We went Saturday, which was Day 2 after their opening and we were pleasantly surprised. We will be going back. My only complaint is that chips and salsa are not complimentary. Oh, they pour their drinks strong, so you may need a designated driver."

"Had a nice experience at Chivo's in Mandeville with a party of six for lunch on a busy Saturday. Excellent service and good chips with passable salsa and a complimentary bean dip. Wife had street tacos, which she said were very good. I had the Rosarito Grand combination plate which although generously portioned was somewhat bland. Nice bar area with multiple TVs; dining room was comfortable but with a definite strip mall ambiance. All in all a nice experience and a good place for lunch or to take in a ball game."

"This is unexpectedly some of the best Mexican food I've had in the Baton Rouge area. We were hungry and it wasn't far from where we were so we gave it a try. The inside was very clean, you can see to the back in the kitchen area and that was also very tidy. All of the food had very good flavor. Everything tasted fresh and seemed to be prepared with a lot of care. The service was amazing. We also ordered a kids cheeseburger with fries and some wings that aren't pictured. Both of those were cooked well and tasted good too. I will be going here when I want some Mexican food to-go now."

"My number one recommendation for anyone in Houma is to try this place. It is very appealing from the outside since it looks a little run down and can smell residual stench from the garage nearby. Indoor seating is also in need of work. They have a variety of hot sauces at each table and a nice sized menu that is very fairly priced. They have yummy tacos and burritos (with everything add sour cream cheese and both chicken and steak). They also have an item similar to a quesadilla that you should get with beans (pupusa). Employees don't speak much English if any at all. One is the few places I wish I could bring back home. Definitely a go-to spot if you're a local."

"Velvet Cactus is the most unique Mexican gem in the city! The ambiance of this place is unbeatable, with excellent indoor and outdoor seating. A great place to dress up for a girls night, or dress down for a casual dinner. Especially during the Christmas season, they offer bubble tents and transform the place into a winter wonderland. Everything I have tried here has been great! But my all time favorites are the salsa and the cheese grits. I crave both of them! I recommend getting the taco plates. They are super yummy with a better portion. Most of the plates they offer are big portions so I normally have a lot to take home. They also have yummy margaritas with a great happy hour!The service is great too with very nice and thoughtful servers. Our server came to check on us and refilled anything we needed. Love love love!!"

"They have some really great dishes on the menu if you look past the usual items wrapped in tortillas. Their Caldo de Res (beef soup) is really great and a huge serving. The Molajete fajita bowl is also another huge serving and it comes sizzling and bubbling hot in an actual volcanic rock bowl which keeps it piping hot and makes for a really nice eating experience. They do have some drink specials here but you do have to monitor the drink strength as it varies depending on who is making them and sometimes they can be on the weak side. I sampled their gigantic huge super sized margarita which is larger than my head but I found it to be EXTREMELY weak so make sure to let your server know if you got "unlucky" in the booze department. "Came here on a Tuesday afternoon. The place wasn't crowded but there was plenty of servers, who were all super friendly. Even the manager came out to speak with me.I ordered the vegetarian tacos and subbed the mushrooms for black beans. It was so delicious! The rice was ok and corn was cool. The house margarita was delicious! I definitely look forward to coming back. Hopefully more menu items can be made vegetarian."

"This is absolute best Mexican restaurant in New Orleans. El Pavo Real is hiding in open view where Broad meets Napoleon, but is well worth the visit! They only have street parking, but this is never a problem as I always find a spot by the tiny park just steps away. We are Always greeted on arrival and have been able to get a table even when they are extremely busy. I should note they also have a few intimate dining tables on the side of the building that are worth the wait. Our dining experience here has always been outstanding. We found that even the most basic menu items like their queso the Rajas Con Queso is prepared in amazing, unique ways you can't find anywhere else. Seriously this Queso is oven baked with onion and corn and served sizzling to your table! Their Quesadilla and tamales are surprisingly impressive and my favorite item the Shrimp Taco is a masterpiece of spectacularly fried shrimp perfectly served as an untraditional taco. "People from work love this place.Before I start this review I need to provide you with a caveat. I do enjoy Mexican food but it is not my favorite cuisine. What does this mean for you? Well, it doesn't really mean anything to you specifically. What I mean is that when I end up here it is because I have grown tired of deciding where to go and leaving the choice up to my co-workers.La Carreta is not bad. In fact, it is a decent place to get Mexican food for lunch. My go-to order is the fajitas, usually steak fajitas. I hear if you eat a bunch of red meat it is really good for you which is why I chose this item. The fajitas are decent but have never blown me away with flavor. I would say they are pretty standard fajitas. Me, I like fajitas that are super flavorful and these just don't do it for me.The shining star of Carreta is their wait staff. Every time we have visited we have had a great server. We usually have a large group and they handle us with ease. Parking is also easy and plentiful."

The chips and salsa were fresh and tasty. Our entrees were served so quickly that I don't even think we were there more than 30 minutes. The food is incredibly reasonably priced! But better than all of that--the flavors were outstanding. The Chile Colorado was tender and delicious. The enchiladas supremas really did my little heart happy. I love enchiladas and you get to sample 4 different ones on this dish. It does not come with rice and beans but believe me, you will not miss it. The flavors of the enchiladas topped with Queso, lettuce and sour cream had my taste buds dancing. The service was exceptional and I can guarantee that when we find ourselves back in Gonzales we will be returning!"

The meat was ok, a little over salted... the mole was real good. I liked the rice with peas and a little potato. Beans were pretty average. Service was a little slow. But overall, ok. I'm giving 4 stars, but it was more 3.5."
