I love this place! They go above and beyond to help these animals and find them amazing homes! I adopted from this shelter- it was a small process but it was so worth it. I recommend anyone who is looking for a new animal family member to check this shelter out!!

They really care about animals! Thank y'all for helping us adopt Missy and Monkey. Super sweet older mother daughter pair that ARNO made sure were adopted together bc they are bonded pair. They did through check with our vet to make sure we are doing preventatives and vaccines, and then processed our application quickly. The foster mom and dad brought the pups over to nearby park for first meet in greet with our existing dog. Bonus: Missy had some skin issues soon after we adopted her and ARNO got us in to see their vet for free. Thank you all

This is a great organization.I adopted a cat from this group about two years ago. Volunteers provide foster homes to some pets until they can be placed in forever homes. The organization is non profit, so upon adoption, they ask for a donation.I found my future kitty on Craig's list. I contacted her foster parent and we set up a meeting, so that I could meet the cat. I got to meet her in her own foster environment, so she was comfortable. There was no pressure to adopt.I am so happy that I adopted through ARNO. Whenever you are looking for a new pet, please look at groups like ARNO and LASPCA first. There are so many animals out there that needs good homes.

This is such a fabulous rescue organization. The staff is caring, the volunteer leads like Brook are very dedicated to the pets and we just love walking dogs there weekly b/c of all of these things plus more. The kitties seem content with their spaces and the pups are so happy to meet us when it is walk/potty time. All the animals have plenty of water, food, and treats plus toys that are donated and vetted for germs etc. Please consider adopting, NOT shopping, for your forever fur friend here.

I adopted my Little Dude from ARNO in April. I visited once and fell in love with this quiet little beagle mix -- the only dog not going crazy in his crate. The staff was very helpful and very thorough. Someone came to my apartment to talk with me before I was approved, and she spent quite a bit of time with me. There were some hoops to jump through but I didn't mind because I knew they wanted the perfect home for this beautiful boy. He had been taken home by someone else a month or two before and had been returned after only one night. They wanted to make sure that didn't happen again. It didn't. I was approved to adopt and he came home with me shortly after. They had a lot of rules about medical treatment and a vet checkup, etc. Stuart had heartworms and ARNO paid for his treatment. We also had some behavior problems in the weeks after he came home with me (he even peed on my bed -- repeatedly) and I once called ARNO in tears, worried that I wasn't a good fit and no knowing what to do. ARNO sent a trainer to my home. She spent about an hour with us, talking to me about the behavior issues and things I could do to help him settle in and feel at home. Today, Stuart (aka Little Dude) is happy and healthy. He's not so quiet anymore and he's getting over many of the fears he developed from being homeless and probably abused at an early age. He has a home and a human who adores him and the two times he got away from me he didn't go more than 50ft and then waited for me so he also knows he can trust me and I'm not abandoning him. I have ARNO to thank. I see some reviews criticizing Ginnie. I don't know her but she's one person. I've been working for more than three decades and every business has someone (usually more than one) who doesn't play well with others. I would caution you to look at their purpose and their business model and know that their first priority is the health and safety of those babies who they have promised to protect and care for. No amount of entitlement or whining will ever make them stray from that mission. And if you're truly committed to finding a forever family member, you'll understand that not every animal is perfect for you.

I love animals, and I love to rescue them. this is a no kill shelter, and they do what they can. I realize that its tough when you have this many animals, and it saddens me to think that so many are homeless.so this past october we raised funds to help ARNO, and we came by to help walk the dogs. it was quite an experience, and I really enjoyed helping out. In fact we had all decided as a mardigras krewe to make this a monthly thing, but then things changed.one of my krewe members applied to adopt, and we were all very very excited. the dog had been showcased for training, and his name was jax. he is a pit bull puppy with lots of energy. My krewe member applied. he had previously been approved to adopt thru the sula foundation, which is mostly pits, and when the pup was ready, they realized he was sick, and my friend didn't get to adopt. so it was off to ARNO after every krewe member pushed him to adopt jax.what happened was pretty rude. the adoptions director denied his application and then proceeded to label him and tell him that he shouldn't own animals. She never met him, she only emailed back and forth. In the meantime he had gone and walked him, met him, and anxiously waited to hear back.there are ways to deny someone, like maybe say "dog has been adopted" but to actually accuse someone of bait and switch? tells me that this woman really shouldn't be running this place. I now wonder how long those dogs and cats end up there in this stable. I am very disappointed that accusations came out of this place. that has to be the most unprofessional letter I have ever read. I will pick another rescue group to donate to next time. Its unfortunate that in a world where people dump animals, that they didn't consider my friend for his real intentions. to own and care and nurture a puppy that would have had a great life with my friend.this really saddens me. its the holidays, and those poor animals. cold, caged and waiting for love. Please take more consideration in your screening process and learn the art of conversation. I will never donate to this group again, and will pray that the animals be saved, and the ones that are NOT adoptable? be put down. thats cruel.wishing you the best. your volunteers and animals are great. ginnie? is not.

These guys put me through a comprehensive approval process, but the more I thought about, the better it made me feel. These volunteers are passionate about their charges and finding a suitable home deserves proper respect for a no kill shelter.I respect the care they take and the dedication of their volunteers. Also, I love my new cat Boo! He's well trained and very affectionate. I have to believe it's because of the care he received from ARNO.

Extensive and intrusive application process. There is one thing to be proactive about protecting animals, there is quite another to put possible owners through the wringer just so you can feel better about yourself. This process IMHO falls under the latter. Even after going through the hours long back and forth process did not hear back from them. Think there is just a bit of ageism at work here. I am 78 and applied for an animal with the intent that the new pet would survive with and provide companionship with my thirteen year younger spouse. Our last pet was adopted in my late sixties and unfortunately I survived Red Dog. One might ask whether they really want to adopt out pets...

Back in March of 2010 I adopted the most precious 2 year old cat from Hope for Animals. Unfortunately he recently developed diabetes and ended up passing away on Katrina Day. We were devastated including his best cat friend who is very depressed looking and calling for him. My cats never ever ever go outside unless in a carrier. They eat the highest quality healthiest cat food on the market. They only drink bottled water and see the vet if they are ill. I was looking for a specific cat and found one I was interested in seeing at Animal Rescue of New Orleans. I was shocked at the lengthy application and even the mention of a home visit. I received a call from Animal Rescue of New Orleans that had a Chicago phone number. She began chastising me for not taking my cat, that I have had since he was 6 weeks old and is now 12 years to the vet since 2017. Let's not forget we have been under a covid emergency for over 2 1/2 years and the cat is not sick. She said she couldn't allow the cat they have locked in a cage be adopted to a household with a cat that rabies shot is pass due. Lets due a little risk assessment here. 12 year old cat that never goes outside, or around any outside animals that has a ZERO chance of contracting rabies to the risk of developing Injection-site sarcomas because of receiving an unnecessary injection. Who really loses is the poor cat that is denied a good loving home fit for a king, but instead must remain incarcerated under who knows what conditions and how much attention he receives. VERY SAD!
