Big Dog Fishing Charters

My wife and I had a great day on the water. We would have been happy with fish or no fish. Our captain was great. He knows the spots to go to. In our case persistance pays off. We limited out and have had some fantastic meals from the fish since. Will be going back.

We booked a 2-day guided trip for four to catch redfish. We were disappointed, to say the least.We all know how to fish, so were not expecting a lot of help with equipment or baiting hooks.However, having fished charters in Florida, Alaska, and Hawaii, this is the firsttime we have ever had to compete with our guide to catch fish. Never before have we even been with a guide who actively fished, but instead took care of his guests and kept them on the fish.The Captain stood in the prime angler's spot on the front deck next to the trolling motor - he had a remote, but chose not to use it, for what ever reason. His line was always the first one in the water, and he fished virtually every new area ahead of any of those of us paying for the trip. He did, reluctantly, put his gear aside for a quick reset if one of us asked for help, or to net a fish for us. Otherwise, it was as if he was going fishing, and we just rode out on the boat with him.He never put us in any area where there was a lot of activity; we would fish a non-productive area until we would finally all sit down and wait for him to look for another spot. We did catch some fish, but not much compared to the photos on their website of other groups with their captains on those same dates. Also, he did not dress the flounder properly that we caught, and the restaurant couldn't cook it for us. The second day, we just gave him the fish we did catch; I think he caught about 5 himself, and the rest of us caught about that many.With a paid trip for four, one of us had to sit out since the Captain kept fishing ahead of us.I was offered minimal compensation not to post this review. I told the owner I would not post it if they wanted to refund 1 full day of guided fishing as we had paid for two. They declined, so here it is.

Had a great time fishing with josh. We almost caught our limit but I'll blame user error on that one. Caught some fish, saw some gators, had a blast over all. I will definitely be going with them again. Tip: for some reason you land the most fish off the back with josh.

If you are looking for the best fishing trip or a family event in Lafitte, this is the best! Susan and David are wonderful! David has fished the waters in Lafitte his whole life and his knowledge his amazing. You will have a great time on the water Capt David! Susan will help you with booking your fishing trip or a family/friend gathering event. The waterfront lodge has been in their family for years and just recently renovated. You will truly feel welcome at Big Dog Fishing located on the bayou, in the historical town of Jean Lafitte, the best fishing in New Orleans the surrounding area! You will never forget the time you spend with Big Dog Fishing. A memory of a lifetime you will share with everyone you know.

My family-and-friends group of 7 spent 3 nights in their newly remodeled cabin. Wow! Really luxe digs for "down on the bayou." Susan and Dave run a terrific service and provide everything for a big group to enjoy their fishing trip. I fished mostly with Dave during our time there and I really recommend him as a guide. He put us right on the fish and was a pleasure to hang out with. Made and already fun trip even more fun. He was great company. I can't recommend Dave and Susan highly enough. They do such a good job with everything and pay close attention to detail. I'm not an easy guy to please, and they exceeded expectations on all fronts.

Captain David was an amazing guide and his wife Susan was very personable over the phone and was able to hook up a group of 4 of us to go out fishing for red fish. Two of us where from out of state and 2 locals which one stated "was on of the best fishing days he's had in his life in LA". The boat ride was a little chilly but worth every second of the ride over, we were able to hook into a red fish within minutes, and the bite was crazy! Talk about a fish every cast for one of the group! We easily limited out and even had several nice "bulls". While I personally have the policy "you catch it you clean it", Captain David did the dirty work for us and cleaned and bagged all 25 fish for our group.

Highly HIGHLY recommend BIG Dog Charters......Susan was very helpful in setting up our trip.....Capt Dave is a fabulous guide and terrific host!!!!

We had a great time with Captain Barry! He was so knowledgeable and took time to help us make a great catch. After catching, he cleaned them, and we took them to a restaurant pretty close and they prepared the fish! It was such a great experience!

6 of us went down for my brother's bachelor party and had a great time redfishing with Capt. Barry and Capt. Jason. We will most definitely be back and soon.

I have been on multiple charter fishing trips but this was my worst experience ever. I will never go fishing in Lafitte again nor would I recommend any black people to go to this company. The captain was not friendly at all. He act like he didn't know where the fish were. He didn't even interact with the group. We had to basically ask him questions and pull answers out of him. I'm appalled and will never utilize this company again.
