Jeanine Z. "We had such an amazing time and great experience at R&B Bed and Breakfast! My boyfriend and I stayed here towards the end of February. It was our first time in NOLA and Rita was such a great help! She explained everything thoroughly. She booked activities for us and gave us so many tips and recommendations. The bed and breakfast is decorated beautifully. Most importantly, it is SO clean, which is of huge importance to me. The room was spotless. Rita had water, coffee, and breakfast foods, such as pastries, yogurt, and cereal available every morning. The location of the bed and breakfast is ideal. It's right on Frenchmen Street, a block up from many bars that play live music every night. We loved Frenchman street and Royal Street, as well. We couldn't have found a better location! Overall, we had a wonderful experience at R&B, thanks to Rita. We can't wait to return!"

The breakfasts are so so delicious. They have coffee, tea, cold drinks and snacks available at all times. The room we stayed in (Jazz Festival Room) is spacious, comfortable and the shower is fantastic. We will be back, sooner than 7 years this time!"

Dixie restaurant open for breakfast buffet that is 5 star and lunch. Carriage house restaurant is a fancy or fancy casual and food is very good. Bar is very unique. Historic property from early 1800s. It has a museum but we didn't get time to visit. Lodging is small connected houses approximately one hundred meters from the restaurants and museum. Very nicely appointed and comfortable. Not inexpensive at about $350 per night. Riverboats dock here on Friday and Sunday."

Ruben G. "Wow. Sweet, generous, hospitable. Those are the words that first come to mind when describing Beatriz, our hostess at The Fairchild House. She upgraded us to a king room simply because... she wanted to? (Thanks, Bea!)This place is on the funkier side of the Garden District, but that is reflected in the price. The house was built in the 1800's, so yes - the floors and stairs are creaky. The rooms have 12 foot ceilings, and every room has a window air conditioner. The bathroom in our room was recently redone, and it was splendid! (Translation: lots of hot water, ample water pressure, and room enough for two of us to move around.) There is a patio out back along an enormous hedge - I can only imagine it can help you keep cool during the NO summers. The breakfast room has a wonderful old bar as a counter - Beatriz keeps the hutch that used to sit behind it in the reception area. I can only imagine the effort it took to move those in there! Breakfast includes breads, cereals and fresh fruit - along with juices, tea and coffee. The neighborhood, as stated, is toward the funkier end of the Garden District (on the downtown side). This proved to be no problem, however. We came strolling back fairly late many of the nights we were there, and never felt unsafe. Also, its location puts it a block or two away from lots of eateries... and just a block from the St. Charles streetcar line... primo! I am certain that we'll stay here again, the next time we get to New Orleans."

You aren't in the city so you get a real sense of true New Orleans. But it's a quick cab ride to the quarter or bourbon street. You can walk to shops and restaurants. It's beautiful with lots of classic homes. A great place for groups as they have different room configurations."

Matt C. "From the outside it looks like a garage, with a pedestrian door. You walk through that door and follow the path back to the house. It's a quaint little place with a warm, homey feeling. We were greeted by Tom. He showed us around and offered all kinds of suggestions. He told us who was playing at the local Jazz clubs. After all, you are only three blocks away from Frenchman Street. So we got settled and cleaned up and went down to Frenchman Street. We took his suggestion and went to the D.B.A. club. The featured performer was very good and put on quite a show. You have to be willing to stand...or go around to the other side of the wall and hear muffled music, but you get to sit. This is what we did about half-way into the show.In the morning we went down to breakfast. WOW what a great treat. We were served with a fruit compote and some of the best bacon ever! The company at the table was great and we had a nice conversation with the other guests. The room was killer! Plenty of room and privacy with a comfortable bed. They spared no expense at the upgrades to the bathroom. It was very nice too!The breakfasts were AWESOME. He made mine gluten free due to the dietary restriction my wife put in. The room and area was very nice. The location was perfect to walk to the Jazz District. It was, "As good as it gets." Definitely exceeded my expectations."

