Needed to be cleaned up some, the water features especially. It's a nice area to stroll around if they'd reopen everything tho. Pretty and nice structures around.

Big Lake in City Park, in front of the museum is a peaceful walk. The chime tree is relaxing to do some stretching or yoga. The walk around is 3/4 of a mile. There is a place to rent group bicycles, kayaks. The tulips during February and at the beginning of March are beautiful to look at. Truly, a sight to behold. On any given day, you can see all sorts of people walking the path, enjoying the sights, having a picnic, practicing yoga or tai chi. Even just sitting on one of the many benches people and duck watching. The fountain in the middle of the lake is beautiful. The sounds from the chime tree are like magical fairies. This is well loved and well used by the community. I am very happy to have witnessed this beautiful site and to be able to use it any time I need or want to.

Situated just outside of the New Orleans Museum of Art in City Park, Big Lake features a 3/4 mile walking track, some lovely water features, a boat rental booth, some open green space and a glorious old oak tree with many melodic wind-chimes attached which is known as "The Singing Tree". The are a few pieces of art installed around the lake, as well as some benches, a tiny nature walk with a seating area for group talks and a couple of water fountains. There are always plenty of birds, tons of Louisiana flora and fauna and many places to throw a blanket down and relax.I LOVE Big Lake.

I heart this park/walking trail for so many reasons, here are just a few: -it's FREE-Lots of random people to watch-mother nature in all her glory-birds, turtles, fish oh my-Serenity in 3, 2, 1 yeah that's it-access to the NOLA-beautifully landscaped walking trail -is 1 of the largest parking in the GNO area-Lots of free parking -doggie fountains-cool wind chimes in the large oak tree -kayaking, biking, canoeing, row-boating (rentals)-steps away from The BayouHumph!!!! I can on and on, but I won't. 3/4 of a mile long, this park is just what you need to motivate you to get your walk on. Benches are strategically placed along the trail just in case you want to sit or break during your stroll. One side of the trial is for wheels & the other for feet. Great designation, helps walkers & riders stay in there lane & also helps with passage as needed. Any given time of the day you can run into a family or individuals taking advantage of the scenery, landscape & beautifully kept grounds. There's also a small area on the walking trail dedicated to the trees in the area. A little plaque details the various trees that line the trail & cascade throughout. Great bit of "just because" information. I can be found here on a regular basis whether I'm 'walking it out' or just 'hanging out', it's quite the place to clear your mind & just sit to enjoy the view.

I wandered all the way around the Big Lake on Saturday at dusk with the wild junior nieces and am so glad I did. It was a gorgeous night for a walk and it was really wonderful to see the variety of folks out enjoying the weather, from multi-generational families to young lovers and all races all enjoying the same space. The nieces were horrified by all the bird poop where the water fowl roost at night. Yay wildlife, I guess. They chatted with a boat rental person about the paddle boats...turns out the birds don't even try to climb in those. They performed on the ministage and just ran around like wild monkeys. And despite their lame efforts, no one was pushed into/ fell into the water.Loved seeing the Wave sculpture again. Restored in 2014, the sculpture was originally at the 84 World's Fair and was just found again. It looks wonderful. The tulips (see separate review) were gorgeous along the edge of the lake, closest to the museum. What a relaxing space...

My lovely Yelper lady friends have covered the highlights of the Big Lake! All I can do is reiterate what they have said which is that this is a wonderful lake in the middle of city park. One of the many things I love about city park is that it is well utilized by the community. I have taken many a walk around the big lake and have seen bikers, roller blades, runners, and fellow walkers all enjoying this scenic area! One time around is 3/4 a mile so people usually go around the track more than once. There is an area around the big lake where you can rent the low bicycles, multi person bicycles with a roof, and even the paddle boats! There is even a separate vendor who has a gondola (another romantic option). And of course there is the tree wth the chimes! Ahh, such a beautiful way to spend a day under that tree and hear the melodic chimes singing with the wind!Oh, there is also a fountain in the middle of the lake with plenty of wildlife, birds, turtles and other animals abound! Plus there is a little spot where the water falls which can be a cute picture spot!If you get tired there are many benches to rest for a bit and even a pebble path to look at native plants and flowers. And there is a pathway to cross the street to the larger walking path and picnic tables!Enjoy!

Well, I didn't even know this lake had a name, much less that it was reviewable. This is a beautiful spot located right by the New Orleans Museum of Art at City Park. It's a spot where people come to relax and take in the scenery or paddle around on a kayak. I most recently found myself here when I came to check out the tulips, which are planted annually next to the lake. You can sit on the side and enjoy and a nice day and watch people boat around in the water and watch the ducks waddle back and forth.
