Nice environment and good people. I liked the energy there and it really helped with the tension held in my lower body

I've never gone to yoga classes where they teach alignment so well. Turns out I was doing a lot of yoga poses incorrectly, which could have led to injuries. The instructors here walk around the room and adjust you, AND they teach you how to align correctly, to begin with. I still use what I've learned at Balance even when I'm doing yoga at home.

I am coming in from out of town, and requested help for registering two people for a class at this studio. I'm trying to surprise someone on their birthday with a yoga class. Meredith, the person who responded to my emails, did not seem interested in my business. Instead of helping me, she told me I had to register on my own.I have MindBody, I know how it works. I attempted to register, but the class time was listed wrong on MBO. I also know that I can register only myself through MindBody. I was requesting help to add a second person, that I would pay for. Meredith declined to help.

Joined this studio using the 10-class groupon and tried a variety of classes (mostly vinyasa) with different instructors, who all offered something different. Did Tracey's class a few times which were great. The studio has 2 yoga rooms on nice wooden floors, offers mats to borrow and complimentary towels. Also with recent unfortunate break-ins, as well in the neighboring businesses, the studio has installed new locks and security measures, and is working with local NOPD. Just don't keep your valuables in the cubbies during class.

This place has a little bit of everything for everyone. There are a couple rooms within the building, which is a converted home-turned-yoga-studio. I actually really like the atmosphere that this transformation lends to the space. Rather than the classes taking place in a sterile, commercial-feeling multi-purpose room with tons of mirrors, they happen in what are actual rooms, each of which has real hardwood floors, as well as big, beautiful windows, which allow natural light to enter and enhance the mood of whatever class your attending. The staff and instructors are all very friendly, and each of them is willing to help you get the best out of your practice without ever being condescending, which is definitely a problem I've encountered at a few other studios. I'd recommend attending one class of a few of the different instructors before deciding upon whose classes you'd like to attend on a regular basis. If you're a new student, check out their $35 dollar pass for 5 classes. You can purchase it from their website after making an account, and will allow you to hop from instructor to instructor to make that decision.

Was in town for a week and greatly needed to practice. I hadn't practiced in about 2 weeks prior to my trip due to my having a seriously crazy and full several work weeks prior to traveling. My husband and I began searching for a studio before we left and he came upon BY&W. I read about the space, teachers etc. I saved it on my list in the MINDBODY app. I scheduled my class for Thursday with AJ I believe is his name, a 75 minute class. I could not wait as my body was screaming for stretching and mindful movement. Upon arrival I was greeted by a lovely young woman and was guided around to the space where the class would take place. I was about 20 minuets early and had time to meditate and get ready. As the students came in, each one greeted me with a warm smile and a welcome! That was so important to me because it's what I needed to feel safe. As we were all setting up in comes this beautiful creature by the name of AJ (I think, so bad with names!), and he was so delightful! He explained the changes happening with the moon phases and gave us words of encouragement and advice, then began the class. He asked if there were anything specific we'd like to work on and on we went. He was so clear in directions and I loved that he walked around and helped with adjusting me & others. I was so happy! My 1st 75 minute class and I was in heaven! I will definitely be back when we return to New Orleans. Such a beautiful experience. Thank you! I'm so happy you exist! I truly look forward to another visit.

I like this studio a lot. They don't charge for mats or hair ties or anything that makes it feel... um... unwelcoming? It's still a business, but they way they conduct themselves (often with donation based tea and snacks) just feels friendly and kind. Everyone says hi.I love Tracey's classes. None of the others fit with my schedule, sadly... so I can't speak on the other teachers... but Tracey is great. Her music taste is eclectic. Her dharma talks can be a little long, but I always get something good out of them. Her hand on adjustments are amazing. She has always (when I've been there) finished with a yoga nidra session which is good for me as a person who likes the more active parts of my yoga and often neglects the other aspects of practice. What else can I say... she is funny and approachable and pushes you in all the right ways without ever making you feel uncomfortable. Big fan!!!

I've kinda sorta dabbled in yoga for the past ten years - I've tried different types in many different states, but was always looking for a workout if I was going to spend $15/class and yoga just didn't seem to cut it for me. Plus I was a poor student at the time. Now I find myself in NOLA for the time being and looking for a way to compliment my running to off set some injuries I developed and to give some balance and remove some stress from my life. Balance Yoga actually gives me all the things I've been looking for - a serious workout, beautiful space, awesome teachers, and a peaceful feeling of bliss every time I leave the studio. My favorite teachers are Leslie, AJ, and Tracy, they're all unique and challenge you in different ways. I'm always sore after Leslie's classes.Classes can sometimes be tough (even the beginner yoga classes and level 1 classes), but they offer modifications and there's never anything wrong with coming into child's pose when you just can't do another vinyasa. All in all, I'm loving it. I got the unlimited groupon and will be getting a membership so I can go whenever I can fit it into my schedule. If you're looking for an awesome yoga studio, check them out.

Balance Yoga just opened in this Mid-City location and it is beautiful. They did a wonderful job with a lovely old house, complete with large windows, fireplaces and pocket doors. Because of the huge windows, there is a lot of natural light. While I really like that, I kind of wish they'd put something over them so people waiting outside at Mandina's or Ruby Slipper can't see in. They offer several different types of yoga, even Kundalini, which I haven't seen in New Orleans since Katrina! The instructors are friendly and help you with your poses. Early morning classes, evening classes, Sunday classes, community (by donation) classes, they've got it all.

I've been to Balance for two separate reasons, and I was pleased with the results of both.1. Aryuvedic Consultation with Jessica Blanchard - I wholeheartedly recommend this to any person out there who is having health concerns and looking for a different, holistic approach, or for those of you like myself who need someone to help them "clean up" their current diet and lifestyle. Jessica is extremely knowledgeable and direct. I have been adhering by my new nutrition and stress relief regiment for the past few weeks and I honestly feel better than I have in months. 2. Restorative Yoga Classes - I've taken a few restorative yoga classes here and I've found them to be extremely helpful. Restorative classes are typically not my cup of tea. I'm a lover of the flow. I often feel like if I'm not super sweaty at the end, it isn't a proper yoga class. As a teacher though, I know that it is just as important to engage in slower, more meditative and restful types of yoga as well. Although I'm typically resistant to restorative, I am blossoming into a prop-loving, leg-resting, eye-mask-wearing, deep-breathing relaxation pro.