★★★☆☆ 2.5 (13)

Patricia R. "This was my second event at Compass Point and I have mixed feelings. It's an outdoor venue in Algiers very near the river, and as it's January it was a little cool outside. We entered through the gate and walked along the concrete path to the main area. No one from the venue welcomed us or gave us any direction even though there were 2 employees smoking in the street right near the entrance. There are several small buildings located on the perimeter of the yard and then there's a floored area/dance floor. The bar is located outside on an upstairs porch in another building with a very steep set of wooden stairs. Hmm. The bar = alcohol, the steep, damp wooden steps = slippery. Bar + steep, damp wooden steps = bad fall. I heard several people say this and I agree. Next was the chill. You'd think they'd put out some outdoor heaters, but none were on for the 1 1/2 hours we were there last night. Luckily they had bug spray on the bar because there were mosquitos biting. Now the good - The ladies who were waking around passing hors d'oeuvres were wonderful. They were friendly and seemed genuinely happy to meet the guests. The passed hors d'oeuvres were delicious. Fried duck, fried crab pies, fried boudin balls, fried vegetarian egg rolls, tuna tartar. The venue is beautiful. The string lights in the oak tress add a magical touch. I think I'd probably enjoy an event there more on a warmer, drier day."

Karen T. "We loved our 7-night stay at Creole Gardens. It was our first Bed and Breakfast experience and it unquestionably fulfilled our desire for local flavor and charm. The property is in a quiet neighborhood and is decorated inside and out for maximum appeal.Creighton checked us in on a Saturday and he was manning the desk again the following Saturday when we checked out. Everything went smooth and he gave us a brief tour of the property and amenities. The rooms are named. We stayed in Mansion 1. It's located up a flight of stairs at the front of the property in the main building. This room features a King Bed, a nice size private bathroom with a claw-foot tub and separate shower, and a private gallery. I couldn't stop smiling when we walked in and explored the space that would be ours to enjoy for the week. The bedding was good quality and comfortable, as were the towels in the bathroom. They provided boutique-quality containers of shampoo, conditioner and bath soap. There is a hair dryer mounted on the wall. We had brought a supply of water with us and the bedroom has a small wine cooler in the corner, which meant we had cold drinks available in-room, as we desired. (FYI, they have a few sundries such as champagne available at reception.)Breakfast was served each morning in the parlor. Monday thru Friday the hours are 7:30 - 9:30 and on the weekend they change to 8:30 - 10:30. Each day we helped ourselves to items set out. During our stay there were always bagels and bread for toasting, pieces of pastry, grits, granola, cut-up fruit and orange juice, water, tea and coffee. The hot breakfast changes daily. What is available is written on the chalk board and one of the lovely ladies working asks what you would like. Both Barbaras were amazing. Part of the great starts to our mornings was seeing their smiling faces and eating the excellent fare provided. We enjoyed sitting in the courtyard to read. Listening to the fountain gurgle while we sat among the vibrant colors and lush plants was awesome. The space can be full of sun but it's designed in a way we always found a place in the shade. This property is dog friendly but the only place we saw or heard a dog was in the courtyard. One couple was getting back from a walk with their furry friend and another time we heard one give a couple barks after it must have heard a noise.Parking is complimentary and the lot is nice. Wi-Fi is included but we had some issues connecting our phones (laptop connected easier). We reverted to using our phone data plan part of our stay. The location is an easy, one-block walk to the St. Charles streetcar line and some great places to drink/eat. It's also not far from a Walgreen's to get drinks/snacks or public transit passes. There is an Office Depot that will sell you individual stamps for postcards, however they charge fifty cents per stamp, so I'd recommend remembering to bring postage with you.FINAL ASSESSMENT: Our room provided the perfect blend of local flavor and comfort. Service was professional and friendly. The breakfasts exceeded our expectations. We aren't typically early risers (especially on vacation) but we made a point to have breakfast each morning. It was that good. We couldn't imagine having a better experience. Highly Recommended."

Glenn greeted us when we arrived, told us all about New Orleans, & presented us with a map that included several suggestions. We had such a great time, we invited a few friends back for our second experience. The house is about a 20 min walk to the French Quarter but we also had an easy time catching a cab right in front of the house or crossing the street for the bus. We've stayed in the Scarlet O'Hara Room and the Grooms Room. We enjoyed both though we found the Scarlet O'Hara room to be a little more private (the Groom's Room has a connecting pocket door to the Bride's Room). The house is quiet & comfortable too. Glen & his staff also made special accommodations for our diets for breakfasts. We hope to be back soon!"

