Chookies Seafood and Oyster Bar

The previous reviews did nothing for this place oysters on the Half shell out of hand. Seafood gumbo and Oyster pasta on Point a must to have.Service GREAT highly recommended

We stop at Chookies on our way to New Orleans a couple of times a year. The food is always fresh and hot. I usually get the pistolet trio but this time I got the shrimp po-boy and a side of fries. The po-boy was loaded with piping hot nice size shrimp served on fresh po-boy bread. The fries were hot and crispy too. A side of fries was enough to share. We also got a fried shrimp salad. There were 10+ large fried shrimp on the salad! The service was excellent and our food was served promptly. The wait staff is attentive and everything came out as ordered. Our seafood lunch for two was less than $40. That's not bad these days. The dining room has been updated since we first started going to Chookies. I miss the character of the old oyster bar in the dining room but the changes haven't changed the taste or quality of the food. We'll be back for sure.

We had lunch there after my daughter's graduation. To say that this experience was top notch will not do it justice. Our waitress with some assistance handled over 20 guests and handled it with class and style! The appetizers came out in a timely manner and the drinks were always filled. The food was delicious! I highly recommend the crab cakes and pasta. Light yet delicious and full of flavor! We were able to reserve the private room for our party and everything was set up perfectly! Thank you for such a wonderful experience and memorable graduation luncheon for our daughter!

Service was decent but food was not up to par. Hush puppies were dry, fries were like any frozen bag you can get from Walmart and fish was the best part but definitely wasn't the best I've had. Way overpriced as well.

Just stopped in and order cheese sticks, half shrimp/half oyster poboy, and also got the crab cakes over paste. Service was outstanding but the food tasted like it came from the frozen section at the local grocery story and priced a lil high.

My mother my wife my 5 year old and I went in about 630/7pm on a Saturday evening. We were greeted almost immediately and not soon after was our server taking drink orders.I can only speak on what I ordered and tasted. The overall quality of the food was good however everything lacked seasoning. The Dry Dock Fries weren't bad. It was mainly just roast beef juice mixed with canned cheese sauce. The crab cakes were actually the better part of the whole meal. I got the half and half po'boy. Half shrimp and half (made in house) roast beef. I had to add salt and pepper to both sides. The shrimp tasted pretty good just needs some kind of seasoning on the fried shrimp. Now the roast beef was a big miss for me. It was tasteless shredded mush and not even salt and pepper helped. In a state where people say "if you ain't sneezing you ain't seasoning" this place indeed wasn't sneezing.As for the atmosphere it's very chill unless you get some noisy kids in there. There were lots and lots of older people. Overall an okay experience. I won't be running back to it any time soon.

Oysters are excellent and good price on Oyster nightOrdered a entree (Stacked Seafood on pasta in a crawfish cream sauce)I gave it a 4 no seasoning No flavor The service was excellent and fastThe ambiance is always great

Although a local favorite, I can't say I'm in a here to get back. We entered this establishment excited to possibly get some yummy seafood, but we probably should have just left after crossing the threshold of the door as I had to speak twice before we were acknowledged. It took a little longer to be seated and while at the table we encountered some kind of insect. In the spirit of nature lives here too. We didn't panic and leave but should have. Then what seems to be a town favorite because they got relatively busy, we were served hot, unseasoned fish, shrimp, and fries. Our server (the one who probably picked the shortest stick) was kind enough and somewhat attentive but knowing other customers were welcomed will keep me away.

What happened with Chookies's?? I have gotten food from this establishment for years. Since Chookie has passed away the food has been terrible. I ordered a shrimp poboy or should I say a poboy bread with some shrimp. I paid almost 20.00 bucks for a shrimp poboy but it lacked the shrimp. There is so many other places that I can find a poboy that has the seafood. I won't be eating anything from here again.

I ordered the seafood pasta, it was really thick and cheesy, they should have just called it seafood Mac and cheese, either way it was gross!
