"Tag's is a great locally owned please to grab your favorite types of meats to cook at home. They have everything you were looking for at a great quality. This place also cooks quite a few things that are usually to one's delight. So whether you looking to cook something at home or grab a quick sandwich, Tag's is a great place to go."
"I just wanna start by saying Calandro's has THE Best beer selection out of any grocery store in Baton Rouge. I'm a beer guy so I find that they have something new I wanna try all the time, literally the only place that might top their selection is their other location haha. Calandro's is a fantastic local grocery store that carries all the essentials such as frozen foods, produce, snacks, meats, booze, and even a billion flavors of King cake as well as much more! They even have hot lunches at lunch time throughout the week! They represent the definition of a local grocery store with local items being sold there as well as the purple and gold tortilla chips you see on clip strips as well for game day snacks. The staff is extremely nice and helpful which is hard to find at some grocery stores but friendliness is never not found at Calandro's. Overall most grocery stores are just stores to me but there are few that stand out that I always enjoy going to no matter what day it is and Calandro's is one of them !"
"Was in the area and wanted some boudin balls and stumbled across this place on Yelp. Walk in and there's many coolers full of plenty different things (didn't look around much as I'm far from home and just wanted hot food). There wasn't too much in the little hot box but I went ahead and got 2 pepper Jack boudin balls and 1/4 lb of pork cracklins, and was not disappointed at all. The cheese in the boudin ball is all mixed up in the boudin instead of one big clump of cheese (not knocking it) like some boudin balls have. The cracklins also were pretty darn tootin good, both the balls and cracklins were cooled off a bit so must've been sitting for a while and still good! I paid $14 for all of that so can't complain...and the boudin balls are bigger than a baseball so. Really cool guy behind the register..said he has been open for over 30 years so he's definitely got this figured out. Highly recommend"
"They make some of the best deer sausage on the coast. Their mild flavor has just the right amount of spice, though for a little heat you can go with the jalapeno and cheese. I also had some summer sausage made here and it was good but there were some small bone fragments in a lot of them. Even so, this is where I take my deer meat."
"We rained out at work and I stopped by to check them out. They had a great selection of meat and sausage. I got a couple of rib-eyes , Porkchop's and sausage. The steaks were tender and the Porkchop's were most. The prices were good. The only problem is they are only open from 7-3 Monday through Friday. If you have a job its hard to catch them open."
"I stopped in here because I'd seen the signs food this boucherie what is a boucherie? A butcher shop. I purchased chicken sweet and spicy sausage which was amazing. They also have it in pork, but that gets me too guilty. I loved it. They make everything in-house and it's delicious!"
"We have been using Johnson Family Farms for our meat since moving to Mississippi. We find the quality, price and customer service to be some of the best. Now they have on line ordering. You can't beat that. We normally purchase 1/8 cow every 3 or 4 months for my wife and I. I have several friends from Slidell, La. that use them for their quality and price. The customer service is always first rate. If you have a request they'll do everything they can to meet it. The store is your typical meat market and everything has a place. Very well displayed and marked. They have handouts with the different quantity packs with the prices."
"Oh, Wagner's. I had to review this place, because I am here 3 times a week, and doesn't even have a listing on Yelp! Yelp doesn't have enough categories for this place. They have SO MUCH different stuff- beer, wine, booze, meat (and a butcher too!), fruit, snacks, candy..... the list goes on. I wouldn't recommend running here for any random household items like aluminum foil or drain opener, but they have basic late night staples. Their beer selection is kind of surprising/amazing. Tons of ciders (my jam), nicer local beers (Nola, Abita), and an impressive canned (read: cheaper) beer section. The trick is to go in the cooler. It sort of looks like you aren't allowed to, but do it anyway! There are lots of singles for your biking-while-sipping pleasure as well. I can't vouch for their wine, but it does appear to be on the lower priced end- think wine coolers and things that come in jugs or boxes. There are crazy sales often, right near the register. The staff are really friendly, which is a change of pace coming from Hank's down the street. Wagner's is the question and the answer to all your (non-household) problems. There is also a daquiri shop next door, which is rarely open. Famous for it's 'DUST MONEY' drink, I can't wait to check it out!"
"Now this place brings back some great memories. My Mom who is no Novice in the kitchen would go here a couple of times a month to pick up various Sausage and Meats for Gumbo, Red Beans, Jambalaya you name it. Now I'm partial to the Alligator Sausage but the Crawfish Sausage is right up there. This is a great family run business that's been serving Families and Businesses in New Orleans for many many years. Had a chance to stop by yesterday before flying out today. The place looks a little different, but Katrina couldn't take away or change the quality and service of Creole Country. I felt like a Tourist when I asked when they were going to start selling Boudin. To my surprise they have been for some time. My response was, "A dozen Links please" I should tell you that when buying you'll be instantly hooked and grocery store Sausage will no longer do. Let's just say that my bags will be 15 pounds heavier for the flight back to Texas. The absolute best!"
"On our way out of the Baton Rouge area, we tried to make a stop at Billy's across from this place. But, they were closed for Easter. Frustrated, we yelped for another grocer and found Kartchner's with a higher rating. New to the Cajun Meat Market, we found it really interesting and generlaly had a great experience except for checkout, which is why I'm only giving four stars. The address on Yelp was correct, but the map took us to a seriously terrifying backwoods private drive in a neighborhood that gave major "The Hills Have Eyes" vibes. We literally spun our tires on the dirt road getting out of there and called ahead for directions. It's across from the Dollar General, which GPS could handle for some reason. The inside reminded me a little of the steakhouses with sawdust on the floor. Lots of wood and a clutter that kept us looking more nad more deeply at all the spicy, stuffed, frozen meats to choose from. Prices were reasonable, We took home about $100 worth of Boudin varieties, stuffed meats, and other fnu things to try. There really is nothing quite like it anywhere else. Checking out was easy, but they charge an extra 4% to use a credit card, which I personally find annoying. It's like a penalty. Just figure it into your price. My yelp check-in gave me a 10% off thing. The checkout person didn't believe me when I said it. Once I showed it to her she seem to resist honoring it. Then, the way she did was to take off the sales tax and remove the 4% charge for using my credit card, rather than just applying 10% to the sale. It felt a little sketch.Overall great experience, have enjoyed the meat back in Fort Worth, and would definitely go again the next time we're through here!"
"Although I went for the chicken crackling on this visit. I have thoroughly enjoyed the chicken salad, chicken wings, deboned chicken, crawfish dressing, ribs, and steaks. Believe it or not, there are still so many more items for me to try. This is a family owned business. I love seeing the growing wall of family pictures. The workers are nice and welcoming and the service is quick. Until next time..."
"I love this place. The smoked sausage is outstanding. They are SO old school in all the best ways. It's worth the drive out to the middle of nowhere, and I visit at least once a year to stock up. Boxes of sausage make a great Christmas present. I highly recommend Baum's!"