Adrian Robert H. "I'd rate 85%Great B&B!My gf and I had the chance to visit this bed & breakfast recently. It's a wonderful house built in the late 19th century with a good mix of classic and tasteful modern touches.Rooms are furnished pretty well, and the common areas are a great place to relax over breakfast or the end of the day. There's always complementary cakes, tea, coffee around. Most drinks are very reasonably priced from a few dollars. The innkeepers are very nice and go out of their way to help you with your travel plans. The service here is great. The surrounding area is a residential neighborhood that's pretty low key, relaxing, and has a lot of cool houses. It's close to St Charles Street, which is great for walks. There is also a good number of cafes and restaurants within a mile of so. I did not expect this, but was pleasantly surprised. It isn't close to the French quarter, but it's close to the tram stops on St Charles Street, which should take approx 15-20 mins to get there, or around $10 in cab fare. Parking is also plentiful in the area.Only thing I didn't care for was the thermostat in common areas. We arrived during late December, and other guests often turned up the heater very high. This made it difficult for us to sleep at times, or woke us up in the middle of the night in uncomfortable 90 degree heat. Also, the rooms can be a bit thin. We had Darth Vader in the room next to us when we stayed, and he kept us up with some extraordinarily heavy breathing.Prices are very reasonable for what you get.Recommended."

We spent four nights there last week and it was by far, THE best BnB we've ever stayed at in terms of hospitality and comfort (and we've stayed in a few fine BnB's.)Long before we arrived, Karen kept in contact with us via phone and email. She asked if we didn't mind sharing our travel itnerary so she would know when to expect us and was a fountain of knowledge about NOLA.She only has three rooms to let and we stayed in the center one, or the purple room. It was always quiet, the room was spotless and every morning Karen came in to tidy up, refresh the tp and towels and refill the goody basket. Look at the other pics that folks have posted and you will see the set up for the rooms. There is street parking and Karen will give you a pass to post inside your windshield to keep the cops from ticketing you. These is a little table outside where you can have your coffee, free wi-fi and a small tv which we didn't even look at once.We even asked if we could use her washer to run a small load of clothes because we had run out of undies and she graciously allowed us to use hers and "No, don't buy detergent, I have lots." WOW!!! I felt like I was home and our stay was the icing on the cake to our visit in NOLA.Please be aware thought that unlike SoCal where we are from, not everything is handicapped accessible and that goes for the Dauphine. Our bathroom was lovely but a tight squeeze for two rather rotund grandparents but if you are slim and trip, well, you'll have no problem! The steps to get inside are fairly steep as are most steps all over NOLA.There is a small fridge and you would be wise to keep plenty of water in there to hydrate yourselves. We were fairly close to Bourbon Street but as Karen suggested, taking a cab is cheap and quick and saves you at the end of a hot day.I know it's off season because of the hellacious weather, but her prices the use of her beautiful BnB are out of control!I hope I didn't miss anything but Karen if you see this...my husband and I will be forever greatly for all your help, great advice, kindness and generousity and of course your beautiful home."

Adam F. "We stayed here a couple weeks ago - the price was fantastic (~100$ a night), especially for the location. The location is a *huge* selling point - it is legitimately just a couple blocks from Frenchmen street, and only a few blocks walk to the edge of the French Quarter (or, if you want to get quickly to the far side of the French Quarter or beyond, also only 3 short blocks to the new streetcar line that just opened). Couldn't be happier about the location. The hosts were also *so* friendly. It was so small (only 3 rooms), that it really felt less like a B&B, more like a well-run airbnb. They were always around if you needed anything, but not in a weird way. We actually ran into one of them at a breakfast place around the corner one day, and it wasn't awkward at all; we chatted for a bit. They're pretty cool people.. The place itself is... old. Another reason it feels more like an airbnb - it really feels like you're staying in an "authentic" New Orleanian house, by which I mean, it feels pretty old. Not falling apart old, but like, the bathtub must have been a hundred years old, and I was a *tiny* bit concerned the toilet was going to fall into a sinkhole (the floor in the bathroom was noticeably not flat). It was also quite dusty when we got in, we both developed allergies. After the first night, I mentioned it to them and they made sure the maid (who sounds like comes once a week) dusted our room extra-thoroughly, and our allergies got a lot better. They also gave us a card with a few bucks on it to use on public transportation by way of apology, which I was totally not expecting, so that was nice of them. I also have to mention, while we were there, the internet was kinda unreliable (again like staying at a person's house; ours does that too, so I can't totally fault them.) Sometimes it was fast, sometimes it was unusably slow: maybe for a minute, maybe for an hour. (edit: I have been subsequently informed, by them, that they noticed it that week too, and have never seen that happen ever again. We were just lucky, I guess, assuming you trust them, which I do.)Bed was comfortable, and I'm glad we *had* a desk, though it was a small one, so we were always fighting over who got to use it. All in all, though, I'd *totally* stay here again, for that price."

