I split my time between Nashville and New York. The New York Times wrote about Edessa in their top restaurants of 2024 article as well as their top restaurants in Nashville article. It's a humble place, not quite a hole in the wall, with basic booths and tables. Everyone is welcoming and nice. No wait, no line, no reservation needed.Primarily a Turkish spot. Edessa is named after a city in ancient Mesopotamia. We had:Ezme (Turkish salsa) for 8.95: fresh tomatoes, bell peppers, green peppers, red onions, parsley, garlic, olive oil, walnuts, lemon juice, pomegranate molasses, and Anatolian spices. I feel like I tasted olives in there as well (which I hate)--but even if there were olives in there, this was a nice tasting dish, very savory, full of spice and flavor, went great with pita bread.Falafel: fried patties made of chickpeas, parsley, cilantro, onions, and spices. Not the very best falafel we've ever had (we've eaten a lot of falafel, especially in New York), but its great falafel. Cornish chicken for 17.95: chargrilled skewer of whole Cornish chicken in special sauce. My husband loved the flavor, and we should have known, but failed to realize . . . this dish is served with the bones intact. We would opt for the kebab next time.Mixed grill kabobs: I ordered this after the server recommended it. She said to order it if you like it "spicy." I love spicy food and flavorful food, and I know the difference between spicy and hot. This had good flavor, but I would not call it spicy. This was a combo of chargrilled lamb shish, chicken, Adana kabob, and lamb chop. The chicken was as expected, but no issues there. Quick primer: Adana kebab is spiced lamb or beef mixture formed into a log shape. Shish can be any type of meat, but this one was lamb, grilled over an open flame. Edessa baklava 9.95: Dry apricot, raisin, walnut, figs, fresh apple wrapped in phyllo dough, topped with ice cream and pistachios and served with orange sauce. Light, flaky, decadent. Tons of options, from shakshuka, kofte, boregi (cheese rolls), cabbage rolls, various salads, multiple types of kabobs (lamb, beef, chicken). This place honestly serves lamb a hundred different ways, all with different textures and flavor profiles. They have less common dishes, like Turkish dumplings, lamb liver kabobs, multiple iterations of eggplant, hummuses/dips. They also have their version of Turkish pizza (a more elevated version, the pide). They have seafood (salmon, shrimp branzini). They have a few things for those not inclined toward the more complex dishes . . . burgers, chicken tenders, pasta, basic veggies.Overall, great spot, good service (though they forgot our lavash and we had to be refunded at the end--highly recommend lavash--light, hot, airy, delightful).I wish them success, but hope the New York Times doesn't bring influencers in to sully the vibe.PS: I know I switched interchangeably between kebab and kabob. The are interchangeable and both are correct.

This place is really good! I ordered it on ubereats for the first time and I was blown away. You get a large portion of high quality food relative to the price. I do prefer their kabob dishes more than their Cornish hen platter although it's just a preference! The side salad and pepper elevate the dish.I will definitely be back again (:

As we drove through Nashville, we searched for something other than bbq, soul food or fried chicken. We stumbled upon this spot for a brief but pleasant and delightful culinary journey, where the service is as warm and welcoming as a Turkish tea on a chilly day. The staff makes you feel like family--if your family was really good at bringing you delicious food and constantly checking if you're okay! Now, I went in with high hopes of sinking my teeth into some lamb liver cubes, only to find out they were all out. But don't worry, my liver-loving friends, because their marinated chicken swooped in to save the day! Juicy, tender, and packed with flavor, it was the superhero dish I didn't know I needed. The falafel? Absolutely fantastic! Each bite was bursting with flavor--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. It's like they took a little piece of falafel heaven and dropped it right onto my plate. Then there was the spinach Burek. Now, don't get me wrong, I love a good Burek as much as the next person, but this one was a bit too enthusiastic with the oil. Let's just say it was well-lubricated for its journey from the kitchen to my stomach. Flavor-wise, it was okay, but my napkin and I had a little too much bonding time soaking up the excess. In short, Edessa is a great spot for those looking for delicious food with a side of excellent service. Just be ready for a bit of an oily surprise if you order the Burek--and don't forget to ask if they have the lamb liver cubes before you get too excited!

Edessa offers great food and service. The restaurant has integrated Turkish decor. We ordered for a kabab platter with saffron rice and an appetizer. The food was quite good, starting with the flaky phyllo pastry appetizer. The chicken and lamb shank were quite quite succulent and delicious but the lamb kabab was overcooked hence it tasted like a piece of cardboard. The hero was surprisingly the saffron rice which was an aromatic and fluffy rice, with very simple flavors from saffron that complemented the kabab, pickles and tzatziki.

Amazing find! Excellent middle eastern food close to downtown Nashville. While the ambiance is not cheerful and rather modest, the service is 5 stars!! They are attentive, polite, prompt - just like in Turkey. The food was excellent, very authentic and reasonably priced for the portion size. Definitely coming back.