Stopped in yesterday for lunch cause I was craving a poboy. I really wanted a shrimp but they only serve that on Fridays. I got the 11" roast beef and gravy dressed and man did it not disappoint! It had so much flavor and was messy. Just the way I like it! The staff were super nice and the food came out piping hot! Place doesn't look like much on the inside or out. But I will definitely be back when I want another poboy to satisfy my craving! No pictures cause I tore into it as soon as I got it!!

What a lovely find in Baton Rouge! I was looking for a place to pick up lunch, the muffuletta was delicious! Quaint little deli carved into this family style grocery store. I could have spent hours in this little gem. Make sure you pick up some of the olive salad, labeled with the Calandro's name. The best around.

I hate to leave reviews that i feel are too harsh, but let me at least explain why I'm leaving this review:1. The pricing of their gratton or cracklin is way too high. In fact, it is higher than all of the other specialty meat shops in the area.2. It wasn't fresh or good. I was really disappointed as they specialize in meat. I hoped for better. I will not eat this again from here.As for what's good:1. The staff were nice and accommodating.2. The chicken cracklin is good, though a little on the greasy side. I'm not sure if it is much different than fried chicken but I'd eat it again.Overall I'm sure there are other things I can say and review, but these two items are severely overlooked in reviews, and being a Cajun these matter to me and people like me.

My 1st deer. Was about to drive all the way to LA to get it process a good neighbor told me about this place. They gave me some samples to try. Very nice. Tell you like this IT DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. Well worth the ten minute ride from the house. I got the GREEN ONION GARLIC, it's great. I don't know what else to say other than OUTSTANDING SERVICE. Great deer sausage. U will not be disappointed.

Great meats ... and the best sausage around. Generally, the brand is distributed and available around Louisiana but they ship all over! If you can get their venison sausage, it is the best thing in the world! But everything they have is great.

