Wow. This is the place of my dreams. Super fresh and large oysters, lovely service, and such a fun casual spot that is family-owned. If I'm ever back in New Orleans, I'll be here. Loved the oysters on half shell and the char grilled oysters, which are a bit pricier. The char grilled fries are also good. It is cash only! Come early as it gets busy.

You go for the oysters. It's that simple. The raw oysters are fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. I tried the gumbo which was decent. Also tried the meatball loaf, about the only non-seafood item. The meatballs were good but too much bread for my taste.Go for the oysters.

The wait is sometimes long but it's always worth it. This New Orleans staple has been around for a very long time. And with good reason. Food here is always really really good. Today I had a half oyster loaf. We started with a half dozen chargrilled oysters which were also excellent. If you ever want to try a slant on an oyster po'boy, try the oyster loaf and I think you'll like it.

Kicking 2025 off with a New Orleans Institution! Casamento's is the best oyster house in the city hands down! Every inch of this place, from the tile walls to the guys shucking behind the bar scream NEW ORLEANS. Everything is still hand made, yes each individual oyster is breaded by hand before being friend and placed on the most heavenly bread you will ever have. The oyster loaf and the soft shell crab are a must! If you are visiting New Orleans during oyster season come here don't spend your time or money elsewhere.

Was staying close by and Casamento's has been on my list for 25 years to visit. It has restricted hours, is very small and is only open during oyster season. On a Friday night , I stopped by after happy hour and asked waitress/hostess if I could order a Sammy to go. She said sure and I ordered half of an oyster loaf (dressed). After 15 minutes she delivered it to me and I took it home. It was the best thing I ate this trip. The oysters were so fresh and incredibly crunchy and it was made with love. My only regret is that I had to share a third with my lovely wife. Been back for 3 days and still dreaming about it. And the waitress? She may have been the funniest person I ever met and she could star in her own reality show. God, I wish this was in my hometown.

What a great place - the service is friendly and exceptional. The atmosphere is the "real deal" of authentic seafood place. Nothing is fancy but everything is simple delicious perfection. We had the best grilled oysters of the trip (Hear that Felix and Acme?). I don't like a lot of topping and I asked for just a bit of garlic- great. My friend got all the toppings and loved them as well. The fresh oysters were also at the top of my trip for not super expensive restaurants. I mean, maybe they are better at Arnaud's but why go there? The oyster stew is briny- so fresh - just some milk, butter, and fresh fresh oysters barely cooked through. The shrimp loaf and the catfish loaf were also fresh, greaselessly fried and big portioned. I wanted an oyster loaf but the table wouldn't let me!

Casamento's is a family owned NOLA institution that specializes in Gulf seafood. It's a quirky place where you get the impression that they don't need to accommodate you because they have plenty of customers. This is not to say the food and service aren't great...they are! But there's no making reservations, cash only, only open Thursday-Sunday, (and to be safe, call to check. Especially in summer.) Be prepared to stand in line a while. It is definitely not hip and not touristy. It's small and casual. The floors and walls are all tile which is pretty but makes it loud. They have several beers (not on tap tho) and cheap wine. Decor is amusing. You can buy oyster crafts if that's your thing! Two guys are shucking fresh oysters for half shell. Yum. I got the seafood gumbo which was excellent and husband got the oyster "stew" which wasn't like New England thick oyster stew but a buttery thin broth. Delicious. Fried oyster sandwich is served on "pan bread" which reminds me of Texas toast. I'd prefer a French load but this was pretty good bread. Oysters perfectly fried. Husband got platter with half trout and half oysters. Sides of fries and cole slaw. Reasonably priced.

This place serves the freshest oysters in a no-frills, authentic setting. While the fried fish and oysters were good, the raw half shell and chargrilled oysters stole the show. Be prepared for a cash-only policy and a possible wait, but the experienced shuckers make it well worth it.

The second you walk into this restaurant, you can feel the history in this restaurant. From the use of an old cashier register to pictures showing the restaurant back in 1919. You can feel that this is a well loved local restaurant. What caught our eye with this restaurant was their Chargrilled Oysters. I've never had oysters this was so I had to try them! One of my friends never had oysters and she really liked them. I told her this is probably a good starter oyster for those who don't eat seafood too often. The oysters were filled with garlic and butter, can't go wrong with this combo. To get the most of all the seafood, we ordered the seafood platter which comes with fried oysters, shrimp, crab claws, and a choice of the trout or catfish. We chose the trout and had an order of the catfish as well. This was a ton of food for three people and I feel as though it is a shame to waste seafood. Our favorites were the shrimp and catfish out of the seafood. The fried seafood wasn't too salty which helped as we were eating a bunch of fried food. We didn't like the crab claws as much and could skip that next time. We really enjoyed Casamento's as it's a cute little casual restaurant and reasonably priced! It's cute how there's someone shucking oysters at the front while you wait. If you want some seafood, this is a place you gotta try!

The oyster shop most tourists don't find as way uptown on Magazine Street. Yes - there is Acme, Felix's, Deanie's, etc. but when I am in town this is my spot. Started in 1938 and I expect decor unchanged. And most of the staff have been here a LONG time. And great!Limited seating. Seafood heavy. We had raw and grilled oysters and then 1/2 po-boys of shrimp and oysters. A taste treat and easy on the wallet.
