Had a flat tire on a Saturday morning. Mr. Tommy promptly repaired the flat for a very reasonable $20.

Tommie has been running Banks St Service station for 30-40 years. He is fair and honest and his work quality. He has been keeping my cars serviced for 10 years. I trust him. He has always done well by me.

Mkay, let me start by saying this is an initial rant. I know, not entirely fair, but damnit- I'm frustrated. I'll settle up once all is said and done. So, my car broke (not suprising, it's a piece of crap). Recommended by a neighbor, we stopped in at Banks St to ask them to check it out. We live blocks away, so they were happy to make a house call to check it out. Cool! $250 for a new fuel pump and labor? You'll even tow my car down now? Awesome! Done in a day or two? Hell yes! ...Over a week later? Gr. It'll be ready this afternoon? For a meer $800! Ahhhh! That's as much as we paid for the stupid car! So, we dropped in to have a chat about it. Turns out the $250 fuel pump would be more like $400. Oh, and the new fuel injection is another $400. An invoice? Oh, yeah... Let me go find it. Suprise, there isn't one. Interesting, the parts were quoted as $300 worth of the expense, but I priced them at about $160 for the most expensive ones and their shipping. I know you need a markup, but c'mon. Most frustrating part of all of it? I may be a girl, but I know a thing or two about cars. I know more about them than my boyfriend does. I diagnosed the problem, and know what it takes to fix. A fuel pump? A pain in the ass. A fuel injector? a $20 part and 10 minutes of your life, most of that putting the air filter back into place. I once built a '67 RS SS Camaro from the ground up. If I still had the tools, believe me, I would fix it myself.

I've heard great things about this place and after giving lots of money to another Midcity mechanic, I will definitely be back. I rolled in around 1:30 on a Monday without an appointment due to concern about excessive vibration under the hood. Although they seemed busy, Tommie checked out my car, quickly identified the problem and called his parts dealer to get a quote. Quote was reasonable and they said they could fix it for me right then. I went down the street to chill, and two hours later my car was done. So happy with the expedited, friendly service. I will be back!

Mr. Tommie is just the best! We've been going to him for years! We have an old clunker Volvo and a new-model Scion hatchback, and he's able to work on both! We've gotten oil changes, tire plugs, new tires, muffler problems... he's just a really kind, simple man who is a good mechanic. Especially if you bring him chocolate chip cookies and talk shop with him every once in a while (or like once), you're in with him. By no means is it a frilly shop with flashy tools or a seating area- it's straight New Orleans flavor, and you're gonna sit on the curb or a stool or walk across the street to get a beer at the Banks St. bar while you wait. But he'll pretty much do anything while you wait!Another couple of things that are really nice: he'll show you how to fix a couple of things and will teach you something or another if you ask him- it's awesome. He also is willing to work within a price range, which is really nice. For our old clunker, with tons and tons of problems, every 6 months or so we go in with about $200 and say "Fix whatever you can and keep it running, but we only got $200 to spend," and sure enough, we'll get it back running more smooth again! I recommend this place to everyone and won't ever go anywhere else. This place is a gem of Mid City, people. Mr. Tommie sticks with it despite tremendous loss and trauma in his life, and I'm happy to stick with him for as long as he'll be there.

Honest hard-working mechanics-very reasonably priced. If you want paperwork, let Tommy know at the start. The business owner actually gets his hands dirty fixing cars along side his mechanics!

Scam. Save your time and money. Tried charging me $1500 for a $600 job. I towed my car elsewhere and save hundreds of dollars.

Terrible. Didn't actually fix the problem and charged $700. Don't go here for any major repairs. And definitely don't pay any cash deposits up front. What a scam.

USE THESE MECHANICS AT YOUR OWN RISKif you are foolish enough to use them, insist upon a receipt. I used these mechanics for minor repairs before and was beyond disappointed with the work they did this last time. (it will be the last time I ever use them) I had an oil leak repaired by them and it continued to leak. I took it somewhere else and the mechanic was horrified at what he saw when he took it apart. He took pictures of it for me and explained that they had used silicone (the black stuff, which quickly turns brittle) and the yellow material seen is weather stripping that is used in houses. He explained that if even a little bit of that brittle silicone had gotten into my engine it would have ruined it. These knuckleheads at Banks Street Service Station used silicone and weather stripping instead of a gasket.again....USE THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