This is the best store of its kind in the neighborhood because they have a beer cave and their staff is helpful--they even take care to protect their customers from foolishness. Their meat is good and reasonably priced.

"I like middle eastern food and I like cooking them at home. So this place if perfect for me, it has all of the different spice and seasonings you need. The size and prices are really good also. They aso have fresh lamb, goat and beef. I don't live in Baton Rouge but I will definetly bring and ice chest on my next work trip here.( Lamb and Goat) . The people who work here are friendly, but not very outgoing. I will definetly come to this again."
"That was a really good Roast Beef sandwich. The meat was piled high fresh Veggies and the bread was good. Anyone in New Orleans can and will tell you it's that you have to have a great French Bread as the foundation. Not sure what bread it was but it was good. The place is very noisy and pretty crowded so I took mine to go. The eating area had just a few tables and everyone there seemed to be a regular. That's a good thing. I also picked up various home made Sausages and other Louisiana staples. Great little Meat Market. I'll be back."
"Threes best sausage ever! The cane sausage is amazing. Going to try the jalapeno pineapple chicken, it sounds great!"
"The only reason we went here was to get a shrimp Po boy my husband and I don't live in the area and it was late at night and this was the only place open along our path home. The pictures looked really good and they were not deceiving the young lady who took our order went back and after 15 minutes came back with the best convenience store Poboy that we've ever tasted this was a great option especially since it was the only option but I would definitely come back again to get another if I'm in the area."
"This has been my go to grocery store since I started working late nights in Gonzalez. It's the perfect place to stop on my way home. It's well organized and designed like you'd expect a medium sized grocery store to be. Set up in a way where you almost have to go right upon entry. It's always clean, shelves are well stocked and everything is where it's supposed to be. Ralph's Market feels like a neighborhood grocery store. The cashiers and stockers are very friendly and personal. Maybe I go there too much but I find myself having personal conversations with some of them about their personal lives and other things going on in their world AND I'm not even from the area. Sure go here if you're in the area. I'd almost always prefer to support a store like this which is independently owned instead of one of the larger chain grocery stores where you don't get the personal touch. The deli also serves lunch and breakfast with several options on each. I've had the breakfast with no complaints and even a slice of pizza one day. Also, two of the ladies I work with go there to get salads on a regular basis for lunch. But there's also more hardier options available."
"Stopped here on a random BBQ wander through Mississippi - and this place was a pleasant surprise. It looks like a simple Gas Station and Convenience Store, but it is hiding some pretty decent BBQ. Although the barbecue was pre-packaged, the chicken, ribs, and smoked sausage were delicious! The sign says they have brisket after 6:00 PM, and hope to try some that someday."
"Sal's Super Meat Market is exactly what it the sign says it it - a Pickled Meat Center. The next time I make some tasty red beans, I will grab some pickled delicious from here to toss in the mix. The meat counter is impressive - they have just about any part of any animal in there, nicely pickled pink. A lot of the selection is from the swine, and appears to be done in house. The butchers are knowledgable, and know their way around a pickled piece o' meat. The first time I swung in this joint, I picked up a twenty pound case of the $23.99 Spare Ribs. They were about exactly what one would expect from spare ribs that cost a buck a pound. They were very lean, very bony, very frozen, and very imported from Denmark. Will enough love and a good pitmaster, they were serviceable. Since then, I discovered the glories of the meat markets at Restaurant Depot and Costco - but they hardly carry any pickled meats. The rest of the store is just a small grocery store, with nothing at all exciting going on, especially with Casey Jones about 300 yards across the street. If you're headed to Sal's Super Meat Market, you're headed their for the largest selection of Pickled Meat that I know of in the Greater New Orleans Area. Four stars for the Pickled Meat niche."
"The hospitality and friendliness of this place is amazing I feel part of the family. Not to mention their turducken ordering and pickup was very easy and they accept Apple Pay which made my transaction a lot easier since I forgot my wallet at home. They are reasonable priced too. We had the crawfish rice turducken. Was supposed to get a roll but they ran out and upgraded me so that was great and I am thankful for it. I even had a little extra plates to feed the homeless and meal prep for a week. I have bought other meats here no fee and everything is fresh and great price. Thank you. And happy holidays."
"My husband and son come here often for their boudin. I love cracklins and they have great ones."
