A surprisingly excellent upscale restaurant in New Orleans. The octopus and the fish were just excellent. The shrimp contra was reordered twice! The carne asada and the rest of the food we ordered was also excellent and so we're the drinks. Ambience is cozy modern and the service was impeccable!

There are many incredible, mind blowing, and life changing places to eat in New Orleans. Acamaya is without a doubt, one of them. This isn't the kind of food you'd find at a national chain. You are not getting massive plates of food that leave you unable to safely walk. Acamaya is the kind of place where you get the cocktail, you order multiple things, and you essentially end up creating your own multi-course dining experience. My girl and I love to order as many small plates as we can when we visit for the first time. We like to get the essence of the restaurant, and try as many things as we can, so we don't end up judging a place based on two dishes. If we end up enjoying the place, we typically return and complete the menu, and find our favorite things along the way. I recommend you order as many dishes as your party can handle, and share, SHARE DAMN YOU! We had a lot of items, and let me just say, they season the food. There isn't a bland thing. It's not over salted, but there is salt, so if you're sensitive to it, you might want to watch out for the Flounder (which was unbelievably terrific!). The beans will seem bland in comparison to other dishes, but if you get them early, they're beautiful, and even better when paired with the tortilla. This is the place that will be added to the "friends are visiting" recommendation list. Acamaya would fit in any of the food capitals of the world, fortunately for me, it lives in the city that I do.

Look this place is good, REALLY GOOD! If you don't believe me just go ask Esquire, The New York Times, Eater, Gordon Ramsay, the list goes on and on folks! So let's just give Ana, Lydia and the whole Acamaya team their well deserved crowns! My favorites:Shrimp CostraPulpo/OctopusBoth of the Tostadas

Anything you order will be delicious so go with a group to share lots of plates. Don't skip dessert. Our table said it was the best flan we have had. My personal favorites were the flautas, crab sope, octopus, and flounder. Staff were very friendly and brought each course out with appropriate timing. Highly recommend a reservation.

I was very excited to try this place due to all the hype surrounding it. It was #1 new restaurant on Eater Nola. For my wife and I, it was a let down. Not that the food wasn't edible, it was just nothing special. We tried 4 different items and the only one that we felt was something we couldn't either cook ourselves or not get anywhere else was the octopus, and even it was just ok. My wife did however enjoy her $18 cocktail, if you are in to that sort of thing. Our bill was $170 with tip and she had one cocktail and I had one mocktail, for us it's just too expensive for what it is. And we are not cheap by any means, just not worth the hype in our opinion. The space is decorated quite nice however, I'll give them that!

I visited Acamaya with a group of 6 over the weekend to celebrate my brother's bday. The space is beautiful and dimly lit for a romantic feel. We were about 5 minutes behind our reservation and had no issues being seated when we arrived. Our waitress who's name I don't remember was neither pleasant nor unpleasant but she was patient and attentive. I know that waiting on a large table could be cumbersome but she did it without flinching. My brother is the type to order everything on the menu so that's basically what he did. We tried the octopus, aguachile, the hamachi & tuna tostadas, the oysters, charred okra, heirloom tomato salad, crab claws, sunburst trout, carne asada, chochoyotes, shrimp costra and tres leches for dessert. My favorites include the oysters which were very fresh, the heirloom tomatoes which had an amazing flavor, octopus which was perfectly charred, perfectly cooked carne asada and the chochoyotes...the flavors were unique and took us on a journey through Mexico City. Bro also ordered a bottle of sparkling Rosè and most everyone ordered a cocktail as well. I do think the pricing is unnecessary considering that even though all together dinner was well over $600 some of us were still a bit hungry.

If Ana Castro has a million fans, I'm one of them. If Ana Castro has 5 fans, I'm one of them. If Ana Castro has 1 fan, that one is me. If Ana Castro has no fans, I'm no longer alive. If the world is against Ana Castro I'm againstthe entire world. Till my last breath, I'l support Ana Castro.Chef of former Lengua Madre does it again! Every dish we ordered was so perfectly curated and beautiful. The servers went above and beyond for us! As expected, the space had great vibes. This might be a contender for my new favorite restaurant. We had 5 people at our table and we ordered about 8 dishes to share along with dessert and it was a perfect amount of food. If you're looking for Mexican food that isn't just tacos and fajitas, you're in for a treat.

I ate at Acamaya last night and given it was a Friday night it was pretty crowded and as the evening wore on it got very noisy. Like difficult to hear the convo amongst my tablemates noisy. Our server was great (unfortunately I cannot remember his name) and very knowledgeable of the menu. We had a party of four and ordered 11 dishes and 2 desserts. I really enjoyed the ceviche, crab sobe, shrimp costra, chochoyotes and hamachi tostada. They were all small plates that the 4 of us shared and enjoyed. Reviews were mixed on the larger plates. We had the "veracruz" style flounder which everyone in the party found overly salted and actually sent back. I was disappointed because that was the dish I was most looking forward to trying. There was also arroz negro which was a rice with squid ink and mussels. I did not care it but others in the party enjoyed it. I found the flavors lacking in the rice after trying so many other flavorful dishes. We completed the meal with the vanilla soft serve with chicory caramel and the masa tres leches for dessert. I really enjoyed the vanilla soft serve, the caramel was sweet, salty and perfect topping for the ice cream. I didn't care for the tres leches but I dont typically enjoy tres leches cake however my friend who loves tres leches thought it was great so definitely give it a try if that's your thing. All in all I enjoyed 8-9 of the 11 dishes we ordered so I'd say that's a win. I do find it to be quite pricey for the quantity of food received, so while I would return it would not first on my list.

Amazing ambiance and service with a great cocktail menu. The dishes are artfully presented and plated. The actual flavors I experienced on the food were lackluster, lacking seasoning and mostly devoid of any excitement. It's kinda surprising.

Mexican food is my very favorite cuisine! The atmosphere , service, and food were all wonderful- but was it worth 250.00? I think a 250.00 meal needs to be remembered for more than 1 night...I don't remember what I ate- however I do recall the servers and glassware. Would love to say 5 - but that requires a memorable flavor burst.
