I want to gatekeep, but I won't since it's for a good cause. They have a great selection for great prices, and there's enough turnover so that it's not just the same inventory every time.

Just off St. Charles Ave, right behind the BEAUTIFUL Latter Library, and only open for a few select hours each week, this little book store is full of the BEST DEALS in used books in the city, the area, and possibly the state (please correct me if you know of somewhere better!).It is well organized, full of Thousands of books for $1 dollar (Not all books are one dollar, but more than half!). They also have DVDs, and kids books. There is a big shelf as soon as you walk in filled with the books that most kids have to read for their English classes, and most for $1.And then you are finished reading your books, you can donate them back to this facility and it goes to further the efforts of the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library.....win-win!!An added benefit for those who like to compost, Compost NOW accepts frozen compostable food scraps here from 12:30pm-2pm every Wednesday. Recycle some books, and recycle food waste.

I love this place. Books at a great price that also supports libraries... what more can you ask for! I am always able to find books I want to read that are in very good quality. They do sort the books into genres which is very helpful. They even have a section for kids books and New Orleans focused books. You can pay with credit card (I think it is $5 minimum) or cash. $1 for paperback books and $2 for hardcover (what a steal!!!) I appreciate their COVID precautions, they only allow 8 people inside at a time (as of January 2021) which I appreciate.

My favorite book store in New Orleans hands down! Located on the grounds of the Milton H. Latter Memorial Library and operated by The Friends of the New Orleans Public Library this little shop not only sales books but helps to fund many educational programs through the library system.Recently renovated the shop is well organized and fun to stroll through. Here you will find new and slightly used book as well as some very old books. Prices are beyond low and every bit of your cash goes to fund programs throughout our great city. You can stop by anytime to donate books and the store is opened Wednesdays and Saturdays. Did I mentioned that the renovation included the addition of A/C so now you can shop and stay cool during the Summer heat!

Yay for a separate listing for the Library book sale! This is a great spot to find recent hardback best sellers as well as children's books and vintage items. It was the actual carriage house when Latter Library was a private home. Recent renovations have made it a great spot to browse. It is run by the Friends of the Library and your cash helps fund the Public Library so win win! It is only open 2 days a week for 4 hours each day, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10-2. Usually they put a sign out on St Charles when they are open.

This place was AMAZING! The staff was super helpful and kind! I've been to a lot of bookstores and this is in my top 2. They have the best deals. I got over 12 books for just $16. The store is organized, clean, and has a variety of newer and older books. If you're in NOLA you have to check this place out!

I passed the public library on the streetcar once and saw a sign saying "Book Sale". Thoroughly curious, I googled New Orleans public library book sales and saw that The Carriage House opens their doors a couple of days a week to the public. My friend and I trekked over here one Saturday and we were in love. It's everything I would want a bookstore to be. The volunteer at the desk was friendly, you could definitely tell their were some local regulars shopping, and I found a wide variety of books I would've had to pay double the price for at Barnes and Noble. Everything is priced from $1-$8. I walked away with $5 books for $5.50 which I call a success in every way. They sell some rare books and, if not for the fact that I'm a broke law student, I would've walked away with the History of England collection for $45. Their collection of DVDs, Records, and CDs is large and I know my friend found several movies she had been wanting to patch in their stacks. The Carriage House accepts credit card and cash. Bring your own bag or they'll provide you with a plastic Rouse's bag to carry your treasures. I am definitely coming back soon to scoop up more books for my collection. I suggest you stop by, as well!

This is the kind of place I absolutely love and have spent months looking for in New Orleans. For some reason the many searches I have done for used book stores never led me here. The very last thing I need in my life is another book but at the same time there is nothing I enjoy more.So why I love it. - it's not a place like half price books where you still end up spending $8+ per book. I walked out with three good books, two where only $1 and one was $2.50. -the workers are volunteers so they are there because they truly want to be. -the profits go to literacy related non-profits and charities. But most of all because the books come from a library there is a good variety in books. On some other small used books stores owners biases and local interests effect the selection. Not only because that's what they can sell but because that's what people are selling to the store. Here they are not interested in selling what's profitable and making money but instead they get there selection from the library which has a much broader scope than most stores. If you have time some Wednesday or Saturday morning available it is definitely worth checking out.

A great place to get books for a low price! They have limited hours but it is worth making the trip when they are open! I got 5 books for only 9 dollars. 4 of them were hardbacks.
