Dwana Makeba is the owner and key stylist of Beauty on de Bayou Natural Hair Salon located in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was bo
My beautiful, thick hair before Dwana put her claws in it. Each lock was uniform in size.
Locks linked together like a chain linked fence! I'm so disappointed in her!
Call quint for your next haircut 5049390251
More locks clumped together. She got lazy and began to just grab locks and knot them
I managed to untangle the mess Dwana caused and did interlocking correctly. It will take months to correct her mess!
After one wash, all my "interlocks" were undone. It's so obvious that she palmed rolled this section.
I call them tree trunks because that's what they look like. Dwana was so careless and sloppy with her work!
The long strands was the length my hair before butcher on the bayou chopped it off. My hair is so uneven.
Chain of locks. This is the worst hair disaster I've ever had!

Goddess Braids
A tangled mess! She joined locks that didn't need to be joined.
This style (if you want to call it that) was $80. Only thing included was cut & what you see. Taken 20 mins after appt
Really, Dwana? I can't believe you did this to me!
A chunk of locks she grabbed and Palm rolled. She was supposed to separate each one and interlock them.
More clumps. These clumps are all over my head! If I don't correct them, they'll grow into huge locks and that's not what I want!
Total flop :-/
The WORST "style" I've ever paid for...EVER
Another huge section she carelessly grabbed, knotted, and palm rolled.
Broken hair.
Incredibly tangled and knotted locks. This is NOT how to interlock locks!

Overpriced and seemingly good customer service until you ask them (specifically Quint da Barber) to redo something. My baby locs are a white mess after sweating in NOLA heat and doing light exercise, my normal routine. I've been natural over 7 years and exercised every now and again--never after getting my hair done has it turned white. He claims it was my fault--that sweat will make your hair turn white after a retwist. That's the silliest thing I have heard. IF YOU USE TOO MUCH PRODUCT YOUR HAIR WILL TURN WHITE. Simple. $67 and I can't even have my hair corrected.

Got my locs washed, retwisted, & got new ones on the back & sides started by Dwana. Then another woman whose name I can't remember braided my locs. Then got a line up by Quint. They were all extremely caring, accommodating, took their time, & charged me a fair price. The atmosphere in the shop was very warm and familial, I'd definitely come back here again when I'm in town, and recommend it to everyone else.Only thing is that this address is incorrect, their new address is 5918 Timoleon St, New Orleans, LA 70126

With my daughter being so far from home ( she's a college student at Xavier), one of the things that goes neglected is her locked hair. Dwana perfectly washed, twisted and styled her hair in under 2 hours and helped her get back to campus ( she has no car). I was able to call her on FaceTime and she was knowledgable and kind and very patient with my daughter and I. She made helpful recommendations for her to care for her hair. A bit pricier than we are used to paying from here in Rhode Island, but still good work.

Give credit where credit is due...Finally I found a place that my vibe connected with to wash & retwist my dreads.Deboara (spelling?) was completely hospitable, nice, and most important... went straight down to business.Within the 2nd wash my hair felt a lot lighter and revived cause yes, it was dirty, but this was a quicker reaction than the norm.Fast foward to the end... my hair not only looked dominant, but with the owners own products used, I felt fresh and it smelled F*#@ing Great!!!The bonus are the stores that surround the area, like the Jamaican spot, McHardy's chicken, Record store, and the book store that just felt right to step into.I'll definitely be back to get my hair done again, plus get some hair products.I applaud!!!

My family and I just finished a fabulous week vacation in New Orleans. My daughter had to get corn rows while she was there. My friends recommended Beauty on the Bayou as it was in their neighborhood. I was just expected basic braiding, Nita went above and beyond our expectations! My daughters hair is truly a work of art. The lovely ladies in the shop also shared their truly amazing Katrina stories. It will be hard to find a place to match the expertise and the warm southern hospitality in California.

I called yesterday morning to set up an appointment with someone to get my hair washed and flat ironed. I called both numbers listed on the salon's site, but got no answer. No problem there, but someone then called me back saying their name was "Lorna" from Beauty On The Bayou. I told her I was calling to get the price of a wash and flat iron service, because I was interested in having my hair done there, and she gave me the number to another employee at the shop. "Lorna" then told me, "Tell her (the other employee) that Dawana gave you her number-I'm the owner". I thought this was odd, because she failed to mention her real name and position when she introduced herself, but I digress. I set up the appointment for 5:00 pm the following day. I received a confirmation phone call making sure my appointment was kept. I got there at 5:01 pm, after class, and the stylist was just starting to braid another client's hair! I saw this, and she asked "You don't mind waiting, do you?" I told her no, thinking I wouldn't wait longer than 20-30 minutes. ONE HOUR went by, and I was still sitting there. Honestly, the only reason I even stayed as long as I did was to see if she'd start on my hair before the hour was up, but, unfortunately that wasn't the case. I left, she called and asked if I wanted to reschedule. I told her I was so turned off by the entire experience that I don't see myself going back to the salon for any service. If you value your time, and a certain level of professionalism, I suggest you take your time and money elsewhere.

For my appointment,I waited over an hour. When I was making another appointment, the price jumped by $25.00 . This was a month apart,so they had no explanation. The shop is also not kept up. They were once in a better place, and do not like where they are.

I've gotten my hair done here three times, each time in a kinky twist style. The first two times, I got it done by the owner, Dwana. My hair was perfect, lasted in great condition for 2 months and I was happy with everything. If I was rating purely on those experiences, I would give it 5 stars. The third time, I was styled by another woman. She was 20 minutes late, talked to a friend the entire time, and parted huge sections of my hair for the twists because my hair was "thicker than [she] thought it would be." Because the sections were so big, my hair was fuzzy and unkempt looking in two weeks. I took it out a week later, feeling like I'd wasted my money. If I could guarantee that only Dwana would do my hair, I'd go back every time without fail. But the fact that I was scheduled for this other young lady who did a shoddy job really put me off. I would go back, but only to the owner.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Breanna for over 2 years. I first began seeing her for sew-in extensions and eventually I no longer needed the extensions. She has kept my hair healthy and growing and I thank God for her growing gentle hands. I love that fact that this is a chemical-free salon and all of the stylist have a shared love of healthy hair. The only thing that saddens me is that I can't take Bre with me when I'm working out of town. Give this salon a shot, your hair will thank you!

I was a walk-in and they were able to give me a two strand twist with braids on the side on the same day in under three hours! I have pretty thick and long natural type 4 hair. Wonderful service, wonderful people, and very professional atmosphere. I will definitely come back next time I'm in Louisiana.