"Baby, the food must be good. As I am sitting and waiting for my order, there is an older and young lady enjoying their lunch. The young lady is smacking some serious and licking/ sucking her fingers. I keep looking up like what is that noise! Can't wait til I get home to try mine."
"Oh Chisesi, how I love your ham.In my opinion, Chisesi ham is the best ham available. Every local store carries their VIP ham, and there is no better ham sandwich than one made with Chisesi ham. I think you can even buy a whole ham for baking.I realize this isn't the best review, but Damn I love this ham."
"Primo Italiano food. This reminded me of my families recipes. The owner and wait staff very friendly. Everything is homemade including the Italian sausage. I highly recommend the pasta with meatballs and sausage, appetizer being the Cajun Boudin egg rolls. The owner came by to say hello seeking positive and constructive feedback. Bon appetite."
"Sorry can't give more then five stars! The place full twenty minutes before closing but just grabbed a couple snacks for the ride and both so good. The beef jerky , Smokey and so complex. It had a mild heat and a deep Smokey flavor, and tender. The hot head cheese Spicy but not overwhelming, the natural flavor of the pork still came threw. Not greasy, still firm some of the best I've ever had. Hidden gem of the bayou."
""Local supermarkets rock this city"! Strangely enough, this was my first time ever to go to Calandro's. My initial mission was to look for king cakes and oh boy, did I find them! I discovered the treasure at the end of rainbow here! There were king cakes galore; shelves and tables filled the front of the store! Every flavor imaginable was available here: brownie king cakes, German chocolate king cakes and even liquor-infused king cakes (must be 21+ to purchase these). In addition to the different flavors there were different sizes of king cakes... if you wanted the large ones, they had them, if you wanted more individualized king cakes, they had them, too. Their bakery is filled with goodies, including Cupcake Bites from our very own local Cupcake Diva - "Cupcake Allie". This store is so well organized, beautiful produce section, deli, household goods and more! Don't forget to keep it local, so shop local! Come to Calandro's for your everyday food needs and some phenomenal king cake!"
"We random found this cute little Cajun Village. One of the cashiers told us to go see the alligator and as we were heading that way else ran into this little shop. They had some jewelry, meats, and sauces. My hubby picked up some pineapple sausage and some BBQ Sauce. We can't wait to try. We are so happy to have found this little hidden gem."
"I was in town for a business trip and the first time I came here I had ordered the fried oyster poboy and it was so filling and super delicious ! So I had to come back for another lunch and wasn't as hungry so I ordered the kids meal chicken strips and the flavor of the batter and the moist-ness of the strips were on point ! If you're ever in the area, I would definitely recommend this joint!"
"Very clean with pretty good size lot for location. Lots of gas pumps. Good looking meat. Lots of soft drinks, beer wine, groceries, t shirts. Meat counter. Hunt Brother's Pizza and fried chicken. Okay employees"
"I was on the Andouille Trail one Saturday and this place was the only place on the trail that was open (seriously - five restaurants closed on a Saturday! Including two restaurants in Lutcher that appeared to exist on Google Maps and not in real life). Tod's is a small market with a lot of made to order foods, a butcher shop, and lots of regional products for sale. You can bring home gumbo, shrimp, sausage, meat, shrimp, pizza pretty much anything! There were even giant sacks of camellia beans. I opted for an andouille sandwich on a bun and some onion rings. You order in the back. It was pretty quick, less than 5 min or so. The food was good! The onion rings were thin and crispy and the sandwich was good too, with crispy andouille slices. I would pop in here for lunch again when I'm in the area."
"My boyfriends family always has such good hog head cheese and they told me it was from here. I finally influenced my mom to go and get some, surprisingly it was really cheap which we were not expecting.(Ranged from 2.00-6.00 depending on what size you got). We got the hot hog head cheese and there's a lot in it and it lasted us a very long time. The service is so kind and so sweet, and they really helped out a lot. I've heard the gumbo box comes with a recipe attached to it, and it is delicious. I will be back to try it!!!"
"We bought a boudin king cake today, went home and baked it , boy it was delicious ! We also bought a Randazzo's blueberry cream cheese king cake , it was good but not as good as the boudin king cake. Staff was very friendly and courteous. We will be back to try other things that they sell as well !!"
"I like to get the Steak Special on Thursday I just wish it was cooked a little more. Try it you wont be dissapointed. Lamendolas is a Supermarket that offers Hot Lunch Daily. They have a Facebook page where you can check and see what they will serve that day."
"Everything we got was delicious. I recommend getting a taste of it all before you purchase. Then buy what you want to eat now and buy frozen for later. You won't regret it."
