcoming and spotted with lovely cookbooks, cookware and a plethora of what could be the perfect hostess gifts. Their daily menu looks delightfully fresh and I can't wait to make it back for lunch one day.

Can't speak to the food, just the customer service. I received no response to the online catering request form I filled out. After calling, it took 3 business days for the catering person to call back to answer my questions. When I finally reached someone, I received nothing but attitude. I asked if they could deliver (5 minutes away) - "we already have another event that day, so probably not." I asked about the size of certain sandwiches that were 3x the price of other sandwiches (I assumed they might be bigger, they were not) - she was clearly offended by the question. I asked if I could have a side of chicken for the orzo and salad (vs mixed in) to accommodate vegetarians - "we don't really do that." Then she had the audacity to say that she didn't think I was a good fit for their business. What happened to trying to please the customer? I was excited to support a local female-owned business for my sister's shower (~$800 order), but I'll be better off going to Whole Foods. Such a disappointment and unpleasant experience.

I had followed this business's social media page for quite some time and decided that she would a great baker for a birthday cake I needed. How WRONG was I ?! The owner took one look at me and my child's skin color when we walked in and decided that we didn't belong there!!! Like I couldn't possibly afford her cakes! She was absolutely HORRIBLE and RUDE to me even as I tried to place my order. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE ! EVER !!!