Upon checking in, the front desk agent was very friendly and was able to upgrade me to a suite thanks to my Diamond status. Unfortunately, I discovered the room didn't have the Nespresso machine advertised, and inexplicably, none of the rooms did. I let the staff know and the hotel manager arranged for a Nespresso machine to be put in my room on the 3rd day of my stay with plenty of pods, which was nice that they fixed the issue. The room wasn't the cleanest with hairs in the shower, and they told me they would re-clean the room but never did. Not a huge deal, but sadly they are just not doing a great job on cleaning. The manager said he would address in the future. The bed was super comfortable and I slept amazing. The location is clutch, too, a 5-10 minute walk from everything you'd want without having any of the noise issues.Only real issue as others have pointed out is that the hotel is old and is need of an upgrade. Drawers didn't close, floors are uneven -- I almost hurt myself going down the 2" drop going into the bathroom in the middle of the night. Nothing was a deal-breaker, but things to be aware of."

"First of all, its a pre-civil war building thats been a B & B since the 1950's, they have 5 rooms (actually each room is a bedroom and a sitting room, quite large actually) and its safe to describe them as possessing plenty of unique old world charm. Having said that, if you're expecting the Hilton or similar, you'll be very unhappy. The host is terrific and has clearly been at it for a while, the rooms were clean and well appointed in their own funky way. The bathroom in our case perhaps was a closet in a past life and is now fitted with a tub/shower, toilet and small sink and I dare say you could not fit more than that into it. But it was clean and well provisioned. Our room had a microwave, coffee pot and small dorm style refrigerator in it. Parking is on the street and its free and plenty of it. The location on Magazine street is as safe as anywhere in NOLA but still you need to be careful. I think this place offers good value and the host is great. There was a last minute cancellation that popped up, the reviews and price was right, so we took a chance on the B&B route. The Terrell House is a 3 story Italianate mansion built in 1857 (if I remembered that correctly) and perfectly hidden in plain sight on one of Uptown's main streets, Magazine. You're a short streetcar or Uber into the CBD or French Quarter and an equally brisk walk the other direction uptown to Garden District attractions. Beyond the main house rooms, there are also accommodations in the carriage house overlooking the courtyard as well as suites at the Creole house. There seemed to be a size and price for just about any traveler. Our room ended up being in the carriage house and was spotless, quiet and comfortable. The room came with everything you'd expect in a hotel room plus toiletries, coffee, snacks, water and sodas gratis. Service was excellent throughout our stay. They helped us grab luggage and unload the car as well as point me to open street parking nearby. Your stay also includes a complimentary breakfast which is not to be missed. Our two mornings had perfect starts thanks to a fantastic breakfast spread and visiting with other travelers. As long as there's an open room, I'm fairly certain the Terrell House will now be on our must stay list when heading to New Orleans."

