Good Catch Thai Urban Bistro

I have been on a journey trying all the Thai restaurants in the city. This one is definitely top 3. I absolutely adored the staff; they were so welcoming. And speaking of the staff, it is so New Orleans... We got here on a Saturday evening, right around 430pm right when they open. The waitress welcomes us with a big grin, hands us the menus, takes our drink orders but you can see she is concerned about something. She returns with our drinks and mentions the chefs have not arrived yet. I laughed; I was like what? Oh well, I will order an alcoholic drink while we wait for the cooks! Eventually, they showed up, it was maybe 20 minutes later. Not really that big of a deal, and being from here, we are used to stuff like that. One time I dined at Galatroires on Bourbon when all that construction was going one. Apparently, the construction crew hit an electrical wire and knocked power out on half the street. So, I consider this one those quirky New Orleans things. On to what we ordered after the chefs arrived. We ordered the pork and shrimp wontons. I loved it! The sauce had a slight heat that creeped up on ya. And the wontons themselves were full of meat. I also ordered a shrimp and scallop dish with noodles. Look at the SIZE of those scallops. Holy heck! 'That's not a knife, THAT'S a knife.' I couldn't believe both the size and number of scallops on this dish. They are not stingy here; they are very generous with quality and taste being the star. DId I mention they have a grat HH too? Everyday 430 to 630. Great deal. I thoroughly enjoyed it all. The ambience, the staff, the quirkiness, the size of my scallops. This place has it all.

About 4.25 stars. Food is great but menu is not clear or the order has some add on. We order a pad pong karee udon. The dish come with and fried egg. Later we notice they charge extra $2. This was not mention in the menu, and the waitress just assume we want it without asking us. This type of service we really not appreciated. We like the pad pong with the squid. The curry is great with the udon. We also order a clay pot. This dish has glass noodle as the bed. It comes with the sauce and 4 big prawn. Prawn is great. But I like the bacon and mushroom in it. Food is great.

Absolutely the most HORRIFIC service we have ever had. We've lived in the quarter for almost 10 years and never managed to get here. Now, I will never go back.We got seated pretty quick, but then there was no server for almost 5 minutes. We ordered 2 thai tea, pad Thai, curry, soup and satay.Right off the bat, we never got our tea and were even charged for it.The satay came out and we discovered it was dark meat. I've never had a satay with dark meat so we sent it back. My husband's curry came out fairly quick and he said it tasted good. By the time my soup came out ( which was also dark meat ) he was basically done eating.When I asked to change the pad Thai to shrimp ( I figured the chicken was again going to be dark meat again), it took well over 20 minutes for me to get it.** By the way, there was nothing anywhere that said all chicken dishes would be dark meat **My husband was completely done eating and had to sit there while I ate. Now this whole time we NEVER saw our waitress or any other employee. She never once came to our table to refill water or ask if everything was OK. I had to stop someone walking by for water and they looked at me like I had asked for a gold bar.There were only 5 tables and 2 came after we did ( they also got their food before me) so there is no excuse they were busy.The food was tasty, I really loved the soup (after taking out the nasty chicken)But due to the lack of any service, we will never go back

Christmas Eve and Good Catch was jammed. Thanks to the owners and staff for working when so many NOLA restaurants were closed. She had a Thai version of a margarita and loved it I stuck with club soda with a splash of Angostura Bitters. We had papaya salad to start -- excellent. Our main was the whole fried grouper in chili sauce. We ate every bite and sucked the bones. While I would have preferred a wee bit more chili in the chili sauce, I'd definitely order it again. The lagniappe: co-owner Frankie W stopped by to chat about the meal, about the challenges of starting a restaurant, and about international trade and supply chains. It turns out Frankie is actually a prof at the Loyola B-school. Prof by day, restauranteur by night. His business partner is his Thai-born wife. She runs the kitchen while he runs the front of the house.

Food is good. Service is unbearably slow. The tables did feel a bit close together, but not close enough to hear another table's conversation. Came in at 630 with a reservation and it wasn't too packed but by 730, the entire restaurant seemed full.Spicy clams - good amount. Sauce is thick and flavorful. Has a good kick to it. Nam tok salad - pork on top of cabbage. Simple but tasty. Tom yum soup with shrimp - tangy and sweet. Large ($12) came with 7 shrimp. Spicy crab noodle - lots of jumbo lump crab with dry ramen noodle. Enjoyed this dish a lot, the ramen was more chewy. Pad Thai with glass noodle - I've never had pad Thai with glass noodle before and I really enjoyed this. Might have to get it with glass noodles if available from now on. Comes with shrimp and scallop. Felt like it had a good amount of protein. Garlic pepper stir fry sliced beef loin - really needed the dip to give it better flavor. Would pass on this next time. Seared scallop green curry - one of their more popular dishes. The scallops were big. Comes with 3. One of our scallops were undercooked and tasted off. Our least favorite dish. It was sweet and the curry was too thin. Service was so slow. Took forever to get a menu. Then forever to order. Then forever for the food to come out. Once the food came out, we never really saw our server again. Servers had to be flagged down for more water and the bill. And even after flagging down, we still had to wait more. Probably understaffed but could see this place doing really well once they get that under control.

Amazing food. Great flavors and wonderful execution. Portion sizes are better than one may expect. Really friendly staff and management. Good catch!

This experience was absolutely divine. We went on a double date for COOLinary. I love the originality of their COOLinary menu: they did a three course menu based on geographic regions of Thailand. Such a COOL idea ;) We got the Northern and the other couple ordered the Southern. Biggest hits: crab curry and the short rib khao soi was to die for. The service was fantastic. We everyone was so nice. We were right at home. Restaurants like this are what make New Orleans special. Absolutely and wholeheartedly recommend!

Absolute best Thai food I've had in the USA! This spot is a little hidden in the warehouse district and is.... Such a good catch! Service is very friendly and attentive, the restaurant is cute and comfortable. The food is spectacular. Really authentic Thai flavors, inventive dishes (we added catfish to kao soi) and flavor bombs in every bite. We also had pad siew which threw me right back to Thailand. Will be dreaming of this meal for a long time!

Came here with a large group, was seated very quickly. The servers and owners were extremely welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting or local to NOLA looking to switch it up. The whole group enjoyed the food and I will be recommending and returning when I come back to visit.
