"We need to go to Cooter Brown's!" my boyfriend insisted. I had never had a fried oyster in my life, but I was ready! They were soooo good! I was expecting them to be super greasy; they were perfectly breaded specimens of yumminess. The service was friendly and fast despite the crowds. Lots of beer choices. It's the perfect place to watch football and that definitely was going on both times we stopped by.This is a dive bar that appeals to the old school, South Sider (Chicago), Gen Xer, sporty girl in me. It's a throwback to all the bars that used to sponsor my Chicago Sport & Social Club teams (football, beach volleyball, and floor hockey). I'm glad that dive bars are alive and well in a great sports town like New Orleans.I will definitely be back the next time we're in town. My boyfriend's family lives nearby so we shall see y'all soon!!!

I went here for the oysters and while they were fresh the uncleanliness of the restaurant ruined the entire experience. It is a self seating bar and most to the tables were dirty but the worst part was while eating I had a roach climb onto my shoulder and up my neck. I mentioned it to the busser and instead of addressing the problem he brushed it off. He stated that because the door is open roaches are likely to come inside. But under no circumstance would I ever want to eat or drink somewhere that would even allow the potential for a roach to come in. I don't ever plan to eat here again.

The food hits the spot at this neighborhood sports bar. There's bar and area to order food. I highly recommend the fries, chicken tenders, and sandwiches. My favorite sandwich is the Irish Channel special - thick cut of corn-beef balanced by creamy, crunchy slaw. It's delicious. The French fries are hand battered and packed with favor.

Going back many years, this was the first place I got into with a fake ID at the age of 15. 1977. Have been coming here since. My favorite place for oysters and a beer. Great kitchen too. Unbelievable beer selection. Might be one of the best in the city.

I like this place...a lot! I stopped in by chance late-night on February 2nd - only because it was open and nothing else around me was. I'm sooo glad I did!! It is a dive bar with good food and a great beer selection. The place is divey, but has a bunch of cool wood-carvings of celebrities from a bygone era. The crowd is an eclectic mix of: locals, college students (from Loyola and Tulane), professors, and alums. If you want food... go to the counter - off to the right. They give you a buzzer so you know when it's ready. I had a shrimp Po' Boy. It was solid. Next time I want to try the oysters which I hear are awesome! Everyone is friendly and prices are reasonable. Cant't wait for my next visit!

Great selection of beers. Weird art lining the ceiling. Strangely bright for a bar. Saw one of the largest cockroaches scurry across the floor.

Definitely a different way of doing things, but one of the best things we ate during our trip. On our last full day in town, we dragged ourselves out of bed and went looking for food near our airbnb. After something of a strange journey and turning away from a few other spots, we ended up at Cooter Brown's. I think the doorman should've explained as we walked in, but you can order drinks at the bar and then go to the kitchen to order food. There was a patio as well as a smoking section (?!) so we tucked ourselves in a booth in a back corner. My boyfriend had a brunch burger, which he reported was good. I ordered the gator Po'Boy and fries were separate so we split a basket. I'd never tried gator or a Po'Boy, but it was delicious! Certainly felt like a divey local spot, but that's where we're most at home anyway lol.

Cooter browns is a great lunch place or if you want to watch some sports and eat oysters!! I got the shrimp po boy which was absolutely packed with shrimp. The bread was a little dry but overall it didn't take away from the sandwich too much. The ambiance is perfect as you feel right at home with the locals eating their favorite meals and watching their favorite sports teams!

Great location! You can pick up street car #12 right outside! Friendly hosts. It's self serve. There's a food station, the bar and the oyster bar. Very chill atmosphere and comfortable. Theres a huge screen with football game on. Food was on point! Selection of oysters wowed me! And the size of the oysters wowed me again!

Been coming to this bar to watch sports for a few months since I moved to NOLA. While majority of the staff, especially bartenders are nice, there's a young man with a long hair who's very disrespectful and unprofessional. In brief, he had been ignoring me for over 20 minutes as he was flirting with female customer without acknowledging my existence for trying to order a drink. Come on dude! You get paid to service all customers, not getting paid to flirt with girls you find attractive.