Peter D. "When I chose to stay at the Elysian Fields Inn, I assumed the best part about the place would be the location. Because Brad Pitt lives only five blocks away, and often rides his bike past.*But even if you're not the teenybopper I am, you're going to love the Marigny. It's one of the liveliest, most fun neighborhoods in New Orleans. You're a block off Frenchmen Street, which is perhaps my favorite part of the entire city. With Snug Harbor, d.b.a.,** The Blue Nile and more, you will ALWAYS have a great live band to check out. And you're right near the French Quarter, but without having to deal with the craziness at all hours; in my opinion, the best of both worlds. I didn't really have any expectations beyond location, but as it turned out, the Elysian Fields Inn was an excellent decision all around. The inn itself is a gorgeous old mansion. We opted for one of the more affordable guest rooms (as that's all we could handle), and even though it wasn't enormous, it was definitely large enough for two. The room was beautiful and well-maintained, with plenty of storage space and very high ceilings (I love that). The whole place is fully wired for wi/fi, and there is even a computer for communal use in the great room. They have an extensive collection of books on the blues, and even a little library of movies should you decide to stay in (you won't). Now, normally when breakfast is "included," I assume the worst. Coming in, I figured our only options would be continental, and predictably crappy. However, although they do have pastries (delicious!) and coffee and orange juice, you also have a choice between a cold or hot breakfast each day. The cold was always fresh fruit, yogurt and granola, and the hot varied from day to day. There was bacon, eggs and toast one day, croissant French toast another, and buttermilk pancakes from scratch (with real maple syrup) on another. All cooked to order whenever you got up (between 8 and 10), all delicious. I suggest you go with the cold breakfast, however, because if you're doing it right, you should be eating ridiculously rich food at lunch and dinner, and you'll want to balance it out. The inn is also dog-friendly. And if you don't have a dog, don't feel bad, because you can play with Zeke. He's an ENORMOUS yellow lab/golden retriever, and he's mild-mannered and lovable. There's also a cat named Gonzo, if you're one of those freaks that likes cats more than dogs. For us, staying at the Elysian Fields Inn was like staying with family. But without having to worry about your aunt bitching at you for coming home drunk at 4 am. The proprietors, Leigh and Jim, are completely awesome, and clearly love the city. Chat them up and you might learn a thing or two.*** Lovely people, lovely place, lovely price. I'm extremely glad I chose to stay here. ________*If you stay at Elysian Fields, and you don't see Brad Pitt, please do not come crying to me. There are no guarantees in this life.**The real one, not the NYC knockoffs. ***For instance, Snug Harbor's burger is exactly the same as Port of Call's, without the wait."

Veronica S. "I recently stayed here for a week with a few coworkers while working at a conference in town, and so glad we did. The house is beautiful and comfortable. Each suite is tastefully decorated with big comfortable beds, ceiling fans, desks, power strips and all the amenities you need. (If you run low or forgot some person items, a large drugstore is within walking distance.) There's complimentary wifi for guests throughout the house (may be weaker in some rooms). The shower pressure is good. The entire house is kept at a good temperature (i.e., cooler than outdoors but not icy like the convention center). The owner and innkeeper were very friendly, caring and attentive without being intrusive. The daily coffee, fresh fruit and hot breakfast gave our team a great start to each busy workday. In the evenings, there were beers, wine and a lovely porch where we could unwind. Just a note: There are two dogs in the house. They're very well behaved, but the owners/innkeeper will keep them out of the common area if you're not a dog person. The location of the house is very convenient for getting to the convention center, parks, shopping, dining and other popular tourist destinations, but just far enough from the party scene, which is perfect IMO. I would stay here again when I return for business or pleasure."

Laura M. "this place was awesome. very grateful to go to an event here while in New Orleans. The home itself was stunning, and we fit 500+ people in the back yard area. It's a bit outside of the French quarter (have to drive), but still doable. if you have a reason to visit, stop by! Would be a magnificent location for a wedding."

Shannon S. "You get what you pay for and this place even offers a bit more. I had several friends that worked in this establishment and for the price and location its hard to beat if all you need is a place to sleep and keep your stuff. This is more of a hostel type environment than a bed & breakfast except you get the option of private rooms. Everything is really basic here and there are no TV's or telephones in the room (if you're visiting New Orleans why would you need those things anyway?). Compared to most other hotels and guesthouses this place is a good value but it certainly isn't anything fancy. They have a small pool and usually there's an interesting cast of characters around to make friends with."

Ginger D. "Great morning out fishing with Colby, the new owner. Nice guy and very knowledgeable of the area and the fish...we had caught our limit by 7:30! When we got back in, our fish were cleaned and we were served delicious jambalaya plus we got to check out the newly remodeled rooms (we stayed elsewhere). This would be a great destination for a guys trip, families, fishing couples, you name it."
