Been here twice now with my family and we've enjoyed both times. Service can be a bit slow and waitresses can get distracted unless you flag them down but I feel this is quite typical of any classic Chinese place. Decor and ambiance is nice and they also have larger, private rooms on the side for any large dinner parties.Food comes out relatively quick. Typically will get 4 plates plus rice for 4 of us. We've tried a variety of dishes here and my absolute favorite is the cumin beef plate, which I will always get. It's probably pretty unhealthy and filled with MSG but it's so good and it's a big portion. Salted egg potato strips is also quite interesting and is good for those who enjoy salted egg dishes. I wasn't too fond of the pan seared tofu and found it to be very bland, likely due to most of the flavor getting lost in the soup. I would not get this again. It's an easy pick for dinner and I'd come back and try more dishes. Parking is right outside but can get busy around dinner so you may have to do a few circles before finding a spot.

A very happy Hunan kitchen indeed! Clean and hip spot on the outskirts of Boston College right next to Cleveland Circle stop. We came in as a party of 2 on a Friday evening and didn't have to wait - we must have come early enough because the place was packed as we left the door.We ordered a stir fried beef with pepper dish and a fish dish in a pickled, sour-like soup. Both delicious, wonderfully spicy, very Hunan. Definitely order a bowl of rice if you get something spicy, helps cut the grease and pace the eating experience. The price is fair, and their portions are generous. The only other place I feel competes with this level of authentic Hunan cuisine is Sumiao in Kendall (which has smaller portions and is more expensive).tldr; great spot for your Hunan fix or if you're craving (authentic) spicy Chinese

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Boston and frequently come here for dinner. Have tried a lot of items from the menu and have liked everything! Highly recommend the stewed tofu with salted egg yolk, the cold noodles, and the lamb! Ambience is quite nice, very clean and decorated well.

Nice and simple decor. Servers were nice but not as attentive and oblivious at times when customers came through the door as they were still talking to each other. Maybe they could use a ringer on the door, a glass wall, or just walk around to be more aware of the surroundings. The main dish came first before apps, no biggie. Sweet and spicy fried chicken was good with fried onion and garlic pieces. Didn't realize any sweetness, but it was not needed for my tastebuds since it was still tasty. Steamed chicken with chili was good but thought it might of been white meat or had some white meat, not all dark meat. Sticky rice and mushrooms shumai didn't have much mushroom flavor and had pork. Did not know it did have pork since it wasn't listed in the menu and that is an important main ingredient to list since some people don't eat pork (like me) and would not have ordered it if I knew that it did contain pork. Asked the server to confirm there was pork in the shumai and asked me if I don't eat pork. Told her I don't and suggested maybe it should be listed as an ingredient in the menu. She said she would let someone know and that was it.

Good ambiance and definitely authentic Hunan cuisine. I can eat a little spicy but some dishes can be quite intense. The team was very accommodating and didn't pressure us even though we were the few tables left while they closed. I would go again and try their other dishes.

By far the best Chinese restaurant in and around Boston! I was giving up on the Boston food scene until I found this gem during my last week in the city. Brought my Chinese parents who came to visit from Canada and everyone loved it.My favorite dish was the mouth-watering chicken. So tender, juicy and flavorful. But careful, it's pretty spicy (like must Hunan food)! The pumpkin cakes are great too. The pig feet meeeelts in your mouth. The stir fry pea shoots could have used more garlic, but was still fresh and enjoyable. The price is reasonable for Boston standards and the portions are big. The atmosphere and decorations are great. Service is fast. I will definitely return on my next visit to Boston.

I thought the food here was okay. I got the spicy beef stir fry and it needed to be more spicy and savory. I had to ask for extra chili and soy sauce because it was lacking in flavor. I really liked the sizzling calamari dish with the rice. again, it needs a little more salty flavor-------------------My Star Rating Scale:5 Stars: Blew my mind, had a wow factor, will come back4 Stars: I liked it but didn't love it, no wow factor, will still come back3 Stars: It was okay, I didn't hate it but didn't like it either; would not voluntarily come back2 Stars: I did not like it, I would not come back1 Star: Absolutely hated it, I would not come back here

Brought our clients here and we had essentially the same dishes we enjoyed from the previous experiences and they enjoyed just as much, from the pork belly and baked shrimp to the eggplant with century egg.A few other dishes we ordered this time were the stinky tofu (which I guess needed more stinkiness?), salivating chicken (literal Chinese translation, not too certain about the actual euphemism) which was very tender with lots of chilis, and the xiao long baos, which were very savory and pleasing from its not-too-thick, not-too-thin skin and its proportions as a one-biter. This is something they started offering more recently and you need to get at least one if not more!Very consistent execution in their dishes and professional in their service.

You can tell the food was microwaved and not really cooked because the middle of the food is still cold. You can also tell that some food items, such as their ribs, have been reheated multiple times, as the outskirts of the meat are extremely dry, and the color looks vastly different from different pieces. When we kindly raised the issue, the waitress was very rude to us and didn't even want to respond.I used to like this restaurant, even tho it is on the pricy side. but this latest experience definitely make us change our mind.
